I love that this place is open super late! I was in the area and it was almost 9 o'clock and I saw that they were open so I decided to go in and see what they were about cause I knew that they probably would have Vegan friendly options which they did. I was the only customer in there was just fine. The staff seemed a little bit confused so I was confused if they were even actually open or not, but they were. it didn't take long to get my food, but I was a little disappointed that I didn't get rice and I asked about it and the lady taking my order seems confused. I do love this type of food. I never really had a Pakistani food but I've heard it's close to Indian food so I was down to try overall was really good very spicy. I can't remember exactly what I had. But it was good. It was a big portion and I was able to eat it. In about three servings. I will try it again but maybe at a different time read more

I would love to see this restaurant stop serving tea in styrofoam cups and educate the client base to stop loitering the area. The clybourn/Larrabee interaction was just cleaned up a volunteer cleanup org and now it's trashed with cups, empty bottles and cans thrown by the clients that frequent this restaurant. There are no other restaurants nearby and I have seen it with my own eyes. Please respect my neighborhood I live in the block and of south Asian origin. Food is decent but getting pricey. This place is okay to grab some large Indian dishes. I say okay because within the last year it seems the menu/ownership has changed and the staple dishes taste different. It's hard to get in touch with them over the phone as I've tried in the past and it was ringing every 5 minutes with no one answer while we dined here. Great food and personal service. We had vegetarian fair in a predominantly meaty place but were pleasantly surprised at the quality and quality of the servings. A bit disappointed with the ambience though. The constant chanting of religious scriptures was loud and a bit jarring, honestly but the food made up for it. read more

I was in Chicago recently for a meeting. Had a super late arrival due to flight issues. Landed up ordering from here only because this was the closet to where i was staying - and i am so glad i did!! Was late so they didn't have one of the items but the Mutton Biryani was insane!! The portion size was super large for 1 person and the taste was incredible!! I'm craving good Pakistani food, don't want to go all the way to Devon and Yelp points me to New Zaika grill. I was in no way expecting a sit down, well decorated, "let me bring my friends here for dinner one day" kind of a restaurant but I was expecting to not be the only woman there. The staff was really nice about it though and didn't make me feel awkward. Although I'm pretty sure I received better customer service than everyone else. I went on a Friday around lunch which one of their busiest times. Within minutes of my arrival the place was flooded with people coming from prayer and it became extremely obvious that this place is really meant for cab drivers needing to take a lunch break. The food was amazing and fresh. The biryani was my favorite and the seekh kabobs were pretty good too. The naan was cooked to perfection! I'd probably order to go next time or stop in when it's less crowded. I've started to crave the biryani! This is a great restaurant but likely not for everybody. This seems to be a bit of a cabbie haunt in a part of the city that is a bit faded and industrial. The food is excellent and the owner/staff are very friendly. Lincoln Park South needs more places like this. Enjoy. read more

I have been going to this place for about over 6 months now. Almost every alternate night, being from Pakistan, this is the most authentic Pakistani food I have had in US by far, even better than Devon. The good thing is the variety on display, especially for a meat lover like me, and it's all zabiha halal. They have different specials everyday, so there is no monotony there. From nihari (a beef curry dish) to biryani (rice with chicken and some amazing spices) to karhi (you have to eat it to know what it is) to daal (lentils), the food here is just awesome. The only reason I give it a 4 stars is the location and the environment, it has kind of a dhabba vibe to the place that is its predominantly for guys like taxi drivers etc, rarely would you see a girl (I have only seen a woman once) or a family. That said though, if you let them know ahead of time, they might create a small segregation using curtains if you are bringing your family, I have seen that happen too once. The food is cheap, a full serving is only for 9 or 10 bucks, and they have some a la carte dishes you can order too, mostly bar be que. If you do end up going there, I would suggest you eat either the frontier chicken the first time up, with Naan, or their mutton dish of the day, with chapati. I am sure you'll get hooked the same way I am, and parking is 99% of the time no trouble. read more

I was walking around last night looking for Tabaq and ran across this place first. Thinking it was Tabaq I went in. (Tabaq is on the same block.) The food set up is similar to Tabaq but the quality is not quite as high. The nan wasn't as fresh, and the little salad was kind of limp (to be fair, it was about 10 pm so it had probably been salad since that morning). I had a fried fish fillet and a bowl of yellow lentil daal. The daal was real good but the fish had clearly been frozen and then thawed quickly, probably in running water. You know that tough, dense texture you get with a thin white fleshed fillet when you do that? Bingo. It really resisted the fork at times and no knife was supplied. The flavor was nice, battered lightly in flour and probably fried with a bit of ghee in the oil but definitely not fried in all ghee. I finally found Tabaq tonight and it is so much better so I doubt I'll go back to this place. I should add that the man who helped me order was super nice and came to check on me a couple of times. He helped translate for me with the other guy behind the counter as well. I felt like he was more than helpful. I sensed a kindness in him so I wish the food was good enough for me to go back and visit him again. Kind man, one of these stars is for you. read more
