Came here for the chicken soup! (sopa de pollo). That was the best part. I also got a side of yellow rice and veggies. They were unexpectedly served cold. They still tasted good, but I wished they would have served them hot or warmed them up or even asked to see if the customer would prefer them to be served hot. The yellow rice also came with pieces of corn. The soup has an optional garnish of scallions and cilantro. In my opinion that makes it even better. Many people came in to eat. Some would get coffee at DD next door and then come in for the food. They have a bunch of tables and chairs to seat yourself/selves at. Pricing is decent. I would say that cleanliness is at your discretion. No one cleans the tables after you get up and go. Happy eats! read more

They took over the space next door and turned it into a space where people can sit and enjoy life over food and coffee. It's less of a dive and more of a full fledged restaurant with seats and tables. * There's more people. Not just employees bustling each morning / afternoon, but now a line of people that come here on the daily. There's never a moment that I've passed by where there wasn't a ton of peeps. And not just any one but locals who are regulars to the place. * Their offerings have gotten better in time and the food has really expanded. Their tres leches is fire, along with the various pastries / empanadas that sell out by the early evening. I think their daily hot food specials are quite underrated, as they have a number of pastas, stews, meats, and even seafood. Everyone should have an empanada, a Colombian tamale, and a hot plate at the very minimum, before leaving here. The morning aroma from the freshly baked goods is downright intoxicating. * The service is sweet. Many of the ladies behind the counter are full of energy and quick to help folks. The manager Fanny from this bakery is the worse. In two occasions, she's been very disrespectful. I bought a fruit tart for my child and some of the fruit was rotten, when I informed the manager to please exchange it she indicated that she can't exchange it because I will say that the other fruit is rotten too and she gave me back the money with a very bad attitude. last night, I purchased a chicharrón that had hair on it, when I informed her to exchange it, she refused and with a very bad attitude once again she told one of the girls there just to give me back the money and thew out the food in the garbage. She is very disrespectful and doesn't even care that I was with children. 3.5 Stars! Every time I'm the neighborhood and craving cheesecake, I stop by. Their bakery goods always look amazing and the portions are very generous. On this visit, I got a piece of cheesecake and strawberry shortcake. The first bite of the shortcake was delish...the rest, not so good. It was not fresh at all; bordering on stale - what a disappointment! Had I eaten it there, I would have brought it back, but I got it to go. The strawberry cheesecake, however, was great. On this occasion, there was a mysterious treat wrapped in banana leaves, right in the bakery dept! Turns out, that was a gigantic tamale! Definitely not a sweet but they stored it in the refrigerated bakery section. I was intrigued and bought one ($9) to have another day. I was told to boil it in water for about 10-15 minutes to reheat. This bakery has lots of cooked food! There's a huge steam table full of savory dishes and they all looked fantastic. I've never had their cooked food but have had their empanadas, which were fantastic (especially with their hot sauce)! One of these days, i will stop by for their food! Onto their gigantic tamale - I reheated the tamale per their instructions the next day and wow, what a meal! It was definitely big enough for 2 ppl to share. It was delicious but needed some hot sauce (my personal taste). Inside the tamale were lots of carrots and peas, potatoes, chicken, pork and beef. What a meal! (check out my photos). This bakery/restaurant has no waiter service but is very spacious and has a lot of tables. Counter service was very friendly and helpful. There is a slight language barrier but if you're ok with just pointing to what you'd like, and don't have a lot of questions, then it's all good! I've never had a problem with my order. I've been here twice now when working in sunnyside. This Colombian bakery is close to the 46th St/Bliss St 7 Train stop and is very convenient. I usually stop in for the empanadas when I am low on commuter fuel. For $2.00 you cant beat the ultra soft pastries filled with whatever your heart desires. The chicken was extremely dry but I do enjoy the spinach empanadas here. Totally different texture ! There's a hot buffet with lots of Colombian classics and soups. What's up with your prices? I used to come to this place every morning for empanadas and other treats but lately I have been very disappointed. I understand that inflation sucks but come on; $7 freaking dollars for a piece of tres leche cake which by the way it was dried as hell. Tres leches are meant to be moist from the bottom up and that was not the case with this cake. I got some shrimp and rice as well and when I come home there were only 4 sad shrimps and it cost me $16 bucks if I'm not mistaken. $16 dollars for a fried of rice and 4 shrimps. Empanadas also went up. Basically it seems that everything went up there. If you walk a couple of blocks down to la Vienesa, you'll find similar type of food relatively at a lower price. The savory foods are delicious and fresh, and kept warm by a steam table. The service is quick and it's easy to order. The only tip I would give is to make sure the sweet treats are fresh. If you come here early enough, the breads and other pastries are still warm & fresh. One of the most popular breads is the pan de jamón y queso, and if you want it you better be there super early. Early bird gets the worm! I appreciate the size of the ham that they put in the bread. It's not a measly one inch noodle sized piece of ham like other bakeries give. It's a ham and cheese bread & you expect ham, don't you? YOU GET MY VOTE FOR THE HAM AND CHEESE BREAD. Honestly, what pushed me to even write this review was the pan con guava y queso. Omg. That bread actually has guava oozing, and the creamy cheese mingling with the guava, and the outside of the bread has a good bite to it, while the inside is still soft and warm. You can have your breads warmed up if you like. They even ask you if you want it warmed up. Say yes. Trust me. The ladies helping out are friendly & nice. The prices are fair (minimum $7 needs to be spent to use a debit or credit card), the place overall is clean and not cramped, and the actual plates of food come with a decent amount of food (you might even be able to share a plate if you want). Repeat customer of their chicharron and empanadas- both are tasty and not overly expensive. The chicharron is $5, which is a great price for a fatty, chewy strip of pork which you get to choose (I always point to a big one!). The other hot food I have had is fine but not memorable, and sometimes downright bland. The soups are pretty good if you choose right, some days flavorful, other days super watery. Be sure to check the soup first before ordering! Chicken soup is the staple with 2 other rotating ones. The tres leches cake is decent as is the strawberry cheesecake, although lately they have been out of individual slices of cheesecake. The croissants are sizeable but are soft and not flaky at all, not unlike like the ones you get at BJs by the dozen. The pan de bono and buñuelos are a pretty decent option and the coffee is not terrible. Plenty of seating and the employees are patient enough to help you choose your meal. My gripe with this place is that the prices are not consistent when it comes certain items. A croissant one day is not the same as the next. The difference is only a quarter at most so I don't bother arguing but it is still entirely confusing. read more

My family has often come here or ordered food to go for several years now but within the last year we've noticed they've been very sneaky overcharging us for our orders and they never provide a receipt unless you demand one. There was one instance where my husband complained that we were overcharged (and they didn't even give us our full order) and the woman who attended him just rolled her eyes & denied overcharging us. Been here a few times, normally just for the empanadas (which are amazing) but this time we each got a plate of tilapia with rice and beans and it was incredible. Super flavorful and the fish was cooked perfectly. Large portion for the price as it included a choice of beans, lentils or salad on the side. The lady at the counter was so friendly and took time to explain what everything was to me and my girlfriend while other customers ordered in Spanish around us. The first time I tried their "Sancocho de Gallina" (a hearty chicken stew), I was hooked! Count on it every Wednesday and Saturday. But don't just go on those days. Everyday you will find an array of perfectly crafted empanadas--both the traditional fried Colombian and the baked Argentinian styles in meat, chicken, and spinach varieties. Try also the "Arepas de choclo" (a delicious corn pancake) that makes for a full breakfast in itself. Other offerings include an array of meat and chicken dishes and typical Colombian pastries for which they are well-known. The service is warm and friendly.
