Great service, and very tasty food. It's the first time I've had pupusas, but they were fresh and delicious, as were the roasted plantains.

I was anticipating a hand-sized pupusa, and what was on the flat top were pupusas about the size of my head. Not necessarily a problem, but even a Salvadoran friend of mine was put off by how big the pupusas were when I sent him a picture. The second was the price. I get inflation and yadda yadda, but I looked at the menu picture on here for the pork pupusa ($7) and when I got there in person it was actually $10. Now, I get that the menu picture was 3 years ago, but yeesh. Again, the Salvadoran friend was blown away by the price. The pupusa itself was rather greasy, and had a very strong masa flavor. It was less a pocket of meat rather a flat pancake with meat throughout. Once I got towards the center, the flavor was a lot better. The curtido and the hot sauce made the pupusa much better. Over all, say it was pretty decent, but I would not get it again considering the price. If you like very large portions, you'll have no problem with these pupusas. It just wasn't for me. Pupusa: 7.0/10 With curtido and hot sauce: 7.6/10 Total: $10

Flavorful and very authentic food. Serviced by owners which makes it even more enjoyable.read more

We got the Pollo and Queso (chicken and cheese) pupusa and the Loroco and Queso ( Loroco [a flower bud native to Centeal America] and cheese) pupusa. I feel like this is the first time I tried to pupusa and I know it was the first time my dad and nephew had ever tried pupusas. We thoroughly enjoyed them. They were ok plain but the red sauce and slaw that they gave us to go with them really enhanced the flavor. My dad ate most of the hot bar plate that. The plate came with rice, beans, a pupusa, plantains and a main dish. We got the beef. It was a good size portion. The ladies and the gentleman that assisted us inside were so helpful and happy that we came to try their authentic dishes. Will have to come back on a Tuesday and take advantage of the Tuesday special. Pupusa 503 850 Chancellor Park Dr Ste C Charlotte, NC 28213 (Review 26 in 2024 and 826 overall)

The restaurant has both takeout and dine in options. There is plenty of seating both in the front and rear of the restaurant. They have all your typical Salvadorean staples like the famous Pupusas as well as yuca con chicharrón. The typical breakfast dishes are also great. You can't go wrong with any of their dishes. However I suggest you dine in and have some fresh made pupusas revueltas. They are basically tortillas stuffed with Mozzarella cheese and grounded pork. You can also get them with just cheese or just pork. For a cold drink try the Horchata, it's made from a grounded down seed. For a hot drink try the Atol de Elote, made from corn.....deliciously smooth and velvety. The bakery has typical cookies and sweet breads, they are all on display for you to pick and choose. The store has candies, chips, medicine, arts and crafts & shirts all imported from El Salvador. If your missing home this place will take you back. If you want the Salvadorean experience than you have come to the right place! The staff is friendly and efficient, place is casual and laid back. Food is cooked fresh so you may wait a little, be patient. If in Charlotte stop by and get a little taste of my country you most definitely will not be disappointed!

This was just a delicious meal. The place has a wide variety of seating options for almost any size group. We also noticed they seem to do a brisk takeout business as well. No disputing the authenticity of the food; this is not a chain. The service was fast and friendly, although it did take a short while for the meal to be delivered. El Carbonero is quite casual, this is not a fancy spot. There were families and workers enjoying their freshly made pupusas. They only take cash, so be prepared. Point, providing no street visibility, and a rough parking lot! The inside mirrors the outside, worn but clean and with a decent amount of seating - booths and tables, functional if not comfortable! Bibical verses adorn the wall, obviously no fear here of standing up for what you believe in an increasingly secular society - courage should always be acknowledged, IMHO! I ordered the aforementioned Pupusas - 4 Cheese and Pork for $11.50 with Crudito included! These were good, not great, Pupusa - under-seasoned for my tastes (added a Rick Bayless (you must know who he is) measure of salt) and it was were I needed it to be - but still weak! Unfortunately the Crudito was very weak, barely fermented - a great side when done right, not the case here! This was not bad food, but there is better available, even as close as Los Primos, only several miles away! The combination of under-seasoning, lack of pork, and uneven grilling makes this more than a bit off the charts for best of show!
