I have been to El Agave multiple times, tried various items on the menu and have no compaints about their food. The service is generally good, with a few exceptions. For us, the service has never been terrible, just not as attentive at times. I've ventured out to the other restaurants in and around Warrenton that are labeled "Mexican" as well. We, as a group, keep coming back to El Agave. Depending on the meal, I may order guacamole or jalapenos to spice it up a bit. They serve Diet Pepsi. I prefer Diet Coke, but this restaurants version is acceptable. I have come to appreciate their chips and salsa. Once I opened my mind to other types of Mexican food, this restaurant grew on me .... and my family and friends. read more

I went to this restaurant with my father, and to my surprise, it was fantastic. The food was wonderful, the service was very nice, and it was just nice to eat there. I have given the establishment the benefit of the doubt one to many times. This time I place a pick up order, my daughter picked it up.... When she got home half our order was missing... I called back to speak to someone in charge... Of course no one.... then I did get a girl, I told her the story and said I'm checking to see what was missing... she says you are missing 6 tacos...What? she knew, I said I'm double checking, she informed me that she knew that was all i was missing, no one checked the order before it went out. We had to drive all the way back to town to pick up cold tacos... No I'm sorry, no discount, no coupon for our next visit. Horrible customer service, prices not great for quality of food..next time I go with my gut and stay with the home town Tippys. I'm really disappointed. read more

Havin lived on the west coast and in California for many years I was excited when I first tried the food at El Agave, very typical of the California/ Baja style of food. I don't get the knocks on the service it is at a pace that does not rush you out the door you are able to sit enjoy and relax. This is not an Americanized Mexican food. Only down side are the Margaritas the icy ones are not nearly as good as the ones on the rocks. read more

I'm generally not a big fan of Mexican cuisine - I've got to be in the right mood. But this place is really good! The food is very authentic and the atmosphere is great. Being new to the area, we decided to try out El Agave. What a terrible decision. Chips and Salsa as soon as we sat down, seemed like a good start, but alas it went down hill from there. The chips tasted like they right out of the bag and the salsa tasted like they had just poured it out of a jar bought at the Food Lion. We had a taco salad, not bad but nothing to write home about. A combination platter with a Soft Beef Taco (.75 upcharge) that had very little flavor, a cheese enchilada that had a red chile sauce that looked and tasted like it came form a Chef Boyardee can and a chicken chalupa, again not bad, just nothing outstanding. The third plate was some chicken thing my son got. About halfway through eating it he found something remarkably chewy. Of course it was chewy, IT WAS A FREAKING RUBBER BAND!!!. We called over the manager who said "Oh that must have come of the bag of chips" matter of factly and asked if we would like another meal. No that's okay we'll keep eating the one with the rubber band in it, hopefully we can find a paper clip too to complete the scavenger hunt. WTH!!! of course I want a new meal. Nothing taken off the check, no apology, never came back to the table except to drop off the check. DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE RETURNING TO THIS PLACE!! read more

Ive been going to El Agave for some time. I have ordered maybe 20 different items from the menu and overall on a scale of 1-10, id give it a firm 6. Mainly what has been driving me back is the chips and salsa they give you, that is hands down the best I have ever had (not to mention its FREE). So thats a strong force that keeps bringing me back. The cheese sauce they give you is also fantastic. Then there are the burritos, just awful, that is where El Agave fails in my opinion. Everything else is "alright". But what slaughters that place is the customer service. They arent rude dont get me wrong, theyre just about as friendly as a mud fence. The hostess's are awful, they seat you where you are suppose to sit and just walk away, no "have a good meal" or anything like that. They make you feel almost as if you are bothering them. The waiters, with an exception of maybe 2 or 3, (pretty much everybody except the veterans who have been there for 4+ years) look to be about as thrilled working there as one can be (please sense my sarcasm) and the service shows. We have had one waiter come to our table (and he did this twice by the way) and literally stand there and look at us, no "hi", or "my name is ....... and ill be your server tonight", no, the guy stood there like a statue and just waited for us to give him our order with this look on his face like we were really bothering him. Yeah....super friendly. Half the time we are there it takes a miracle for them to come back for drink refills. I can go on and on about the horrible services but the icing on the cake was about a week and a half ago, we were both starving and figured we would give this place one last shot. They closed at 9, it was 8:42 to be exact when we walked in, and the oh so friendly hostess turned us around and said they were closed. I said it was only 8:40 and all I got in reply was "we are closed". I kept my comments to myself and just left. So if you can overlook the unfriendly wait staff and the so-so menu, its great. Eat all the chips you can with salsa because its FREE and its amazing. And order something really cheap on the menu, and you can eat pretty good just on chips. read more

I visit this place once every three or four years, mostly because I love Tex-Mex (I picked this up in San Antonio), and I like a change of place from the other Tex-Mex restaurant in town (that one is average, but better than this place). The food is here is not bad, on par with the other restaurant, but what makes me relegate this place to once every 3-4 years, is the service. The people here are are outright rude. We eat out alot and we are always polite, which baffles me when I am treated in the opposite manner. I do not appreciate when the server retreats into the kitchen, and hear loud and obnoxious comments in spanish (maybe you should sound proof your kitchen). A hint to the people working there, just because people do not look latino does not mean we do not understand spanish. I spent a good amount of time in Texas while in the service, and many of my friends were Mexican and I learned a good amount of spanish. It's the second most common language in the US, for crying out loud. For those who don't understand spanish (which is pretty common in this area), and you suspect they are talking bad about you, stop being so xenophobic and learn some spanish, because they are. (This happens alot with Germans as well... my wife is not caucasian but also spent a good amount time in Germany while in the service, and two of her sisters are actual German citizens). Stop thinking people don't understand you just because they don't look like you. read more

went there about a week ago i ordered my drinks and took them 30 min to get them and they werent even busy the waiter was rude and the manager didnt not come when i wanted to talk to him about my waiter very slow service it sucks but i found another location called "rancho el paso"about a mile away on broadview ave that was the best mexican food i tasted fast service, staff very friendly chips and salsa excellent. read more

I am super disappointed in the El Agave staff in warrenton. I have NEVER waited for 20 minutes just to have my order taken with an additional 25 for the food to finally come out. Normally I would understand if the place was super busy, but today was not one of those days. In the time it took for us to give someone our order, other families received their food, ate everything, had desert, paid and left. In the time it took for us to actually receive or food, three more families we seated, orders taken, chips and salsa and apps on the table and their food was brought out. The other tables were checked on numerous times while our waiter sat in the back. We seemed to be her only table. When we tried to flag someone down to see what was up they didn't seem to want to acknowledge us or weren't paying attention. The best customer service we received was from one of the gentleman cleaning tables. We got no apology, no service, and no form of communication when we went to pay.
