More like a 3 1/2. My wife ordered the #1 - Queso Puff, cheese enchilada and substituted for a chicken taco. I order the Steak Tampaqueno that come with a beef enchilada and taco. Both dishes came with refried beans and rice. The Good: Very good salsa, in particular the green sauce. The red sauce is served warm. The chips were fine, but nothing special. The refried beans were standard fare, but would have preferred them smokier and some melted cheese. My wife like her Queso Puff, was and light airy and generous cheese. We both thought the enchiladas were quite good. Very well done chili gravy and great cheese (long pull). The steak was on the tough side, but great flavors. The Bad: The rice, way too much going on. Had a lot of corn in it, too tomato forward and had a definite sweetness. In all, a decent meal at @ fair price, but for our tastes nothing really special.... read more

I placed an on line order on 9-28-24 for fajitas for 2. It cost me 76.46. You no longer get free salsa you have to order it at 2.50 per small 4 oz container. The 2 cokes cost me 7.00. Then they not only add tax but miscellaneous fee I guess to pay for the to go packaging which came to $10.47. Then they asked for a 20% tip. Nice decor, pretty large place. Private parking lot , next to a gelato and kids play place. We came Saturday afternoon for lunch. There was a decent after church lunch crowd but no wait. We were served really quick. Chips came with green creamy salsa, red salsa, and beans. I ordered the 2 quail plate. Toddler had cheese quesadillas with fries. Fries were thick steak fries. They come out pretty hot. Quail was juicy on a sizzling plate but was rather salty. Waiter was friendly and fast. Menu was pretty extensive so he had to come back like 3 times before I was ready to order... he only gave us a couple minutes to decide. Lol. I kept making him come back. Tortillas were good. I have been several times to this Mexican restaurant and the food is excellent there. The staff is great, the place is nice and clean. The charro beans are excellent have not had good pinto beans since I left El Paso, TX. As for the dish or dishes: the fajitas are soft and have great flavor, and they put plenty on your plate. We stopped in here only because it was a few doors down from Hooray indoor playground, and me and the kiddos were hungry. I am very glad we stopped in. I think this place is a hidden gem. They have some great specials and marketing, but it only seems to be on the screens inside. I'd seen nothing advertised outside or on social media before. Kids eat free every Monday and Tuesday nights, and those nights are also half priced margarita night! Great combo I'd say, as a mom of three. For a limited time only, kids eat free on Saturdays too. Sundays they have 2 for 1 margaritas and live music. They start off good from the time you sit down. The chips are fresh, the service is attentive, and they serve red and green salad, and beans too. The queso is pretty good as well. Each of us were really happy with our dinners. This is classic Texas Mex. Refried beans served in red taco shell bowls, big portions, and great flavor. Next time I am getting the fajitas! They have some stellar fajita choices and the table next to us had ordered some that looked and smelled phenomenal. So as someone who can't eat a lot of Mexican food due to food allergies. I'm always looking for places that have food that i can have. So the menu is very big and a lot of choices but like most, a little pricey. My husband and I decided to split fajitas. The meat comes out sizzling, which I ask them not to do, because the smoke is crazy insane. You don't get too much meat but it's enough for us. You get rice and beans with all the trimmings. However, it's not enough for two, so we order a second bowl of rice, which they charge way to much. We also one week decided to try a burrito and it wasn't very good. It was loaded with beans and not a lot of meat. I wouldn't order it again. I also decided to order a child's plate cheese quesadilla. Well, this was not a good choice. The cheese was barely there and it was cold. For 6-7$, it was so not worth it. So I will say the food is good here but the prices aren't, for what you get. Also customer service here is a dice roll. Sometimes you feel rushed and sometimes it takes a while. On a good note, they do have live music here at night. read more

We have had meals there in past. Went with our grandchildren yesterday. I ordered vegetable fajita. Kids ordered beef fajita. Mine was so bad and salty. Kids tortillas were sooooo oily. We brought it to attention of the waiter and all he did was bring us two tortillas and nothing about the salty fajitas. I am not sure what changed there but we are not going to return there again. We told him it was our 1st time and he had advised and he advised us on what to get depending on our taste Buds . The Environment and food was in point . Walked in and the hostess asked where we wanted to sit then grabbed menus and quickly walked away without saying anything else, I guess I was supposed to follow her. Sat on the patio. Finally got our drink order in, got our drinks fairly quickly. Waiter never came back so we couldn't order an appetizer. When he did come back we ordered our entrees being it took about 20+ minutes for him to come back after dropping drinks off. We had to ask about our food twice, which took about 35 minutes to even come out. Asked for our check, waiter walked by us twice, still no check. Ended up just handing him our card. Food was good. The cheese in the cheese enchilada was over cooked and hard. Tortillas aren't the homemade type. Literally taste like the ones you get at HEB. Drinks were good, came out warm until I stirred it to cool it down with the ice, then the ice melted quickly. Super small portion of rice, maybe a half cup worth. Overall, food was good. I've driven by this restaurant 100 times. Tonight after work, on a whim, my husband and I met here for dinner. We were so impressed. What a lovely restaurant. Casual, but clean and decorated with Mexican flair. The ladies restroom was super-clean. Our waiter Jesus, was so friendly, polite, and charming. We would definitely ask to be seated in his section again. My husband ordered the Shrimp Enchiladas and I selected the Plate Eight which featured a shrimp enchilada, chicken flauta, and taco al carbon. The classic margaritas were average. Next time, I might try a specialty cocktail. (Half-price Margaritas Mon-Wed All Day!) I don't know how they sell desserts with the custom Argentinian Gelato spot located next door. El Asador is much closer to our new home, and just might replace our "usual" Tony's. read more

Tonight was my third time to dine at El Asador. All three times we were greeted right away, seated immediately and had incredibly good and friendly service. They serve decent margaritas (half-price on Mondays). They have excellent presentation with their food and drinks and are very attentive. The fajitas aren't the greatest in the world, but they're pretty decent. This is a low-key neighborhood restaurant, so I wasn't expecting superior food or steep prices. I was quite impressed with all that considered. I will definitely be returning, since they're only minutes from my house and offer a nice date night out for my fiancé and I. read more

We were just there this past Wednesday night, and what a disappointment it was. I ordered the Pescado a la Mexicana expecting a beautiful filet of fish dressed in fresh vegetables. What I got was a rubbery piece of fish buried under a 1/2 inch of liquified butter. I literally couldn't cut the fish with a fork or with a knife! I called the waiter over who gladly said he'd have the chef make another fillet. In under 3 minutes, I got another overcooked, rubber-like piece of snapper that wasn't even hot. It defies all logic when you can pick up an entire fish fillet with a single stab of a fork. It was like a pile of hardened glue. Absolutely disgusting! I pushed the plate away as my appetite was destroyed. My Dad's meal wasn't hot and the remaining meals were reportedly bland and lacked flavor. Even worse, the booth/table we were sat at was filthy. We will never return. Don't waste your money or disappoint your taste buds! It's no wonder the place was as empty as it was. I only gave them one star so I could forewarn the public by posting this honest review. The fajita was tender, the margaritas are amazing!! The only downside was our server. He was not friendly, and he only checked on us twice. This review is for a To Go order (although we have eaten inside the restaurant several times and been pleased with the service and food). We ordered the Premium Chicken Fajitas for 2 ($26.99). Like I said, we have eaten there several times so the reason for the review is to really commend them on the amount of chicken and fixings they provide. My family of four happily ate two loaded fajitas each and there was still some leftover (the order was for 2). We have ordered before from other Mexican restaurants and they are either skimpy on the tortillas, salsa but especially the meat. This place loads you up! The chicken comes with their "special" sauce which I think is just buttery, lemony goodness. We got 8 fresh, hot tortillas. And plenty of other fajita fixings. This is down the road from my work so on days we have time to leave and get lunch, we usually go here! The food is really good but the service most of the time has been a little slow. I usually get the quesadillas and they are delicious but I tried the flautas last time and YUM! Super good. We have never had to wait for a table but it usually takes a while to get our check and pay but that could be because they are splitting our bill. Definitely will keep coming here! read more

THE BEST MARGARITAS IN KATY!!!! They are seriously SO good!! I love that they use fresh fruit/juice in a lot of their margs. The food is always so delicious, and the portion sizes are HUGE!
