We chose to eat at El Buen Gusto after a service at Rose Hills and the staff was absolutely amazing! We walked in before the rest of the group arrived and asked if they could accommodate us all in about 30 minutes. They set up the table for us and were ready when we staggered in. Chips and salsa were served and tasted wonderful. I had the carne asada quesadilla which was absolutely delicious! Everyone loved their food choices and seemed happy with the choice of restaurant to go to. The inside is decorated beautifully and relaxing. Even a cute patio outside too but it was so hot outside I'm glad they accommodated us indoors. Parking lot is small so good luck. Service was spectacular! This place is such a cute GEM!! My family and I have been here twice now and we are definitely becoming a "regular", moving forward. The new owner, Aide, makes you feel very welcomed - she's soooo sweet & very accommodating. The staff's service was exceptional, as well. TV in the patio & indoor area - are perfect for sports. The patio was dog friendly during for our first visit - so that was a plus. Now the food and drinks.....are superb!!! First time around, we had a larger party, so we all ordered different entrees. We all picked at each others' plates and not one thing disappointed. The chips and salsa are phenomenal. Their flautas & hard shell tacos - stole our hearts. Even the rice and beans are so yummy! So I was surprised to see that I had reviewed this spot 10+years ago. Well I came back here recently with my daughter and wow! Amazing, tasteful, fresh food! The birria queso tacos are pure heaven in a bite! My 10yr old couldn't stop stating how good they were. I got the red beef enchilada plate...another wow! Absolutely yummy! The sauce was medium thick, deep red (those dry chilies :p) and had explosions of seasoning! The shredded beef was tender and very flavorful! I ordered a small dish of gauce which was super fresh! And good portion for $6. Another A+ was the service! Service was incredible! From when we entered until we left it felt like we were at are favorite family members home :) very welcoming. Came here cause of the reviews and I wasn't satisfied. I ordered the chile relleno and the server asked if I wanted to try it en crema and I said sure, what a mistake. I took a bite and immediately gagged. This was not for me. It tasted like I was eating mayo straight from the jar. Obviously everyone makes it different but this was not eat. Someone from their team saw me and asked if I wanted something else and I said just a quesadilla cause my dad was already eating and they took long. My dad didn't like his burrito either they gave him a wet burrito and he wanted a regular burrito. Our horchata was also super watered down, no flavor. It was also pretty pricey for Mexican food. Came here for a post gym workout meal, and I have to say the burrito was really good. I didn't really like the cafe de olla, it tasted like it had been reheated multiple times and tasted burnt. Because I came during lunch time, they served complimentary chips and salsa. I gotta say the salsa was fresh and had a nice smokey taste to it. Amazing, amazing, amazing! Only downfall was online everything shows they don't open until 10, but good for us that it was a lie. We got there at 9:30 and we were so happy to hear they open at 9am despite the online hours. The cafe de la olla, steak and eggs (the potatoes were the best according to my son), chicharron with eggs, chilaquiles, just about everything was amazing that our table ordered. The service was so great, really nice and accommodating to our group of 11 and made sure to treat us line we were visiting our uncle's house. The restrooms were super clean and really sweet with feminine hygiene products and smell good lotion and sprays. It just felt like home and we were so happy to have found El Buen Gusto. From the moment you approach the patio, you can tell the place is well cared for and thought out. Very clean inside with lots of energy put in by the owner to create an experience and place to relax and have a meal. When I complimented her on how the place looks, she said it's her mission to make it feel that way. The first thing I noticed was their outdoor patio frames with lots of greenery! Small tables outside are very welcoming. Interior decor is all new with a basketry theme. So charming! I was warmly greeted by the owner and waitress and was seated immediately. My order of Tacos de Camaron was so delicious! It was two tacos of tempura shrimp in warm corn tortillas with mayo chipotle dressing, cabbage, cheese, and pico de gallo. So good! I had some super tasty homemade Mexican food at El Buen Gusto in Whittier. The chips came out warm and crunchy, and that smoky salsa? Incredible! I polished off the chips and salsa right away. Then we kicked things off with an amazing tamal. Seriously, I've tried tamal before, but this one was on another level. It had layers of crema, pico de gallo, cabbage, and queso fresco piled on top. Light and delicious! For my main course, I went with a carne asada wet burrito that was perfectly seasoned and slathered in sour cream and salsa verde. It's so good! The price is about 15% more then other places but the quality of meat and serving portions substantiate the pricing. I had an enchilada plate with a empanada and oh man it was delicious. I was super full but ate everything. My wife had the Asada burrito and she enjoyed it. She said the meat tasted like ribeye and seasoned really well. FYI: the albondigas soup is a hidden gem. Wow, I must say the food quality, presentation and overall feel of the place has greatly improved by the new ownership. This time we ordered the shrimp cocktail, fish tacos and chicken flautas. The shrimp cocktail was amazing, huge, delicious fresh shrimp and the sauce had so much flavor, i didn't need to add anything to it The fish tacos are amazing, we got them the last time I came and I wanted them again. This time we tried the chicken flautas and they were super tasty as well. The aqua frescas with cucumber and lime are the bomb, very fresh and it's not super sweet which I really like. It's a huge jar and I could have had more. Seriously, if you have not been here in the past few months, then you probably have not had the food from this new owner. I'd highly recommend it. Perfectly seasoned and they ever have vegetarian options which is so hard to find. Simply the best, I cannot recommend them enough . You have to come try.
