Red beef enchilada plate with no sour cream. Gauce on the side and Birria tacos in the background
    Crystal A.

So I was surprised to see that I had reviewed this spot 10+years ago. Well I came back here recently with my daughter and wow! Amazing, tasteful, fresh food! The birria queso tacos are pure heaven in a bite! My 10yr old couldn't stop stating how good they were. I got the red beef enchilada plate...another wow! Absolutely yummy! The sauce was medium thick, deep red (those dry chilies :p) and had explosions of seasoning! The shredded beef was tender and very flavorful! I ordered a small dish of gauce which was super fresh! And good portion for $6. Another A+ was the service! Service was incredible! From when we entered until we left it felt like we were at are favorite family members home :) very welcoming. Restroom was marvelous clean and decorated! We can't wait to come back.. possibly today :D

Came here cause of the reviews and I wasn't satisfied. I ordered the chile relleno and the server asked if I wanted to try it en crema and I said sure, what a mistake. I took a bite and immediately gagged. This was not for me. It tasted like I was eating mayo straight from the jar. Obviously everyone makes it different but this was not eat. Someone from their team saw me and asked if I wanted something else and I said just a quesadilla cause my dad was already eating and they took long. My dad didn't like his burrito either they gave him a wet burrito and he wanted a regular burrito. Our horchata was also super watered down, no flavor. It was also pretty pricey for Mexican food. I still was charged for the chile relleno even though they took it back. Btw we were also the only one people there at that time.

Came here for a post gym workout meal, and I have to say the burrito was really good. I didn't really like the cafe de olla, it tasted like it had been reheated multiple times and tasted burnt. Because I came during lunch time, they served complimentary chips and salsa. I gotta say the salsa was fresh and had a nice smokey taste to it. I really enjoyed the outside seating area, and their decor for the valentine season was super cute.

What a lovely space to arrive to after a looong day at Rose Hills in the worst traffic for Dia de Muertos! El Buen Gusto welcomed our party with a clean, quiet and inviting space for our tired feet and grumbling stomachs. Best of all, were the starters and that so basic and essential of Mexican cuisine: chips and salsa -- crunchy warm chips and flavorful salsa (ask for hot because the standard is for those who don't dare...) House Horchata -- you can taste it :) Latte!? Yes, they make them and they're great! Flautas -- yum, yum, yum, .... and, can do with less crema. Menudo and Pozole from family got two thumbs up! Next time im in Whittier -- im there! And to the locals -- you're lucky!

We have lived down the street from this restaurant for years and finally stopped in. What a hidden gem. Very cozy feel on the inside. Food was delicious. Very authentic. Separates itself from your typical Mexican restaurant. Prices were reasonable. Will definitely come back.

Very comfy and very cozy! You can come here for a nice date or bring the family!

El Buen Gusto absolutely lived up to its name! I ordered the tostada and the enchilada de pollo with the best mole, and both were outstanding. The tostada was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared, while the mole had a rich, authentic taste that was easily one of the best I've had. Every bite was packed with flavor, and you can tell they take pride in their food. Great service, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere made the experience even better. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu. Highly recommend!

So this was our first time trying this place out. And finally decided to check it out. The ambiance was very relaxing, intimate, and clean. The service was amazing and very informative. Thank you Haydee and the team for giving us great service, recommendations, and accommodations. The food was absolutely delicious! We had the chilaquiles (the green ones) with steak and the torta milanesa. We will definitely be back and absolutely recommend this place!

They really remember who the regular customers are. Ambiance is great! Nice songs playing in the background. My local fave place to eat! El Buen Gusto is so good they serve authentic Mexican food with the best service! The new interior is so cute and perfect for date nights. I got the beef flautas and they were delicious. A friend got the torta and fajitas and they were so so good! If you're in Whittier you need to stop by! I am excited to come back to try their breakfast & many coffee options (mochas, cappuccinos, frappes). Thanks El Buen Gusto for being a gem in Whittier!

This is the menu, Great food real authentic Mexican food. Prices are very reasonable, the food is so delicious we keep coming back.

Great place to enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. Awesome place with really authentic Mexican dishes with a twist. Very clean and awesome service.

The food here is honestly AMAZING everything was fresh, flavorful, and made with so much care. Definitely worth checking out!

I have to give this place the recognition it deserves The food here is honestly AMAZING everything was fresh, flavorful, and made with so much care. You can tell there's real passion behind every dish. What made the experience even better was the owner, who was super kind, welcoming, and truly involved. It's rare to see that level of dedication and heart. It honestly surprised me that this place isn't more packed, because it absolutely should be. If you're looking for great food and genuine hospitality, this spot is definitely worth checking out

Friendly staff and prompt service. The unfortunate negative is it's location and I'm referring to parking. There must be 8 business crammed into this lot. With a bar to the right and a laudermat on its left finding a parking spot is like winning the lotto. Now layer in one driveway and you have to make a 3 point turn just to navigate to leave. The short answer is I will absolutely go back to this place as long as there is a parking space to be had.

Even though the restaurant is small and busy, we were seated right away, which was a great start. Our waiter Washington, was fantastic, friendly, attentive, and made our whole experience even better. The atmosphere was perfect too. They had music playing at just the right volume and a big TV showing the live Dodger game, which the kids loved. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa had the perfect level of spice for everyone at the table. The kids ordered horchatas and were excited about the unlimited refills (something you don't always see at other restaurants!). The drinks for the adults were just as impressive. My wife's watermelon margarita on the rocks was perfectly made. It was not overly sweet or syrupy like at some places. Our friends had the "El Jefe" margaritas, and they definitely didn't skimp on the tequila! For dinner, everything was a hit. The kids loved their meals. Albóndigas soup, shrimp tacos, and street tacos--all served with rice and beans. The adult dishes were just as good. The carne asada arrachera was cooked perfectly, the chile verde was full of flavor, and my chicken mole was delicious with a great balance of spicy and sweet without being overwhelming. The portions were very generous, and everything came with rice, beans, and both corn and flour tortillas. The only small thing I would've preferred differently was the chicken in my mole. I personally would've liked a leg and thigh instead of sliced chicken breast but the dish was still very good overall. What really stood out was the hospitality. At the end of the meal, Washington offered us "holy water"-house tequila shots on the house--and it wasn't cheap tequila either! Then after the bill came, he surprised us again with another round of "holy water". That level of generosity and care really impressed us. We also learned that the restaurant has been there 20+ years and is family-run by him and his siblings, which made the experience feel even more personal. You can tell they have a loyal customer base--one couple even said, "See you tomorrow Washington!" The only feedback we'd offer (coming from a customer service background) is that we noticed a few guests waiting at the entrance without being greeted, and one couple actually left the restaurant. A simple "Welcome, we'll be right with you" would go a long way. That said, it didn't take away from our experience. Overall, amazing food, great service, generous portions, and a welcoming family atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try more of their menu!

I immediately asked the waitress if it was missing the toppings, and she said "yes it's missing sour cream." She left and came back and said there was no more sour cream. A Mexican restaurant without sour cream? Oh! really wish I would've known that before ordering because, like I said, I love my flautas drenched in toppings. I would've ordered something else had I known there was no sour cream. I requested some extra guacamole to make up for the lack of sour cream. With guacamole and the salsa that comes with chips, it still tasted pretty good but my heart was wishing I had sour cream and tons of cheese. It was definitely a tasty meal but was a HUGE miss on the lack of toppings, which is what I crave when I order flautas. I've never seen flautas look so sad and lonely. The rice and beans were okay. I went on a taco run yesterday to try to find the best taco in Whittier…read more Started off the run with a keto taco mixed with asada and al pastor and then a regular tripa taco. Keto taco - toasted/grilled cheese instead of a regular tortilla - needed to be done a little more on one side as the cheese wasn't quite toasty enough to stay in place to slightly resemble the shape of a taco. Bit hard to eat, covered my hands in grease. Asada tastes almost boiled, and this being my 2nd or 3rd time getting the Asada here, it consistently tastes like it was boiled and not grilled. Unsure of meat quality or preparation, but there are no grill marks and it's a bit chewy. Same with the al pastor. Tripa taco was bizarre. Strips of flat skin instead of the usual roundish, cylindrical shape of tripa (intestine). Usually a saltier, fattier meat than asada, which is my preference but the one here was lacking in flavor and the texture threw me off a bit. Tripa can be chewy - unless requested extra done, which is how I normally order it - but there was no saving this tripa. I think it needs to be sliced differently, the cuts made it inedible. Brother shared some of his chorizo taco and it was the better of the bunch. Red chorizo, TJ style, although it was also lacking a teeny bit in flavor... onions and cilantro to the rescue! Still, mediocre. Salsas were ok, nothing out of the ordinary. Don't think the tortillas were homemade. Service was fine, cashier takes your order, dude at the counter was chill and had a friendly attitude. Seating was limited. Mostly bar style seating but the majority was in front of a window and it had so much heat trapped from the glass that it was kind of uncomfortable. Other seats are too close to the bathroom. Good for a quick bite or just pick-up orders. Wouldn't plan a sit down/dine-in visit. Parking is scarce and has really small spots, wouldn't come if you're driving a pick-up truck or anything like that. Food was reasonably priced, which is good, however; the food was lacking so I would not return.

My friend and I got their Mimosa flight special, Pina Colada, Strawberry pancakes, surf and turf, and Madres Chilaquiles and all were a 10/10! They even had music playing in the background and it was a vibe! The interior was very pink and they had beautiful murals all throughout the restaurant. Lots of seating and there is 2 hour parking in front! Definitely going to be back at either location :)

Madres Brunch is such a fun spot if you love creative Mexican-inspired brunch and specialty coffee…read more There were so many interesting options on the menu that we ended up ordering quite a spread to share. We tried: * Iced Latte Flight: Horchata, Abuelita, Pistachio, and Mazapan * Hot Mazapan Latte * Mimosa Flight * Mole Chilaquiles * Birria Benedict * Huevos Rancheros * The Journey Pancakes The Hot Mazapan Latte was our favorite coffee and something I would absolutely order again. The iced flight was also a great way to sample several of their flavors without having to commit to just one. For food, the Birria Benedict was the standout and easily our favorite dish. I loved the Mexican-inspired spin on a brunch classic, and the rich birria paired so well with the eggs and Benedict preparation. We also really enjoyed getting a mix of savory dishes with the Mole Chilaquiles and Huevos Rancheros before finishing with The Journey Pancakes for something sweet. Overall, Madres Brunch offers a huge variety of creative food and drinks, especially if you enjoy Mexican flavors and fun twists on traditional brunch. Definitely a place where I recommend coming hungry and ordering several things to share! Excellent service, as well.
