What a nice surprise it was to stumble upon this authentic Guatemalan restaurant in Morganton! We dashed in for a quick lunch on a weekday. It was hopping with folks enjoying lunch. We saw a lot of people eating thr soup - served in deep ramen type bowls. Next time we will order soup. It looked tasty! As it was we ordered our favorites - I got three types of Tacos Al Pastor with fresh onions and cilantro. They will grill the onions if you prefer. I prefer raw. I ordered pork, beef and chicken. All tasty! Husband ate the tamale and some of my tacos. Chips were warm and crispy. You fetch your own salsa at a salsa bar - very fresh - the green sauce is extra picante (spicy)! Btw the service was fast and friendly, despite the crowd! There is also a store and deli/butcher shop on the other side of the restaurant. We will be back! Just go - !

    Lunch Special ACP Tex

Stopped by here for a lunch hour. Very nice grocery store and restaurant. Wanted to try out the Torta Cubana, but could get the ACP Tex style for $4 less. That ACP comes with shrimp added and was a great meal for $8. The restaurant also has a self serve salsa bar with 4 flavors. This is authentic Guatemalan, so make sure you can handle some spice. One thing to watch for the is the sewer drain in the front of the parking lot. Didn't effect me, but it's quite the hole in the parking lot near the entrance where cars enter. I could definitely see that wrecking a few cars that are lower to the ground, so keep an eye out for that

    Tacos Asada with grilled onions

Some of the best Mexican food I've had in NC! My wife and I stopped in while visiting Morganton and Asheville. Maybe the best food we had all trip. My wife had the Tacos Asada with grilled onions. I had the Torta Milanesa. My torta was outstanding and her tacos were even better. I've chased authentic Mexican food all over Texas, California, and the rest of the southwest. This place is up there with the best! As my wife said, it's good to know that food like this is out there.

    Fried chicken. Delish!!!

I ordered chicken empanadas with a side of black beans and rice. Husband ordered variety trio of papusas. We like Mexican food - hisband's grandparents owned a Mexican restaurant in Los Angeles years ago. This restaurant was a step above the usual fare bcs it offered empanadas and papusas - which are Latin American. We ate empanadas often while living in Panama as teenagers. We were so happy to find them on the menu. Tasty. Papusas were tasty as well - I tried the one filled with pork. Highly recommend - we will definitely return. Just go!

About 10 minutes after that, a family came in and she immediately gave them menus and took their order. Almost 30 minutes has gone by so we just got up and left. Don't bother going there.

I have been visiting Black Mountain for years but haven't tried this interesting restaurant yet…read more Today was the day for me/us and marked the day the train returned on its route through Black Mountain. We were impressed by the interest and fanfare this post-Helene event created for the locals. Parking on the street, across the street or a short way up the street is town free parking. Shannon and Rain were our friendly and helpful servers. There are many seating options. We chose the sun room which was comfortable. Others were seated outside on the side porch and several people were inside. We shared a bowl of the delicious French onion soup. Eat it while it's hot for the best experience. The buckwheat crepes were the perfect consistency to handle the savory entrees. My Market crepe was packed full of goodies including the sausage add-on. Each ingredient stood well on its own. The pesto was a standout. My partner got the mushroom crepe with chicken. She enjoyed immensely. Both entrees came with a fresh greens and balsamic dressing. The servings were generous enough to bring two halves home for dinner. Sharing soup and a savory crepe is a reasonable strategy if leaving leftovers in your vehicle during the summer heat is a concern. We joined the servers on the patio to watch the return of the train through a nicely recovering town.

A taste of Columbia in Downtown Statesville, who knew?!? Well, I did kinda...I have passed this…read moreColumbian "bakery" for many years without a second thought and I sure could kick myself for not trying it sooner! The Columbian Bakery+Restaurant has operated in this same storefront for around 20 years but I have never stopped in. I am not particularly familiar with Columbian-style foods and I did not feel there was anything that I would like from their "bakery". Boy, I do not think I have ever been more wrong about anything in my life...memories of past boyfriends start to creep in slowly-haha! I am currently obsessed with Statesville's Columbian Bakery+Restaurant! Yes, I said it! Not slightly obsessed, completely obsessed! I have patronized this business twice this week already and I plan to go there again before the weekend is over! The food is amazingly and authentically appetizing! To date, I have experienced the yummy goodness that is their Beef Empanadas, Tostones, Maduros, and my current foodie crush, Pan de Bonos. Each and every food item is fresh made to order except of course, for the bakery items BUT the bakery items are fresh made daily. The Beef Empanadas are a little meat-filled hand pie and they are so delicious! The pie consists of a thin cornmeal-type crust wrapped around the meat filling then deep fried. The meat filling is finely chopped or minced beef with small bits of potato (another reviewer said, beans, idk which it is but they're delicious) mixed in. It sounds heavy but it is actually quite light because the consistency of the filling is so fine and the outer crust is so thin. These yummies are so good, you cannot eat just one! The Tostones are smashed and fried green plantains. These are a salty side which taste like potatoes and they pair very well with the empanadas. The Maduros are fried ripe plantain chunks. I have had these before at other Latin restaurants and I do love them! The maduros from Columbian Bakery+Restaurant did not disappoint! They are just as good as any I've had and maybe just a little better because they are so fresh when you get them! These are a sweet side with just a hint of tartness. They pair well with any of the spicy foods served at this restaurant but I always eat them as a dessert! My favorite, the Pan de Bonos, are a bakery item but I was lucky enough to stop by when pan after pan of these little delectable puff balls were coming out hot and fresh from the oven. Yesssss! Who doesn't love a light and fluffy cheese bread ball?!? Cheese and Bread! Sign me up every time! But not to worry these addictive little things reheat really well in the microwave. I know because I ordered a dozen on my last visit! I cannot wait to go back to this Columbian paradise right in the heart of Statesville and try out more of their food offerings! The Columbian Bakery+Restaurant is active on social media, both Facebook and Instagram, so check them out! Be forewarned, they post videos of their yummy goodness often! They, also, have an online menu app.colombianbakerync.com for your browsing pleasure. You're welcome! I think I see a trip to Downtown Statesville in your near future! @columbianbakerystatesville @downtownsvl #supportsmallbusiness #supportlocalbusiness #shopsmall #shoplocal #eat-local
