I've stayed with EHS for two years in the past, and am currently a returning student. I've been a college student in NYC for seven years now, and I've stayed in five dormitories across Manhattan and Brooklyn - two of which were the separate sides of the St. George Residences run by EHS in Brooklyn Heights. I have to say that from a cross-examining viewpoint of the various dorm options in New York, EHS really does do the best work I've seen. 1) The EHS staff is the friendliest and most supportive of any dormitory I have stayed in or interacted with. They are very understanding of the challenges that students face finding housing in New York, as well as having to play middle-men between their respective schools and the dorm when it comes to loan disbursements. As long as a student is vocal and truthful about their needs and constraints, EHS has been and continues to be willing to work with its residents. 2) The room sizes are honestly average to above average for every other dorm I've seen. The fact that the furniture within the space is designed to be storage-friendly makes conserving space much easier and hassle free, and if there are any issues with broken anything, a maintenance crew shows up within 48 hours to correct any problems - who are also nice people. A complimentary TV with cable and a full-size fridge are just icing on the cake! 3) The price is also comparable to most every other dorm in New York. Dorms as a standard will always be more expensive than some apartments, but EHS' price range is still well within the normal range for a dorming experience anywhere else. On top of that, EHS is constantly reinvesting its earnings back into the residence, and therefore back to its residents. Since the last time I stayed here, they completely redesigned one of the entrances and all of the ground floor to include multiple quiet study and study group areas, a large communal kitchen / lounge and a film screening room, plus iPads in the large communal lounge for quick access to internet for the student in a hurry. At the end of the day, EHS cares so much more about the satisfaction of its students than any other dorm I've stayed at, and that means a lot to someone who's seen some of the worst dorms New York has to offer. They work as hard to help the students as the students work at their studies, and this fosters a much more positive, progressive atmosphere in the community than anywhere else I've been, where nightly drug and alcohol binges are a regularity. I have to give EHS five stars for their efforts, and I have confidence that they will only continue to get better with time. read more

First off let me just say that some of these reviews are way outdated. EHS has made renovations and improvements by leaps and bounds within the past few years. ANY one of the residences are available for a tour daily, so you can decide for yourself and see the AMAZING accommodations that EHS offer. I have lived with EHS for over a year in the 1760 3rd ave. residence. From the moment that you check in, the friendly EHS staff makes you feel right at home. The building is beautiful, it's newly furnished and the rooms are very spacious! I have been in other college dorms when visiting friends, and their rooms are painted cinderblock walls. The rooms at EHS have flat screen TV's with cable, high speed internet, full size refrigerators and microwaves, beautiful bathrooms with marble tiling and sinks, and huge windows. The furniture is all brand new, accommodating and beautiful You simply can't find better student housing; living here is like living in my own apartment. The resident advisors who work in the office are great and they have always been kind and helpful whenever I needed them. When I was new to the city I wasn't sure about many things but the student life staff always helped me out. They also have events going on in the building all of them time. Sometimes we have cool parties in the building and other times we take group trips to awesome places like Broadway, Cooney Island and the Statue of Liberty. There are also plenty of welcome events so you can meet your neighbors and make new friends from day one. If you need housing in NYC while studying make sure you check out EHS. If you call the offices you can even set up a tour and take a look for yourself. read more

I cannot express how amazing my time living with EHS has been. As a girl from a small town in South Carolina who has never been more than an hour away from her family, I was extremely anxious about moving to the city. EHS made the transition so smooth and the entire housing staff has been so helpful and kind during my summer here. Although I could go on and on about EHS, here are some of the biggest advantages from my perspective: 1. As I said, the staff here are always willing to help and show you the best places around to eat, or how to get to the subway etc. l 2. The events! EHS makes it their mission to help students have the summer of their lives in NYC and a big part of that is exploring all New York has to offer (touristy and local). From discounted broadway tickets, to local neighborhood tours and food festivals, I have been able to truly experience the best of New York. 3. The residents! Part of why I chose to live with EHS is because most of the other residents were in the same situation as myself-new to the city, interning somewhere, and possibly hoping to move back. It made for great company as well as good connections if I ever do move back! 4. Location and safety! My parents were so worried about me moving in but with the security cards and neighborhood placement, I never felt unsafe. The St. George Towers are in an upscale neighborhood with close subway stations, restaurants, shops and the best part is you get to experience as much of Brooklyn as you do Manhattan. I am so grateful that EHS has played such a big role in helping me have an amazing summer. I definitely recommend them to other students looking to live in New York. read more

Stayed here 55 Clark St for an internship. Thankfully my company is covering the cost, otherwise I would never have stayed here. I was on the Henry St. side. There's a reason there are no photos of the dorms themselves on their website, only the nicer lounge areas. Cons - WiFi was down three nights in a row and frequently comes in and out. Tech support is unhelpful--it's likely just an outage caused by not having enough routers for the number of people there - Floors are insanely dirty/a consistent rotting smell that was discovered to be disgusting, moldy vents (maintenance fixed this though - There are only outlets on one side of the room (covered by desks/beds) - Our toilet paper holder was held together by duct tape and missing the central part (to their credit, this issue was fixed within 72 hours) - In a constant state of "renovation"--aka the building will look ugly. - Minor con, but it can get very rowdy outside considering the location Pros - The security is tough - Maintenance issues are fixed within 72 hours - Right above the 2/3 subway station/close to Dumbo I hear the Clark tower is marginally nicer than the Henry Street side tower, and I hesitate to judge any place, especially only after staying for a few days, but the conditions are downright abysmal. Don't stay here, especially for the price they charge normally. read more

I am posting this review here as well so that those unfortunate students/interns who do not look up reviews on EHS's other buildings can be properly informed. Absolutely horrible experience! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! I will start with the few pros, that are most definitely outweighed by many many cons: 1. Room comes well equipped with fridge, microwave, tv, and internet. 2. Lounge area is nice 3. Security is very tight- pictures are taken of every visitor and they need IDs. When I moved into my room, it was in a absolutely disgusting state. There was more dirt than visible floor space, candy wrappers thrown all over the floor, stains in all the appliances, and a strong odor. We immediately went down and argued for about 30 minutes before I could get assigned a new room. The staff only agreed to assign a room after we said we would complain to the Department of Health. Staff are incredibly rude and unhelpful, and the walls of the buildings themselves are PAPER THIN!!!! You can hear every word your neighbors say, even when they speak at a reasonable or low volume. FIND SOMETHING ELSE! EHS (educational housing services) is a immense rip off and not worth a dime of your money. read more

I lIved in EHS over the summer for an internship and it was fantastic! the location was amazing, I worked in the Greenwich Village area and my commute to work every day was a maximum 20 minutes. EHS is located right net to the Clark St. 2 and 3 subway station which will take you right into Manhattan. I never worried about transportation or something being too far because although it is in Brooklyn it is a pretty central location. The area of Brooklyn Heights is also super nice with lots of shopping, activities and great food located nearby. The Brooklyn bridge park only steps away from the residence and is a beautiful spot to explore. The facilities are also great. The rooms were spacious and everyone gets their own bathroom. The staff is very attentive and the lobby area has study rooms, a movie room, and a various hangout spaces. There is also a gym located right next door that every resident can use for free. Overall I really enjoyed my time at the EHS St. George Tower Residence and it made it easier to call NYC home for the Summer! read more

I moved into EHS at the end of May and have had a great experience. The room came fully equpped with a flat screen tv, furniture, a bathroom, microwave and refrigerator. I also have access to an awesome gym (not that I have time to go alot). When I had an issue with something, the staff was friendly and helped me resolve my issue within a couple of hours. I don't get to attend many of the events because my schedule is so busy but I do appreciate that they have them for us. I know the price is kind of high but when you consider that you are not paying a first and last months rent, or furniture, or electricity, internet, cable AND a gym membership! Not to mention that it has security! I would definitely recommend EHS to anyone who is new to the city. Its a good way to get your barings before you get your own apartment! I move out in August and I have to no idea where I am going to live but I am guessing it wont be as nice as EHS.... read more

Do your research I am not going to go on how there are cockroaches in our rooms, guest have to be signed in by 9:00 pm, or how the vents do not work in the shower and cause mold (I am pretty sure that is illegal), I could go on and on. The St. George/Clark residences in Brooklyn are terrible. I was supposed to have internet in my room, and complained when i moved in... it's been 3 weeks and still nothing. i have complained MULTIPLE times, called MULTIPLE people, and filed MULTIPLE work orders. but no. still no internet. i'm going to have to sleep at my internship because sometimes i have work to do that requires... gasp!... the internet. The rooms are pretty nasty. Our shower has a "splash guard" that is really just a bit of glass. I could stand OUTSIDE of my shower... and still take a shower. We've tried compensating by showering while pressed against the shower wall. I'm not expecting anything palatial. I just want my contract to be honored... if I'm still honoring my side of the contract and paying rent, they should be honoring their end of the contract too. read more

I lived in EHS this past summer at the 55 John Street location. I chose it for the location and because it was more affordable than other housing options. EHS was a no brainer and an easy process. Because there was no housing lottery I knew where I'd be staying months ahead of moving in. The staff was friendly and always put on fun weekly events like kayaking, seeing Shakespeare in the park, and touring the top of Freedom Tower. Even if you didn't want to participate in these activities they always had great recommendations for things to do with your friends around the city. The building had a solid gym facility with weights and treadmills, always felt safe courtesy of the security staff, was quiet at night, had adjustable A/C, and was all around everything I wanted for my summer living situation. read more

Excellent place to live! Educational Housing Services is the best place I have stayed at by a long shot! The Residence life staff is very professional, personable and active in their roles. EHS continuously reaches to residence creating incentives and programs to get the students acclimated to safe city life. The rooms are well maintained and spacious, including very nice ammenities and located near subway access routes. Currently residing at the Hotel St George location in Brooklyn; private bathrooms in the rooms and a very clean and large common kitchen. I am absolutely impressed with how well the building is maintained and the performance/availibity of the staff. Top notch! As an out of towner I also feel safe in the building. I stayed at 55 Clark St. this past summer and I had an amazing experience! The staff was so helpful in helping me move in, explore and get adjusted to the city and making me feel welcome in my new home. In addition, every day when I came home the security greeted me and made me feel so welcome! The location was next door to the Clark Street stop for the 2/3 train and it was so easy to get to Manhattan quickly! The other students that stayed at EHS also helped make my experience so positive! I became friends with so many people interested in the same field of study as me and have kept up with these new friends after my stay. I truly don't know any other place that could have given me a better or safer first experience living in NYC! read more

If I could give it 0 stars I would. Don't spend your money on this overpriced, poorly run, mess of a dorm. Staff is rude, the security person literally laughed at me when I had to get a replacement ID card, as if I didn't feel bad enough about losing my card they proceeded to make fun of me every time I came though. However the custodian staff are some of the best people you will meet. Don't get packages sent to you the mail room isn't always open and they are very unhelpful if you have a package. The rooms are terrible they are gross when you arrive and our shower started growing black mold and there is a puddle from poor construction and they won't fix it. The best advice I can give is go somewhere else!!! read more

I just moved in to EHS's 1760 third ave residence last week and can honestly say I love the place! The staff is very friendly and helpful with everything from repairs in the room to when the next outing is. They constantly plan trips and get togethers, within the building, to museums and sporting events which allow the many students from all the schools to hang out. They have a ton of laundry machines downstairs so there's never a wait and the gym has an ample amount of equipment. But the best part is that each room has their own bathroom :) so you don't have to lug everything down the hall like most dorms. They also provide a TV, fridge and microwave in each room. [Summer Housing Review] St. Geoge was probably the best choice that I made over the past summer. I enjoyed the entire experience I had while staying there. The location is unbeatable as it is conveniently located near MTA stations and great sights near the building. I met cool people in the building and they offer a lot of summer housing perks including discounted Broadway show(the best!), lots of site visits and many more. The building is very nice with a spacious communal kitchen. The only downside is that the elevator is little slow so be mindful of it when you go to work or school in the morning. You won't find any place better than St. George for the same price you would pay. Highly recommended read more

Living in EHS for the summer while interning in the city was a match made in heaven. The EHS staff was helpful at every turn, from check in to check out. The location was absolutely prime right by the Brooklyn Bridge and the options for food right in the area made meals extremely easy. The dorm style living also gave me the chance to meet other students my age and allowed me to further immerse myself in the city experience. Going into the summer, I had a lot of apprehension towards being in a big city by myself and not knowing where I was going to live. I can very confidently say that EHS's housing made my time in the city feel like home and I wouldn't trade my experience there for anything. read more

I was looking for housing in NY and my only options were renting apartments (waaay to much hussle) or staying at a friends house (not privacy at all...) when I found out about EHS and the property being in manhattan i took it! yes... my best experience, i checked in got my ID and i was up in my room in 10 min tops... they even help me to unload. staff was really friendly and helpful (i was alone so you can imagine how difficult it could have been without them!) the room was great, clean, organized, i had space for everything (i'm a girl and you know we have a lot!) and the cable! wow! even better than at home jajaja, internet in my room, wireless in the lobby. read more

Had a great experience this summer living at EHS, could not recommend this place more. The facilities were always clean, and 24/7 security at the front of the building always made sure everything was safe by checking every guest in. The laundry room was never packed as there were so many washing machine and dryer units to use, and the staff was always really helpful if there were any issues. One of the best aspects though was the location - Brooklyn Heights is one of my favorite places in New York, and the building was less than a 5 minute walk from the Brooklyn Bridge and an amazing view of the Manhattan skyline. read more

I had an amazing time this past summer at EHS. The staff there is so friendly. Anytime I needed something they were so willing to help. Also there are a lot of great resident events for students to attend. For instance, we went to the Brooklyn Botanical Garden and kayaking. That was a ton of fun. The lounge area at EHS St.George is also really great. I met a lot of new friends there. Plus using the kitchen was really convienent. I'm really going to miss staying at EHS! Check them out!
