Great food and great service in a casual atmosphere. We came here specifically based on our search for the famous Pueblo heirloom "slopper", a staple unique to this region of Colorado and known very little outside the area. For those that don't know, a slopper is basically a butter toasted bun, ground beef, salsa made with Pueblo (similar to Hatch) chilies, French fries, all smothered with cheese and served on a platter. El Aguascalientes absolutely makes a killer creation notably known as the slopper, but I should add that I've never had another one for comparison. Several companions I traveled with have enjoyed the Pueblo sloppers before and all said El Aguascalientes would rank 9/10 but they're partial to an establishment in Pueblo. Top it off with house margaritas for $5 on Wednesdays and the house chips and salsa, both phenomenal by the way. The house Salsa had so much flavor and a lot of burn yet still mild in nature, although some may consider it "hot". Thanks so much for your friendliness and hospitality! So hot that I forgot it was hot and burned my arm. Smh. They give you chips and salsa to snack on while your food cooks but honestly don't need to eat that many because the food come out super fast. Had a margarita and it was great! Super refreshing and delicious and yes you can taste the alcohol in it. I have 0 complaints. I love how friendly all the staff was. The friend who took us here was like "you know it feels authentic when you sit down and they bring you these homemade chips that's very subtly different from others'. And you look at the menu with all these regional specialties..." I gotta say, my friend was 100% right! We had great fun perusing the gigantic menu while trying to match a dish with its picture (often times the name of the dish is found on the opposing page from the picture...) Everything we've tried so far (we've already been here twice within a couple of weeks and ordered close to a dozen different items) is delicious. Especially the Cheese Stuffed Shrimp Wrapped in Bacon. So flavorful I'm convinced even non-bacon lovers would be converted! The only reason I took a star from a perfect score is their dishes tend to be a little pricey compared to the too many Mexican restaurants in this state. A fajita type of skillet with just chicken and chorizo (no seafood) is $23!!! Also, they automatically charge 15% gratuity so be sure to look at your check! It's all in Spanish so you could say they're sneaky but the way I looked at it is if they hadn't done that I might have tipped at 18% or even 20%... Also, if you check in on Yelp here you'll get a free margarita but be sure to mention the deal BEFOREHAND. The first time we were here my friend ordered a margarita but they wouldn't let us redeem the offer at the end because supposedly what you order off the menu is a much bigger size margarita than their free offer one. Conversely, not only is the food better at Aguascalientes, it is more affordably priced and the service is exceptional. In addition, the chips and salsa are still complimentary. My unfortunate experience was trying to get the burrito I wanted--ground beef and bean--they have 4 or 5 options for burritos on their menu depending on exactly how you want them. I pointed at a photo of the burrito I wanted -- the most expensive one because it had sour cream and guacamole scoops on top--plus cheese, lettuce and tomato, definitely wanted by me, several times. Waitress brought me a plain burrito--nothing accompanying it--and when I reminded her of what I ordered she said guac and sour cream were inside the burrito. I had pointed at the picture and said the name of that variety out loud several times and thought she understood. Trying not to be too picky I thought I'd give it a try so cut into it at several locations--disappointed to see no guac and tiny streaks of sour cream, and little bits of lettuce. Definitely don't want guac or lettuce inside of a burrito. I finally got something closer to what I really wanted--and had ordered--when I got the check I found they had charged me for the option I ordered and still charged me 3-4 dollars for the guacamole. read more

I'll give this place a low 3. Drinks 8/10 The micheladas are great. They come in these huge heavy glass cups with tajin and chamoy on the rim. It wasn't overly tomato-y or too spicy, it was perfect for my liking. Food 5/10 had the tacos de carne adobada and luckily the tacos themselves were good, but the sides that came with it were not good. The vegetables and garnishes were old and you could taste that they had been sitting in water for a long time. The ceviche mixto was the worst part. There was no seasoning, the vegetables were also old and slippery. I would get the tacos over the ceviche anyway, but I'm not sure I would come back. Service 7/10 The waitress that served us had an attitude towards us the entire time which was not a fun experience. She would come back and ask if we were doing okay, but overall it was awkward to talk to her. Overall, I wouldn't come back. We left with stomach aches :( read more

Not worth the money. I paid $9 for a combination plate of one flauta with rice and beans. I got a small flour tortilla shredded beef flauta. It was cut in half to look like a lot but each piece was bite size. Tiny. It came with a scoop of beans and "Mexican rice." The rice had no flavor. It was yellow but that was it. The beans were a little more flavorful but they were topped with shredded american cheese. There was a side of shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes with sour cream on top of it. Why? Is this a salad? I should know better than to eat Mexican food outside of Southern California or Mexico, but I gave this a try and i was disappointed of course. The plus of this place? The waitresses are nice and pleasant. They acknowledged me as soon as I walked in. The food was prepared quickly. There's a full service bar. And they have Tele-Novelas playing on the TV. It reminded me to call my mom. It is a little dark in the restaurant. Summary: if you want authentic Mexican food in Denver, this is not the place to go. On the topic of breakfast burritos... Never eaten dinner here but I might try now. The breakfast burritos run in the $2.50 to $3 range and given their size are a good value at that. The green chili was quite good, not too spicy, and just the right amount. Not greasy at all. Get their number and call the order in about 4 mins before you get there. Toddler taco tour 2019 stop number 12! I've probably driven past this place 200 times in the past four or five years and for some reason never stopped in, that was definitely a mistake. Just goes to show you can't judge a book by its cover. The entryway is a little strange and it's probably home to one of the saddest bars I've ever seen, but don't let that fool you, the food and the service here were terrific. The toddler got the kids flautas and I went to one of my go to the tacos al pastor. Normally when you get flautas for kids they are over fried little pieces of cardboard with maybe a little bit of me inside, these were crispy and flaky and really delicious, so delicious that I could barely even get a bite away from the kiddo. The tacos al pastore plate was gigantic, I think I brought home more leftovers than I then I actually ate of the meal itself. The meat was really well seasoned, and just a little crispy, for a great texture. They also included just the right amount of pineapple so as not to overwhelm the dish but just give it a little bit of extra flavor. We will definitely be coming back to this joint, and will likely bring some friends to share the delicious food! read more
