I'd give them a thousand stars if I could. Everything I've ever had or seen put on a table has been phenomenal. Their salsa bar is fantastic, and their service is great. I went from the time it was a grocery and restaurant and the way they've remodeled is amazing. I can't believe they even have a back room now! It's always packed but they're super fast. The decor is so much fun. I don't live in Augusta anymore but still stop by several times a year for a fix. Love you guys! So proud of you!! read more

No matter what city I am in I will always crave tacos! This trip was no different. While in Martinez, GA I used the Yelp app to help me narrow down which restaurant to dine at and El Rey was top of the list. The service was simply phenomenal! From the hostess, waitress and manager every one we came into contact with was wonderful. The food was absolutely DELICIOUS!!! We especially enjoyed and were excited the salsa / sauce bar (this was a 1st for us) and we definitely took advantage of trying each homemade salsa / sauce. Ambiance is welcoming and cozy! I came here for a girls night on a Friday night, so obviously it was packed. I was able to reserve a table a couple of hours beforehand so that we can avoid a long wait. We ordered a pitcher of house strawberry margaritas, pollo con queso, a burrito, al pastor taco combo, and elote ribs. The margs were good and you can't taste the tequila. The food was ok, not the best I've had and it wasn't hot as if it was fresh. They also have a salsa bar, but we found a hair in the guac. The service was ok, and we couldn't hear her over the loudness of the restaurant so it was difficult to hear or understand. We all paid around $25-$30, but I think I can get better food elsewhere. read more

Came here as a group dinner and was profoundly disappointed. Took some snap shots of what my co workers and I ordered. I got the street tacos, each taco at $4.50. Chicken was bland and portions were tiny. Another friend ordered a chicken taco. They forgot his order and when we asked for it, sure it came out as a quick turn around but it literally looked like the chef took a tortilla, threw some chicken, sprinkled little cheese and microwaved it. Did not come with any sides and needless to say, he did not finish it. The restaurant was packed and staff were busy around 6-7pm on a Thursday, so I wonder if this experience of ours was a one off situation. I stopped in for dinner last night with the family and the place was hopping. Almost seemed like a Friday at other restaurants. This place is so busy they just did a needed extension. Probably the best Mexican cuisine in Augusta. Food: Excellent we had different dishes. I had the Pollo Jalisco and it was seasoned to perfection, came with rice, tortillas, and a guacamole salad, and just the right portion. My son and daughter had the Pollo Con Crema with Chipotle. It came with rice and beans and again the portion was just right. Service: Excellent, we were greeted as we arrived by a host at a reception type desk, he and our waiter were equally friendly and polite. The wait staff is always so polite and friendly, if you can't make a decision of their menu, they can definitely point you in the right direction. Recommendation outside of EVERYTHING on the menu: the Birria menu is to die for. Absolutely this spot! This time around, my friend ordered all cooked veggies on their beef nachos (due to a medical condition they have), and this was what the chef created. It was absolutely delicious. El Rey's customer service is above local par. I truly love coming here. One taco Tuesday, my sister and I happened to stop here for tacos and some drinks and we've been patronizing this establishment since! I used to despise Mexican food, but El Rey's is in my Top 3 in the CSRA. When you walk in, you seat yourself. Everyone that works at the establishment had on masks, they clean the tables between patrons, and the tables are spaced to allow social distancing. They've also started having outdoor seating as well. On this occasion, I ordered fish tacos, rice and beans, and of course a mixed drink. Let's get into the sides: the rice is packed with flavor! The beans are seasoned and not just thrown on the plate looking like slop, they even sprinkle some cotija on them. The fish tacos are MAGNIFICENT! They're tilapia and they add some aioli on top of them. This is taco greatness!!! They also make the corn tortilla in house! They also have a salsa bar, but it's no longer self serve, everything is already in cups for you. Try the mango salsa, you will love it! I normally order a large mangonado, but this time I wanted something different so I ordered the Pepita. I love a spicy, salty tasting drink and it hit the spot. They don't skimp on the alcohol and your drinks aren't watered down. We ended up sitting longer than usual to sip some water to make it home.
