Delicious food and excellent service! El Buen Gusto is a cute little restaurant located in Whittier near the Rose Hills Cemetery. The owner is kind and goes above and beyond in making sure you are happy. I love the atmosphere, so peaceful whether you choose indoor or outdoor.

Very comfy and very cozy! You can come here for a nice date or bring the family!

El Buen Gusto absolutely lived up to its name! I ordered the tostada and the enchilada de pollo with the best mole, and both were outstanding. The tostada was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, while the mole had a rich, authentic taste that was easily one of the best I've had. Every bite was packed with flavor, and you can tell they take pride in their food. Great service, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere made the experience even better. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. Highly recommend!

What a lovely space to arrive to after a looong day at Rose Hills in the worst traffic for Dia de Muertos! El Buen Gusto welcomed our party with a clean, quiet and inviting space for our tired feet and grumbling stomachs. Best of all, were the starters and that so basic and essential of Mexican cuisine: chips and salsa -- crunchy warm chips and flavorful salsa (ask for hot because the standard is for those who don't dare...) House Horchata -- you can taste it :) Latte!? Yes, they make them and they're great! Flautas -- yum, yum, yum, .... and, can do with less crema. Menudo and Pozole from family got two thumbs up! Next time im in Whittier -- im there! And to the locals -- you're lucky!

January 2026 updated review Super tasty food!! Everything I have tried was delicious. Food doesn't disappoint. Service is amazing!!! Which is why I keep coming back. They really remember who the regular customers are. Ambiance is great! Nice songs playing in the background. Restaurant is clean and just realized they have the cutest changing table in one of the restrooms :) TYSM El Buen Gusto!!!

We have lived down the street from this restaurant for years and finally stopped in. What a hidden gem. Very cozy feel on the inside. Food was delicious. Very authentic. Separates itself from your typical Mexican restaurant. Prices were reasonable. Will definitely come back.

My local fave place to eat! El Buen Gusto is so good they serve authentic Mexican food with the best service! The new interior is so cute and perfect for date nights. I got the beef flautas and they were delicious. A friend got the torta and fajitas and they were so so good! If you're in Whittier you need to stop by! I am excited to come back to try their breakfast & many coffee options (mochas, cappuccinos, frappes). Thanks El Buen Gusto for being a gem in Whittier!

This is the menu, Great food real authentic Mexican food. Prices are very reasonable, the food is so delicious we keep coming back.

Great place to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. Awesome place with really authentic Mexican dishes with a twist. Very clean and awesome service.

The food here is honestly AMAZING everything was fresh, flavorful, and made with so much care. Definitely worth checking out!

I have to give this place the recognition it deserves The food here is honestly AMAZING everything was fresh, flavorful, and made with so much care. You can tell there's real passion behind every dish. What made the experience even better was the owner, who was super kind, welcoming, and truly involved. It's rare to see that level of dedication and heart. It honestly surprised me that this place isn't more packed, because it absolutely should be. If you're looking for great food and genuine hospitality, this spot is definitely worth checking out

For the two of us, two little candies came with our receipt.

El Buen Gusto has the kindest, warmest, and most welcoming staff. I feel as though I'm stepping into a warm little hideaway. This is also the cleanest restaurant I have ever seen. The restroom is actually beautiful and fresh. Today we had breakfast burritos. I asked for the Machaca without the tortilla. The tortilla chips and salsa were delicious. We had Café de olla, which had a wonderful flavor. The price is reasonable and the quality superb!! For Father's Day, they brought a delicious cheesecake.

Heard this place had pretty good food so we decided to try it out. We were greeted when we entered and got some chips and salsa. I loved how the salsa was warm! The ceviche was pretty good but it needed just a little salt. The fish tacos were big and the fish was hot and delicious. Before we paid the bill, the waitress brought us some Mexican candy which was really good. I'd definitely come back!

Chorizo with eggs, rice and beans Yummy!!!

I can't helped it lol I 'm trying to pick different dishes from the menu, I usually enjoyed the same things so it's time to try different things. I order huevos con chorizo and they are delicious! cafe de olla as usual and corn pancakes Yummy!! My mom order menudo and is really good you have to try it! This home made food it's the best!! I give them plus *** reasonable prices***

    Nice decorations overhead.

The first thing I noticed was their outdoor patio frames with lots of greenery! Small tables outside are very welcoming. Interior decor is all new with a basketry theme. So charming! I was warmly greeted by the owner and waitress and was seated immediately. My order of Tacos de Camaron was so delicious! It was two tacos of tempura shrimp in warm corn tortillas with mayo chipotle dressing, cabbage, cheese, and pico de gallo. So good! I also was pleasantly surprised to find out that they serve café de olla! It was delicious! The staff made sure I was well taken care of. I'm definitely returning!!

Their moles are definitely worth trying. We've had the mole negro and the mole pipián, and both were delicious. The mole negro is a little sweeter, while the pipián has more spice. They also serve tortilla chips with mole, which is something I haven't seen at most Mexican restaurants. The reason I can't give 5 stars is because the service has been hit or miss. We've been here three times. The first time was shortly after they opened. The food tasted decent but came out cold, and the service wasn't the best. It was during the week and not very busy, so we figured they were still working out the kinks of being a new restaurant. After some time, we decided to give them another try. We went on a busy Friday night and were seated right away. The service was much better and everything seemed to be running more smoothly. We talked with the owner who was working as well as his wife who was bartending. They were both really friendly, and the owner seemed genuinely happy that we came back after we told him about our first experience. He even gave my husband a free beer after we moved to the bar to keep drinking after we finished our meals to allow for other guests to dine at the table we were. There was also a trio playing that night which added to the ambiance and was a nice way to end the work week. Our most recent visit was a couple of weeks ago for my husband's birthday. It was during the week and once again they were short-staffed. There was only one waitress taking care of the entire restaurant. She was so sweet and hustling the whole time but she was also bartending while serving every table. We definitely had to pack our patience because she was doing the best she could. Overall, Sol 626 has so much potential to be a great spot. The food, drinks, and atmosphere are what keep bringing us back. They need a little more staffing so the service can be as good as everything else.

However we were going either way because it was also our featured DJ's birthday. We made reservations but that was difficult too as we called for several days until someone actually answered the phone. I was a little surprised because the food we ordered were all pretty tasty, decent portions, and reasonably priced. The service was ok. Orders took a little time to arrive, but they made sure we had chips and salsa and with a full crowd and a limited number of wait staff, they made sure we were still being attended too. It is very loud here with a full restaurant of diners, the live DJ and football games going with loud cheering fans, so if you have sensitive hearing, bring some ear plugs.

Even though the restaurant is small and busy, we were seated right away, which was a great start. Our waiter Washington, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made our whole experience even better. The atmosphere was perfect too. They had music playing at just the right volume and a big TV showing the live Dodger game, which the kids loved. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa had the perfect level of spice for everyone at the table. The kids ordered horchatas and were excited about the unlimited refills (something you don't always see at other restaurants!). The drinks for the adults were just as impressive. My wife's watermelon margarita on the rocks was perfectly made. It was not overly sweet or syrupy like at some places. Our friends had the "El Jefe" margaritas, and they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila! For dinner, everything was a hit. The kids loved their meals. Albóndigas soup, shrimp tacos, and street tacos--all served with rice and beans. The adult dishes were just as good. The carne asada arrachera was cooked perfectly, the chile verde was full of flavor, and my chicken mole was delicious with a great balance of spicy and sweet without being overwhelming. The portions were very generous, and everything came with rice, beans, and both corn and flour tortillas. The only small thing I would've preferred differently was the chicken in my mole. I personally would've liked a leg and thigh instead of sliced chicken breast but the dish was still very good overall. What really stood out was the hospitality. At the end of the meal, Washington offered us "holy water"-house tequila shots on the house--and it wasn't cheap tequila either! Then after the bill came, he surprised us again with another round of "holy water". That level of generosity and care really impressed us. We also learned that the restaurant has been there 20+ years and is family-run by him and his siblings, which made the experience feel even more personal. You can tell they have a loyal customer base--one couple even said, "See you tomorrow Washington!" The only feedback we'd offer (coming from a customer service background) is that we noticed a few guests waiting at the entrance without being greeted, and one couple actually left the restaurant. A simple "Welcome, we'll be right with you" would go a long way. That said, it didn't take away from our experience. Overall, amazing food, great service, generous portions, and a welcoming family atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu!

I went on a taco run yesterday to try to find the best taco in Whittier…read more Started off the run with a keto taco mixed with asada and al pastor and then a regular tripa taco. Keto taco - toasted/grilled cheese instead of a regular tortilla - needed to be done a little more on one side as the cheese wasn't quite toasty enough to stay in place to slightly resemble the shape of a taco. Bit hard to eat, covered my hands in grease. Asada tastes almost boiled, and this being my 2nd or 3rd time getting the Asada here, it consistently tastes like it was boiled and not grilled. Unsure of meat quality or preparation, but there are no grill marks and it's a bit chewy. Same with the al pastor. Tripa taco was bizarre. Strips of flat skin instead of the usual roundish, cylindrical shape of tripa (intestine). Usually a saltier, fattier meat than asada, which is my preference but the one here was lacking in flavor and the texture threw me off a bit. Tripa can be chewy - unless requested extra done, which is how I normally order it - but there was no saving this tripa. I think it needs to be sliced differently, the cuts made it inedible. Brother shared some of his chorizo taco and it was the better of the bunch. Red chorizo, TJ style, although it was also lacking a teeny bit in flavor... onions and cilantro to the rescue! Still, mediocre. Salsas were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Don't think the tortillas were homemade. Service was fine, cashier takes your order, dude at the counter was chill and had a friendly attitude. Seating was limited. Mostly bar style seating but the majority was in front of a window and it had so much heat trapped from the glass that it was kind of uncomfortable. Other seats are too close to the bathroom. Good for a quick bite or just pick-up orders. Wouldn't plan a sit down/dine-in visit. Parking is scarce and has really small spots, wouldn't come if you're driving a pick-up truck or anything like that. Food was reasonably priced, which is good, however; the food was lacking so I would not return.
