I really enjoyed this place! Recently came here for a work lunch and we all had a blast! My one coworker said we have to come back on a Wednesday for their all-day Happy Hour; great idea! The interior is small, but inviting, and the staff are very friendly. We ordered a bunch of margaritas. The classic was solid. My one coworker remarked how he'd forgotten how good a margarita can be. We got the chorizo and queso fundido dip which was greasy, but a lot better than I'd expected! The guac was standard, (read: delicious). Even the salsa and chips were great. Mexican street tacos are legit - a few of us got them. Always a winner, the taco al pastor with its slightly sweet and smoky flavor; theirs had a strong cinnamon component, but I didn't mind it. If you're feeling adventurous, try the Carnaza (beef cheek) - it was super tender and very flavorful; I'd get it again. Even the Lengua (tongue) taco was well-done. If you're not feeling the adventure or authenticity, they also have the tex-mex classics with hard shell tacos or soft flour tortillas and chicken or beef, so there's something for everybody. Desserts - the fried ice cream just okay, as for the sopapillas. Tres leches was on point and I would totally eat there again. Nothing has changed. Actually if I could give a negative 1 star I would. This time it was a male server at the bar who continuously ignored our requests as if he had a hearing problem. However when a request was made by a Spanish female sitting f across from us he was immediately accommodating. I even made the excuse that maybe he did not speak or understand English fluently but after closely observing him it was clear that was not the issue. The parking lot is small and tight. The bathrooms had a bad odor. And the food .....from what I heard was mediocre. I only came here because I was invited but it is my goal to never frequent this establishment again. We arrived in time for happy hour. Ordered the 1/2 quesadilla, absolutely tasteless and barely any chicken or cheese. Their salsa had a strange taste for being salsa, best thing about it was it was spicy hot. Stuffed jalapeños were tasteless. Mushy, runny cheese and very bland jalapeños. The cheese, chorizo dip didn't have any chorizo in it, bland as everything else was. Ordered 3 taco platter with hard shells. Came out on soft shells. Very hard to get the servers attention. 2 other servers came by our table and tried to help but didn't understand hard shells. Finally a manager came over and we told him the problem and he sent a server to our table with 3 hard shells. Randomly stumbled upon here at odd hours. It was nice and quiet and the service was nice, I had a good waitress. I tried 1-2 Al pastor tacos with the usual side of some chopped radishes and a lime to squeeze on the tacos. While waiting the tortilla chips with the salsa was good. The salsa was tasty and authentic tasting while the tortilla chips tasted freshly made. Overall, the food was good, but I've been to better places. Salsa was so delicious that I mostly ate the salsa and chips than my actual meal. On the downside, the service was pretty slow. Just to take our orders took the staff at least 20-30 minutes before approaching our table. I wouldn't come back here again but at the time this was probably the only somewhat vegetarian friendly restaurant I found in the area. read more

Been to El Agave a couple of times and the foods has always been pretty good. There have been a couple of times where service was a little slow but not too bad. My favorite thing here so far is surprisingly the carne asada fries. The fries are fresh out the fryer and the carne asada is flavorful and delicious. They top it off with nacho cheese, onions and tomatoes. My second favorite thing here is their tres leches. It's delicious and the milk on the bottom is rich and sweet. The combos are hit or miss depending on what you like. You should check this place out if you haven't been. read more

This was my first time trying out this Mexican restaurant near my friend's house in Baltimore. They have daily specials and Mondays are fajita night. Three out of the four of us tried the fajitas. I asked the hostess which one was more popular and she suggested the steak. My meal was sizzling and delicious! They serve the homemade salsa, which was spicy and yummy, in a small tortilla bowl which was pretty cool. My friend tried the peach margarita and said it didn't taste very peachy. I stuck with Mexican beer which was good. My biggest gripe with this restaurant was they barely give you any toppings for the fajitas. It's like two teaspoons of sour cream and sprinkle of lettuce and tomatoes. They served us each two tortillas with the meal and when we asked for more we were charged for the third tortillas. It wasn't a huge cost, but because they were already chintzy with the toppings it was annoying. I would go back again but if I get the fajitas I will ask for more toppings. read more

This was very average at best. Their menu also says they use Jack Daniels BBQ sauce on some items but we were told that it changes from week to week?! We didn't want JD sauce but that seemed weird. The salsa was pretty good, but spicier than most that you get for free (but that's not a negative). The chips were just okay. The salsa is served in a tortilla bowl which is neat, but unnecessary. I got the tacos, which said they were award-winning, but I couldn't tell what for! Service was very good, so there is that! Okay dokes, so I was looking for a place close by that had Taco Tuesdays and this place was legit. They have a variety of different flavors of tacos and while I don't eat meat, I can appreciate the fact that they have carne asada, pollo asada, tongue, and carnitas - I mean it sure beats the shredded beef options!I had the mahi mahi tacos and although they weren't on special they were pretty dang good. My favorite part of the meal though was the salsa - can you say FUEGO! So delicious that is for sure! The margarita's left a bit to be desired as the sour mix was a little too generic for me - I am not a fan of the cheap sour mixes, I wish all bars would make their margaritas with triple sec, a splash of OJ and fresh lime juice but it is what it is - they do have jumbo margaritas which is awesome! The only thing that was a little frustrating what that the website and Yelp page say they are opened until 10:00 pm and when we got there at 9:10 they were already sweeping and said the kitchen closed at 9:30 so we had less than 20 minutes to order and once the food came out, they were putting chairs on tables and turning off TVs - that wasn't pleasant so for ambiance and service they get 2 stars but for food they get 4 which gives them an average of 3. Tried El Agave because we ordered food across the street, had to wait 30 minutes for our order while hungry, so... why not. I left happy. The food was fresh and piping hot. Guacamole is very good. Margaritas are delicious- house margarita on the rocks with no salt are my favorite. Contrary to my original review, where I stated "we'll likely not be back" due to the poor service and some food issues, we've been back for carryout several times recently. Surprisingly, it was at my wife's insistence, even though she had the worse experience during our first visit. Nearly all of the food has been pretty good each time, but there are still some issues with consistency of portion sizes and preparation. The chorizo queso on our most recent order came in a small, half-full cup, and had burnt chorizo at the bottom. My favorite place to go to for Taco Tuesday! I usually come here on Tuesdays because they have a pretty good deal $2 per taco or $8.99 for a platter which has 3 (of the same) tacos, rice, and beans. All the tacos I've tried here are really good but my personal favorites are the al pastor, lengua, and chorizo. The al pastor is flavorful and has pieces of pineapple in it. The lengua is the best because its super tender and moist. The chorizo has the perfect amount of spice. I also got a chance to try their chips and guac, which I think everyone should order before their meal! The service here is friendly and the food comes out pretty fast too. Every table also comes with one order or chips and salsa, on the house. Overall I would come again and would want to try the other times on their menu as well! read more

I was greeted promptly. I requested the outdoor patio and I was told I didn't have to wait, I could seat myself and someone would bring me a menu. The menu was brought right out to me. I think it took longer to get the waitress to my table than it took to get my food. Lol Not complaining though. Everything was done in good time.
