My chicken and waffles were the best I have ever had! Huge portions and the potatoes were amazing. We had the mimosa flight and while I do enjoy a do it yourself for somethings, I would have preferred our flight prepared instead of us doing it ourselves. I know we probably would get more mimosas out of how they did it, but there was only two of us and a bottle of champagne and 4 kinds of juice to mix up! My first impression was not great, as we walked in the front door we were met with trash and cigarette butts that had blown into the restaurant, we were seated at a table that had been cleaned but was still sticky with syrup from the previous guests. Still, we had heard good things and wanted to give this place a chance. My husband ordered the chicken and waffles and I had an order of Ludabiscuits. He did not care for the chicken and waffles, he said the chicken was overcooked and not very good. I thought the biscuits and gravy were okay but just okay. There is nothing about this place we don't like! Great creative food, fun atmosphere and friendly servers. They even have tasty, real condiments like real butter, cream, actual sugar, plus Sriracha and hot pepper sauce. I love the coffee too, and it is served in large mugs. This was a unique visit. We had good food and service. The restaurant was a really fun. They had cute names for all the meals and the had painted walls everywhere left me with a hipster feel. It wasn't over done for the rents either. It was just a fun experience. The only complaint I had was I didn't find a hearty breakfast that I would normally get with lots of meat and eggs. I don't know how this place has 4 star reviews. People of the Des Moines metro, we need to talk about training your palate and what good service means. To be honest, I would give this place 2.5 stars if I could, but not 3. This restaurant had a lot of controversy due to its previous name, but even so I decided to give it a try given that they decided (rightly so) to change it for something better. The décor is cute, an homage to hip hop artists and graffiti street style, and the music is good too. It's "West Des Moines hip-hop" style, and I was expecting a bit more edge. But it's fine. I came for brunch with some friends who usually rely on my taste for picking out good places in Des Moines, so I was a little embarrassed by proxy during this experience. The coffee was awful. My friends said it's because of the WDM water, but I don't know. It was really bad. Then we ordered, I had the Southern Hospitality, my friends had toast & fruit and one had whatever dish has the plantain fritter. My omelette and "seasoned" potatoes were fine. It's something I could have gotten at IHOP or Perkins, and the potatoes had zero flavor. Mediocre, at best. I tried a bit of the plantain fritter and that was actually good. Sweet, well-prepared, cheesy and inventive for a breakfast dish. That was a pleasant surprise, so if you do come to this spot, I recommend that. The service was OK but the food took extremely long and I think the servers were overwhelmed. Understaffed, but I think this is a trend in the metro. I'm probably not coming back. Visited Eggs &Jam with my daughter to start our shopping day off right. Getting out of our car you can instantly hear the old school hip hop coming from the restaurant which was awesome. You walk in and are greeted with some fun bright graffiti on the walls with the faces of some legendary hip hop artists from the 90s. We were seated and given some menus which at first glance look pretty sweet but don't look too close cause they are gross sticky with dried food all over. Our waitress instantly took our drink orders which I love some hot tea with equal and was sad to see they do not have equal. We asked our server for a few minutes to look over menu and it took her almost 15 minutes to come back to get our order. She was just not a personable person our entire visit. I ordered the Informer and my daughter ordered eggs, toast and pancake. Both our meals were delicious especially the raspberry mango jam that stuff was to die for. Thus being said, while Americana has taken the cake for brunch in the DSM area, there has been few places in between that can compete-- until Eggs and Jam! I had a terrible service at eggs and jam. I asked about a gluten-free menu... Which they did not have. The waitress told me the breakfast tacos were gluten-free... When they arrived at my table they were flour tacos shells. Which are full of gluten. I was unable to eat my breakfast and let the waitress know. She proceeded to charge me for the breakfast anyways. The only thing that was decent was the bloody Mary that had a piece of bacon in it. I do not recommend this restaurant. read more

I've checked out reviews for this place online and was kind of concerned going in. However, they seemed to have worked out whatever kinks were there because this place has the best breakfast. I had an omelette with veggies and it was very good...and huge. I had seasoned potatoes on the side, very good as well. My friend ordered their breakfast burrito and it was very large and looked amazing. She said it was fantastic. Had this cheese sauce on top too. She also had a side of toast so we could try their jams. Those jams are sooooo good. The decor is funky. I love it. I grew up in the 90's so I dig it. I was very excited to try this new breakfast joint out, but was fairly disappointed about my experience. The idea of the restaurant is great, but the service could use some improvement. Also, it is a bit pricy. If you're not looking to spend more than $10 on a breakfast meal I wouldn't suggest this place. I understand it just opened up and it gets busy, but my boyfriend and I waited about 45 min until our food came out. We sat outside to avoid the wait of being seated inside. We started out with ordering an appetizer first, the "All Fries On Me" which was absolutely delicious. The gravy was amazing and the egg cooked just perfectly however it seemed as if our fries had been sitting out for a while because when we ate them they were a little cold. That dish alone took about 30min to get. We then waited about an additional 45 min to get our main dish. Even the manager had to come out and apologize for the wait of our food and gave us 25% off our ticket for compensation. I would've felt better though if they explained to us why our food was taking so long. When we got our food it was pretty average. I ordered the "Mimosa Chicken and Waffles" and my boyfriend ordered the "Southern Hospitality." The fried chicken was really juicy and flavorful. Probably my favorite thing I ate there. On the other hand, the Southern Hospitality had meat that tasted like Taco Bell meat. It wasn't worth finishing. All in all, we took a total of about 5min to finish our dishes because at this point we were so fed up and tired of waiting we couldn't even enjoy our meals anymore. I wish I could've had a better experience and maybe I would've enjoyed the food more because the idea of the restaurant isn't too bad. read more
