There's a mural full of artists that were prominent in the 90s (and still today really), that was probably my favorite. This is the perfect spot for a breakfast, brunch, meet up with friends situation. There's plenty of seating inside (a bar too) and a good amount of seating outside. Customer service- Great! From the time I walked in until I left everyone was very kind and attentive. Food/drinks- I got a raspberry mimosa to drink, it was the bomb! Would not have expected the atmosphere to be so immersive when looking at it from the outside. Came here on a Sunday morning and it was fairly busy. We had a 40min wait but got in within 30 minutes. There isn't a waiting room, so you have to wait outside where you can hear them call for you. All the walls are covered in graffiti and they have a fantastic hip hop playlist. Their menu and drink menu have hip hop references which is hilarious. Indoor and patio seating are available, you can also be seated at the bar. I ordered the P Diddy, added some hot sauce on top. It definitely kicked my biscuits and gravy craving. It was savory and decently priced. Our server was friendly and helpful when we told her we've never been to Eggs and Jam before. Our first visit was a packed house and the wait outside was long. Our second visit was no wait. I tried the Mimosa Chicken & Waffle the first time around. Today, I found my own personal HEAVEN on earth! Eggs and Jam was everything I hoped for and more! Breakfast being my favorite meal, I knew I was going to have to try more than one entrée. So a friend and I each ordered an entrée and split them down the middle. We had so much food we had to bring part of it home. Let's start with the drinks. I had iced coffee with almond milk and was thrilled when I noticed that the ice cubes were coffee ice cubes! Love at first sip! Then we tried the hibiscus mimosa. While I adored the mimosa, I wasn't a fan of the vodka in it, but have no fear, that is a personal preference rather than an actual review of the taste. Next, the food! Breakfast potatoes of my dreams accompanied the Slamwich. Potatoes were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The slamwich is a egg sandwich made with a waffle that had the right amount of sweetness. Texture wise, it was crisp and form on the outside with the pillowy softness inside that seriously is the stuff breakfast dreams are made of. My friend and I also shared the P. Diddy and it was amazing as well. The manager was our server and she was incredible! Extremely personable and made us feel like we were long lost friends! She made the experience all around! Go here! I don't get the hype. I have heard so many good things about this place and when I finally was able to try it for myself, I was disappointed. Maybe it was a one off experience, but when I later checked the lower reviews, I quickly learned that no, it's not just me. When we arrived, no one acknowledged us. I saw people standing around, doing nothing until finally, 1 guy slowly walks up to us to seat us. It was like they had this silent wait it out among themselves to come and seat us. We ate outside as the indoors felt too cold. Our service was ok. Initially very good and then, per him, they got busy inside. Uh...ok...? We decided to try the chicken and waffles and it came out surprisingly quickly. The chicken looked beautifully fried, but as we learn in life, looks can be deceiving. It was SO bland! Not seasoned one bit. Simple salt and pepper would have helped. We both kept trying bites to think, maybe it will appear. Nope, but what appeared for me was some oddly colored meat in places. Our server told us it was boneless breast. Another server told us it was dark meat (ummmmm at least dark meat would have had some flavor). Either way, I wasn't risking it. The waffle was soggy (not crispy at all as a waffle should be). When asked how everything was, I quietly told them the chicken was not good. They offered to redo it, but we declined. I didn't have high hopes and had other places to be. They did take it off the bill, which is why 2 stars. We didn't request it or make a big deal of our disappointment during our visit. We appreciated that gesture. Before leaving, we used the restroom and about slid our way across the greasy and dirty tiled floor that covers the interior part of the restaurant. The inside was dark and dismal, like an unfriendly bar. This surprised me as they are only open during daylight hours (not even dinner) I expected fun and vibrant from what I had heard about the place. It would have been cool if they had actual graffiti on the walls instead of weird spray painted murals and such. The bathrooms didn't look like they had been cleaned in months. Going against popular reviews, I would say this was a flip, flap, flop of an experience. Was the music good? Yes, but that's not a reason to come here. The only other reason I may visit this place again is if I was in the area (unlikely) and craving a mimosa, which I would only drink in their outdoor patio. They have rotating flavors and this weekend was pistachio drizzle, whip, & pistachio nuts garnish. She said it was delish! Had the Rumpshaker breakfast burrito in the past visits. Rotating fill so the couple times I've had it were great. VERY large burrito cut in half- I have only been able to finish one side and then took home left overs. Left overs always tasted awesome! (Always a good sign of great food!) This visit I got here right before 7:00am. There were many cars parked and waiting. Restaurant opened right on time. Service was wonderful and prompt. We didn't wait long for food. The restaurant is run very well. Our server says Saturdays and Sundays are the busiest and sometimes a 30- 60 min wait for breakfast on the weekends! WOW - Word has gotten out that Eggs and Jam is the new place to be for weekend breakfast and brunch! Awesome interior design - brings back the 90's. Spray painted graffiti walls with a mural of famous artists on one wall. Their merchandise is displayed on another to encourage patrons to represent their brand. Eggs and Jam pumps old school rap early in the morning so expect a hip hop vibe right when you come in. But the ambiance is definitely a cool and hip place to dine. I knew this was a breakfast place that existed...what I did NOT know was that its schtick is hip hop. When my fellow hip hop head friend suggested it I was super down! Wutang is for the children! The waitresses were all cute girls, super friendly and accommodating. I ordered the Toastface Killah (okay okay so there's some killah bee in the menu) and it was amazing. French Toast with fresh raspberries, raspberry whipped cream and Chambord syrup, yes please! I also had coffee with several refills and it was all perfect. All of the menu items have clever, hip-hop portmanteau type names, which I love because free chuckles. They've got something for every breakfast taste, lunch items, and vegan / vegetarian stuff too. The only thing a little odd about this spot is the location. I could see this place fitting in better downtown. It's tucked back away in West Des Moines in a little strip. This was a great find leaving the airport. I was a bit skeptical because there was no one in the parking lot, but I'm happy I have it a try. I fell in love with the decorations the second I laid my eyes on the art on the walls. It's filled with graffiti, murals, and portraits. Ask for Alice!!!!!! She was with us from the beginning of the experience to the very end. Definitely the type of server I want at a restaurant, especially a new place. She took her time explaining and offering suggestions to us. We were still at the table past closing time, and they didn't rush us to finish. They cracked jokes with us and made us feel welcome. I'll start my review by saying the only reason I removed a star was because of the wait - be prepared to wait, at least on the weekends. I'm not sure what the wait is like during the week. We waited 90 minutes which we expected since we visited in a Sunday for brunch. They do offer coffee during your wait. Once we were seated, everything is 5-star. The staff as so helpful and friendly. The menu is short, but has variety and substitutions are available upon request. The menu is also vegan-friendly. I'm not vegan, but if I was, these menu options would be tasty. I saw the vegan pancakes served to a table nearby, and my eyes had hearts in them! I ordered a Bloody Mary, it was very good. It was smooth with not too much alcohol for a morning beverage. Our table had the following items; Fhat Stacks, P. Diddy and a sandwich I can remember the name of. The Fhat Stacks were the showstopper here! So fluffy, so tasty. Even without syrup. If you order the Fhat Stacks, make sure to bring your appetite, and maybe a friend to share with. There are 4 giant pancakes served with the order. I sadly left 2 behind because I ran out of stomach space. The atmosphere of the restaurant is fun and upbeat. V fun, and I would recommend brunch here! It was ok but just potatoes. 2nd time I tried the Vegan Superstar and had to be the worst pancakes I've ever had. Loved the dipping sauce though. We both chose the breakfast potatoes. They were good but dry. One of our soda refills came back with something different than what we originally ordered.
