We came here on the last day during our trip in Puerto Rico, wanting to check out Fajardo. We followed the reviews and found this place, agree with the overall 4/5 rating. We ordered three things: fish taco $4; red snapper $18 and oysters $12.5. Fish taro js a bomb, 6/5 haha. Only $4 and you will get a very sizable fish taro with just the perfect temperature and toppings. Go for them. Oysters are bad, 1/5. Very very fishy. I grew up by the ocean and can handle fishy food more than 99% of the people, yet this oysters appetizer is just sooo fishy. No no. Red snapper is okay, 4.5/5. It has good flavor and I am happy that they offered to boil it instead of deep frying it. I am so done with deep fried food after being in Puerto Rico for a week. The downside is that (1) this place doesn't have an ocean view though walkable to the water; and (2) because it is so close to the water, it has a lot of flies and bugs along with some smell. read more

This place is pretty hidden! We stumbled across it when we were parked looking for a place to eat! We decided to be seated outside, they had standard plastic chairs and tables under canopy's. They did have a chicken coup with chickens casually walking around as we ate which was cool. I am vegetarian but normally I know places will have some sort of plate. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I had a side of vegetables and a side of rice and beans. The beans were cold as if they just came out of the fridge. My boyfriend had a lobster and shrimp tacos, despite being different from traditional tacos he said they were good. The appetizers were the BEST part of the place. We got fried plantains, coconut arepas, and corn sticks. All were super yummy. We went on a deep sea fishing charter trip the same morning (the charter we did was KonKlma Fishing Charters - which I highly recommend!!) and were recommended to take our catch to this restaurant to have it cooked for us. They did not disappoint! They grilled our king fish excellently! We could not stop eating it. We also got 2 sides of vegetables and 2 sides of rice and beans stew, which were both splendid! This place is absolutely horrible!!! The only good thing was our kind and understanding waitress!!! We found this place on YELP and it was highly rated so we decided to try it out. The lobster tacos looked good from outside but once you cut them open a horrible fishy smell immediately hits you. Seafood should not smell like a sour rotten fishy smell. Took one bite and it was horrible, definitely wasn't lobster. We didn't eat them. Our meals came out and the shrimp was definitely old, my friend nearly vomited after first bite. I attempted a piece of mine and it was definitely bad!!! The mofongo was hard and no flavor. We returned our food. The manager came out very rude and told us it's fish it's supposed to taste fishy!!! Uhhh no!! Save your time and money and drive down a bit further to the other restaurants on the beach!!! We drove all the way out from Bayamon to have dinner here and were sadly disappointed. The fish was very fresh but the service was an utter disappointment. Unless you knew the servers or were regulars, be prepared to sit for +30 min before they even come to your table. The girls are too busy talking to their friends and chit chatting amongst themselves. Fantastic fresh fish and a local atmosphere! Friendly service, and humble surroundings. Right on the shore by the entrance to Laguna Grande! Everything here is made fresh, using local recipes. Things are done "the traditional way." There are windows where you can see the making the arepas (fried bread), and while our kids were watching with fascination, they were invited to help out! We also got a personal tour of their fresh catches, as well as things they had tucked away in their freezer! This was probably our best dinner out in Puerto Rico, and we will definitely be back! We brought our own fish for them to cook, thinking we'd get a discount for supplying the main ingredient. When we did this at Racar down the street, they cooked it for us free of charge as long as we ordered plenty of other dishes and drinks. At El Bohio, we ended up being charged $40 for them to cook a fish we caught and brought ourselves! And this is for a small grouper that feeds 2 people. It's our fault for not negotiating the price, but the restaurant also made no effort to inform us they were going to charge so much. Other items on the menu also seemed overpriced. The atmosphere is humble. Outdoor seating under an overhang and a tent atop a concrete driveway. No view. WOW SIMPLY AMAZING! We stumbled upon El Bohio, a family owned restaurant after asking a local man for the best Fried Snapper in the area, he pointed us to El Bohio. To start, we had the shrimp tacos, now these aren't the tacos we are used to back in the states, they are deep fried deliciousness packed with small but deliciously sautéed shrimp. For dinner we all ordered the Fried Red Snapper, they brought out some fresh Snappers for us to select, I had a 1.2lbs Red Snapper and it was awesome! As a side I had tostones with Rice and Beans, the Red Snapper was super delicious, not greasy, just perfectly fried! The meat came right off of the bone with a fork, nice crispy skin and soft and very meaty interior. We met one of the Owners named Jose who happened to be a super cool guy, my friends and I instantly made a connection with him, two days later we were out hanging out on the island of Icacos with him, his wife and a friend of theirs, what an awesome time we had! We have been to Puerto Rico dozens of times and let me tell you, our experience with Jose of El Bohio was simply amazing! We found El Bohio (the house in the Taino language) through the recommendation of a local, as a place that was not very well known but extremely good. It is run by the family and it's in the downstairs of a house. There is inside and outside seating not fancy, but if you're staying on the east side of the island and looking for the freshest food with great family service. This is the place. We ordered the red snapper, because we know they catch it locally on that side of the island. After we placed our order, the young waiter came back and asked us if we wanted to change our order because the fishermen were just bringing in other fish to the restaurant that very minute. We stuck to the Chillo (Red Snapper). They serve Puerto Rican seafood in their own local style. Garlic, butter, local herbs. Local fruit juices passionfruit, tamarind, parcha, guava. The juices, like the fish, change depending on what is fresh that day. They offer a full bar and the friendliest service by either a member or a friend of the family. At about 10 minutes from El Conquistador hotel and 5 minutes from the Luminescent Bay Kayak Tours, El Bohio is a great stopping place if you want real local tastes and ambiance. read more

Such a great local place for seafood. Got sent here by our snorkeling guide as a place he loves to come himself for seafood. It's a local spot the fishermen bring their catch. We planned on dining at least once in Puerto Rico at a "high end" place (i.e. Expensive) once during our trip and had a few places in mind, but after arriving here we just decided to spend it all here. We ended up ordering fried plantain stuffed with lobster, lobster tacos, conch in garlic, octopus mofongo, coconut fry bread, tres leche, fish soup. The coconut fry bread was so good we got a half dozen to go (they also sell them by the dozen if you have a kitchen and want to fry yourself later). All told for the 2 (yea we're pigs) of us - under $100. read more

This place is amazing! We were sent here by our fishing guide at 787Fishing.com (Capt. Juan). He filleted our 8 lb. snapper for us and we brought it here to be prepared. They did half fried and half grilled. Both were amazing!!! The fried fish was cooked perfectly and not greasy at all - very light. The grilled fish had great seasoning and grilled veggies with it. So yummy. For sides, we had the reg. and coconut fried bread - unbelievable. Like sopapillas without the honey. ( so good we took extra home!). Salads were pretty basic, but fresh. Beer was cheap, too! $1.75 per. Very close to biobay tours and a perfect stop after. The owners are commercial fishermen so you know the fish is fresh. Whole meal for 5 people was only $53! This is my family's favorite restaurant on the island! My late mother in law, late father in law, and husband have been going here for years. The food is incredible, and I've never had any issues with service, even when they are busy. This is always our first stop when we get to the island...even before we reach our house. When my in laws passed away, the owners were amongst the first to offer their condolences. They take their time to get to know their loyal customers and develop relationships with them. Given that this restaurant is located down a dirt road, adjacent to a construction site, in a poorly fenced off shack, I was surprised the food was very good. To be honest, I am surprised I ate here. I am surprised my husband even talked me into getting out of the car. Very dive-y and literally a shack. Single me would never be here, but apparently love does make you do STRANGE things. My husband has been on the hunt for a fried red snapper ever since the local restaurant shut down, taking his beloved dish with him. Believe it or not, this is the THIRD spot he tried during our THREE day trip to Puerto Rico that listed a fried red snapper on the menu- -neither had fish in stock when we arrived. His relentless craving for a fried red snapper brought us here for lunch. We sat at a dilapidated folding table, covered in a clean-ish table cloth, in cheap plastic patio chairs and my husband ordered. I admit, I pulled out some Clorox wipes and wiped down EVERYTHING. My husband orderd the Camarones (shrimp) and Lobster taco wraps and the elusive fried snapper. The waiter brought over some Fried Bread as a starter. The Camarones (shrimp) and Lobster Tacos were surprisingly delightful. The sauce was delicious and the taco wrap was quite flavorful. Fried bread was deicious!! Just the right texture and seasoning.
