If you're on a low-carb or low-glycemic diet, don't torture yourself by going in here. The pan dulce is really really good. The conches are light and fluffy in the middle. I had never had a fluffy conch prior to eating one from here. Before, to me, conches were the armpit of pan dulce. But at El Buen Sabor, they are worthy of being experienced again and again. Came in here to grab some food, thought it would be really quick. What caught my eye was the sign outside that said 50 cent ground beef tacos. Figure I would give it a try since ive walked by the place a few times while going to Stater Bros. It was around noon so you figure this place would be quick about it. Well that wasnt the case, things moved like molasses here. Ended up having to take my food to go. As far as the decor is concerned, this place looks really run down, almost to the point where I would question if they really deserve a A rating. The food tasted alright but the tacos didnt taste any better than taco bell. Overall I wouldnt really recommend this place, nor do I expect to come back. Hidden Gem If you are looking for some authentic Mexican food around Irvine, I suggest giving this place a try. It's in Tustin off Redhill. The sign is very hard to see. However, it's in the same plaza as Stater Brothers. So just look for that. I exited the freeway and my stomach must have done the talking because I wound up making the wrong turn and heading in the opposite direction I should have been heading. By the time I realized it, I decided to go with the "road less traveled" and try something new. That's when I stumbled upon El Buen Sabor and the lovely lady at the counter who recommended to me, the Huarachez. In most of Mexico the word huarache means "sandal," but in the central Mexican uplands a huarachez is a large, oblong bread made of fried masa, often of the blue kind, stuffed with yellowish bean paste, and liberally garnished. Mine had carne asada, cilantro, onions, sour cream and tomatoes. It's a similar to a tostada in a sense except instead of a hardshell, it was a soft fluffy masa bread. Actually, a better comparison would be to that of a Gordita from Taco Bell. For those of you who are not familiar with masa..... Masa is the moist, cream-colored paste resulting from grinding nixtamal. In the old days grinding was done with stone mortar and pestle -- and in some isolated villages it still is. Nowadays it's more typical for it to be ground with a hand-turned, metal grinder mounted on the side of the table, or else to be carried to special shops, usually in or near the mercado, where large electrically powered grinders do the job. Anyways, enough with the history and explanation. Back to the Huarachez. It was awesome. It was a very tasty surprise from the usual burrito or taco. Very flavorful yet simple. I would definitely come back here to sample some of their other items on the menu. Also, I thought I would mention this is also a Bakery. However its services are not limited to the bakery and restaurant. They cater for large parties and even have party supplies for rent. I gotta love hole-in-wall joints like this. I saw this place recently while eating next door at Gyro and Kabobs and I decided to give this place a shot for lunch. $4.50 for 5 tacos and a drink. I was hoping to mix-n-match the taco meat to try their different meats (carne asada, chicken, carnitas, el pastor). However, I was only allowed to pick one meat for all 5 tacos. So I opted for the Carne Asada. As for drinks, they had 4 large plastic jugs filled with tamarindo, melon, banana and something else I didn't quite catch. The banana drink taste the best so I chose it for my drink. The service was ok but could be improved on since it was not busy during my visit. The carne asada tasted pretty good on corn tortilla topped off with cilantro and chopped onions. The staff gave me two salsas and warned me one of them being extremely hot. He definitely was not kidding. I have a huge hankering for hot and spicy food but I definitely underestimated the hot salsa. I mixed the hot and spicy with the mild on the last 3 tacos to give that nice spicy kick but still full of flavor from the mild salsa. The ambiance felt more so a bakery upon which they seemed to add the restaurant portion onto the bakery. I'm always excited when I walk into a potential, winning hole-in-the-wall. El Buen Sabor had all the trappings of a new love in eating: questionable strip-mall location, proximity to check-cashing and water-vending establishments, dilapidated tables, homemade decorations from 1992, and a wall-mounted TV, blaring channels in other languages. Perfect! By now you know it's a combo bakery-and-restaurant, and the place has been here 14 years (who knew?) Nice owners and a decent-sized menu. I ordered the chicken flautas with rice and beans. Sadly, it was another restaurant with canned sodas, so I grabbed my usual Coke. Mexican food and Coke seem to go together like, well, anything good and Coke. If Coke can strip a penny down to its copper in 20 minutes, it can surely cleanse my palette between bites. Before your order comes they give you two kinds of salsa, telling you one is a habanero-mix and is very spicy, and the other is more gringo-ized and milder. I have to tell you, the hot habanero sauce is excellent! If you like spicy-but-flavorful, this one's for you! So good. Fresh and homemade. Points off for stale-ish chips. Sorry, but they were. The beans are very homemade and have a "casero" flavor just like you'd get from mami in the cocina. The rice was good too- nothing to write home about but good. The flautas were uncharacteristically bland; just tasted like chicken. I dressed them up with liberal amounts of the hot salsa and they were much better. Good, but bland is what I'd call them. Overall this is a fair place. I wouldn't drive way out of my way, but the food here is good. After all, 3 stars means not bad, and it is not bad. I was disappointed because it didn't thrill me, but I wouldn't stay away. If you're near here and have a hankerin' for some decent Mexican, give them a whirl. Great salsa. got the carne taco plate for about $7. I actually liked these tacos better than the Original Taco Factory tacos down the road! I also got a plain sugar cookie, which was ok, not amazing but I'm not a big fan of panderias as I've only been to one good panderia which was in Mexico sooooo I may have different standards. One of the owners(?)/cooks (?) even let us sample their fresh toasted baguettes with a bit of olive oil which was fantastic!! Came here with a coworker during lunch. This place is your typical hole in a wall place that serves good food. I had the chicken taco plate which came with two chicken tacos on corn tortilla, rice and beans while my coworker ordered the taco plate with carne asada. Both of us liked our food. They also gave us two bottles of hot sauce to eat with our meal - red sauce and a light orange spicy buttery sauce. Both were good though I preferred the red sauce. It was yummy on the rice and tacos. If you are on a date, I wouldn't say this is the place to impress your date, but if you are craving for some authentic tacos and don't need the fancy decor with mariachi band, come check this place out. read more

First impressions first... sight... as soon as you entered... that smell of old building overwhelmed which in fact it is old place from what you can observe when you walk towards restroom to wash your hands before eating, Im sorry guys, but that was a strong first impression I can't ignore bc visiting a place to eat it's all the whole experience and that was just the beginning, made me LOL a sign (kinda warning tho) over the kitchen door entrance: "we went to kill the cow" (meaning they reeeaally take their time to cook ) there were only 2 ppl eating in one table and one guy in other, it was raining so, I guess that's one reason... while i was waiting for the order i had made over the phone... i saw they have mexican bread displayed then I asked if they have hot chocolate (to pair with a concha) they have not, only coffee and it was done, bc it was 8pm, so I decided it was not a good place to eat sweet bread like I did in La Casa Oaxaca i had visited the previous weeks or La Monarca Bakery where they have that option on their menu (it's easy to get a little spoiled jeje) so I asked for hot rice milk but they only got disposable Styrofoam cups for hot drinks, knowing I'm highly allergic and reactive to that material I asked for other options to which she offered and nicely accommodated to serve it in paper cups which I really appreciated, so, when I finally got my soup to go, due to rain... spontaneously changed my mind and decided to eat there, so i asked if can I please get a plate for me to make the switch plate from black plastic to glass plate, she went inside to ask and nope, waitress/cashier said they don't have glass or different plate to eat there... Not a good place! I ordered a breakfast burrito with chorizo and a concha from the "bakery". I get my concha and it's hard...So it obviously wasn't fresh ugh!!! 10 minutes later... the lady who took my order comes out of kitchen to tell me that they ran out of chorizo! Meal #1 It was a Sunday, and I was forced to go into work. I decided to eat here for lunch, and when I came in I saw they had Menudo on the menu - one of my favorites. I order a bowl of that and an Adobado taco with a Watermelon Agua Fresca. The server brings me some chips and two squirt bottles of homemade hot sauce. He informs me the red one is ery good, but the one is made with habaneros and is very very hot. He wasn't kidding. The sauce was VERY spicy, and had a strong, slightly tangy flavor I really enjoyed. I didn't even bother with the red bottle, I had found my love. The chips were also clearly homemade, lightly salted with a heavy corn flavor. Chips & Salsa - 5 stars The Agua Fresca was VERY good - Ice cold, strong watermelon flavor, and lightly sweet. It didn't taste like they added sugar, just juiced the melon, strained it, and put that over ice. Agua Fresca - 5 stars The Menudo arrives with the taco. They serve the taco traditional style, with meat, onions, and cilantro on a double corn tortilla with a lime wedge, but also give you diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and shredded cheese in case you want to stay gringo. I ate the taco traditional with extra salsa, and mixed the gringo toppings with the Salsa Blanca for my chip dip. The taco was decent - properly seasoned but the pork was just OK. Adobado Taco - 3.5 stars The menudo was really good, heavy on the spice, not too greasy, very traditional with lots of tripe and trotters. I normally like some (but not too much) hominy in my menudo, and this didn't have any, but to be honest it was so good I didn't miss it. Menudo - 5 stars. ...I couldn't wait to return. Boy did that crash and burn... Visit #2 I got a Chile Verde Burrito, Carnitas Taco, and another Watermelon Agua Fresca. The chips this time had the same great flavor, but were quite stale - several days exposed at least. The salsa was the same kick in the ass I remembered. Chips and Salsa - 3.5 stars The Agua Fresca was anything but. It had an old, turning watermelon taste, and was very heavily sweetened - I assume to mask the taste. It was visibly thick with sugar. Watermelon Agua Fresca - 2 stars. The Carnitas Taco was served like their previous taco. The meat was clearly not freshly cooked. It had that 4 day old leftover meat taste, and was still cold in the middle although being fully cooked. Clearly just reheated food from who knows when. Not at all pleasant. 1 star. The Chile Verde Burrito was equally disappointing. I LOVE Chile Verde, and this was blasphemy. The same rewarmed meat from a week before, flavorless mushy beans, with no green chiles or chile sauce detectable by tongue, eyes, or nose. A crushing let down. 1 star. Like Tastes Of Greece, I give it 3 stars, averaging the 4.5 star with the 1.5. I would like to come back for a third visit, but it will be awhile as that last one really disturbs me. Old food reheated? Really not cool. If you decide to come here.... What to get: - Salsa Blanco - seriously good stuff - Menudo - Some of the best I've had in about 13 years What to avoid - Anything with Pork in it - Any Chile Verde item What is a complete gamble: - Chips - will probably taste good, but the freshness is variable - Watermelon Agua Fresca. The center that El Buen Sabor is in is relatively dead. It may be a little hard to find so map it out before you go. The bakery is attached right to the restaurant which has rather limited seating. I didn't actually eat at the restaurant but I ogled at the huge glass cases of pastries. I had came on a mission for the tres leches, which I read about in Orange Coast magazine, but left with an additional container of flan. Who can resist? The flan was delicious with little sugar crystalline on the top and bottom. The texture was a little less giving as it stuck tenaciously to the spoon even after you've popped it into your mouth. The man behind the counter actually asked which version of the tres leches I wanted between the traditional and a wetter one. I got the traditional, which was like Rose M. said: the perfect balance between wet and dry. I was equally dazzled by the whipped cream, which I'm admittedly usually picky about. This rating is for their tacos. Had a craving and Yelped tacos in Tustin. El Buen Sabor came up. I thought they were just a bakery... And that bakery aroma when I walked in... With enough good reviews I went and I tried one each of the Pastor, Carnitas, and Asada taco. That is also the order starting with my favorite. I just went there again and got 2 Pastor and 1 carnitas. I noticed them tasting a little different but that's what you get when it's "home" made and made daily. The first carnitas taco had the meat kind of crispy which I really like. This time it was juicier and soft which was good too. I would definitely recommend to try them (Specially the Pastor) and always, decide for yourself. The normal hot sauce was the bomb! Really good. Scared to try the hot hot. If you want atmosphere, get your food to go and eat at the park around the corner. The restaurant is clean inside, just old. Old tables, old paint and old decor. Incredibly authentic. Home made breads, cakes, and hard to find seasonal items like roscas and pan de muertos. Excellent tres leches. As for the food, huge menu and I can honestly say I've never been unhappy with food here. Hands down one the most authentic and consistently delicious Mexican Restaurants in Orange County. Place is nothing fancy .. and neither is the food. It's decent and for what you get (volume) it's a good bang-for-ur-buck ratio. They have lots of food to choose from, but because the interior setting is just too distracting, I doubt I'd come here again (I know so many more Mexican places to eat at). The vinyl seats were old and sticky and the ac wasn't working (at least the time i went). And the glaring head lights and exhaust fumes from the parked cars just outside didn't help. I was sick the other day and was craving some heart warming Menudo, so sent my other half to go and pick it up for me. From what he said, the place is not much to look at, but the people are extremely friendly and the value is great! Steak Tacos (2/5) - I will be back to give this one another go, but unfortunately it was a total miss when I went. The meat was dry and flavorless. The habanero house sauce was the only saving grace on this. Menudo (3/5) - I am new to the menudo game, so take my review here with a grain of salt. I've had my coworker's menudo and menudo from inside a gas station out in Rancho Cucamonga, and this was my least favorite. This is another item I'll have to give another go at, along with their pozole. Torta (5/5) - By far our most favorite item of all, minus the beans. We'll definitely be back just for this, sans beans. I really really wanted to love this place because of the price and convenient location, but it kinda fell a little short on my expectations. Food was delicious. It's kinda hard to find authentic street tacos cooked to order in the Irvine/Tustin area. The owner was super nice and was not in a rush to get me to order. Since only one other customer was in at the time she talked to me about the different kinds of sweet bread that they bake. The Al Pastor was delicious and my Co Worker got the Asada taco which said was delicious as well. Since they cook the food when order it took about 10 minutes for my tacos to be ready. Make sure you call ahead as if it gets packed it will take a slight wait. Spend the extra change an grab yourself a Habanero salsa as it is quite but still delicious. For Dessert you have a choice many good looking pastries. I went with the Conos with custard filling. The outside was flaky and crispy with custard all the way through. I dropped by here after picking up a few things at the Stater Bros. just a few units next to this place. I thought it was a customer with her grandson here but it was actually someone who worked there and she was friendly, I guess the workers went on a lunch break and I don't blame them because I was basically doing the same thing. Strange how that works, anyhow, I decided to place an order here. It was empty, but that worked in my favor as my order was done quickly. Normally it sounds like a bad thing when your food is prepared quicker than a fast food place, but they actually made the order perfect. If anything I'd complain they served yellow rice, but I actually enjoyed it so no complaints here. Soon as I finished most of the meal I had to head out, can't have those groceries in the car too long. The lady was nice to talk to, I guess this place has been around 18 years, and I got to take my leftovers home. I guess people could complain about the appearance, otherwise the food was made right and you can take it home. I sort of liked the display they had, a few Tommy Lasorda pictures reminded me of some places I've enjoyed around Los Angeles. The back area for the restrooms was confusing, no lights were on around the back so I wasn't sure if I was even allowed there until the worker told me it was fine. Parts of the place could use new paint, maybe be slightly remodeled only based on other restaurants being all fancy looking. The restrooms were clean, just a lack of paper towels and minor stuff that can be fixed up within minutes, same with a few items being stored in the back. I would recommend a napkin dispenser and a trashcan where the customers can throw things away. Otherwise, that was the best damn chicken and mole I've ever had from a restaurant. I thought the service was solid, this is authentic Mexican food so be aware that they put the right spice to it. Next time I'll have to try a few other items on the menu. I gotta start reviewing the good places I eats at more often... But the problem is, when a place is amazing the review can take forever to write. However when a place sucks, it takes less time. Which leads me to my next victim. Actually, since I was the one who paid for this poor quality food, I am actually the one who was victimized! El Buen Sabor... which I believe translates to " the good flavor" ? In all fairness I can't speak on behalf of the bakery so here is a quicky rundown of what I ordered and why it sucked. Carne Asada Tacos- Crappy, chewy carne that tasted stale and flavorless. Not even the salsa could save this. 1/5 Stars Carnitas Tacos- Good carnitas are easy to make, Excellent carnitas are moist, tender and if they know any better they will leave some chunks of fat on the carnitas and mix it into the tenderized meat. This stuff was dried and looked like shredded wood chips. 1/5 stars Flautas- Served hot out of the fryer, stuffed with dried out and flavorless chicken. 1/5 stars Chips and Salsa- Chips were stale- yuck 1/5 stars. Salsa- Best part of the meal, but only average at best. 3/5 stars Huaraches- First time having this, don't know what this is supposed to be like. But what I can describe is: some kind of flat tortilla looking thing with more of their bland, chewy meat, a layer of beans and some kind of sauce, then drowning in .....SOUR CREAM? Sour Cream has very little, if any place on authentic Mexican food. Then a layer of shredded Iceberg lettuce and diced tomatoes. It took forever for the lady to do it she was really nice but the reason for that was because everything was fresh. The meat was fresh the bun was still warm. I lucked out on finding this place. As New Year's just passed, I've searched a lot for good places to cure a hangover. El Buen Sabor got mentioned as a good place due to its menudo. I have never had menudo, so now I was doubly intrigued. One, what is menudo, and two, will El Buen Sabor be good? Suprisingly this place is hard to find. Its in the corner of a mall, and the way the lights and the sign is situated, it looks closed even when its open. The shop is both a bakery and a restaurant. Evidently, this place won awards from the Orange County magazine as a best of. El Buen won for "best of cakes" for their tres leches cake. It was sold out when I was there, so a return visit is necessary. I ended up trying this very simple pastry (sweet bread with butter and sugar spread on top) but it really hit the spot. I enjoyed the pastry immensely. Evidence of how popular the bakery is the number of customers that stopped in, and this was around 8 o'clock. For their bakery! I think around 10 people came through to buy pastries that late at night. However, much to my dismay, menudo is only served on saturdays and sundays. Sure, I was disappointed, but since I came to try something new, I ordered a carne asada huesterevez (sorry, not sure I spelled that right), which is steak, lettuce, and sour cream on a homemade tortilla. Wow! I normally don't eat quickly, but I finished that thing fast. I think the register lady was even suprised how quick I ate my meal. The meat was especially tender, and that made all the difference. Overall, El Buen Sabor could be described as hidden treasure, maybe like a gold coin, not necessarily the titantic. (If you go you will understand) I ordered the chicken Torta. , it did take quite a while to get my order, however it gave me a chance to speak with the owner (Female with white hair). She said that they have been their 16 years, so that made me feel pretty good. She gave me suggestions for the next time I return and I certainly will! The Torta was good! read more

El Buen Sabor is a little hole in the wall Mexican cafe with traditional mexican food, cakes, and pastries. Not much sitting room but I dont mind ordering to go since I live nearby. There Tres Leches cakes are very good, rich in flavor, and affordable. I ussually end up buying one for family and work parties and they are always a hit. Another favorite of mine are the PanDulce... get there first thing in the morning and you'll see it's all made super fresh and tastes delicious ! (100 times better than buying it at a supermarket). Oh my god. I was somewhat hesitant before I came to this place but then I remembered I was in Tustin and nobody in Tustin knows what real Mexican food is like. Thank god I came in. Went with my usual taster trifecta, Assad, Al Pastor, and (my new substitute for pollo) Carnitas. First thing I did was go for the rice and beans, phenomenal. Then I went in for the kill and boy was I psyched. The greatest home cooked Mexican food you are going to get without actually going into someone's house. This was hands down the best experience with a Mexican restaurant I have had in OC. I can't speak on the bakery and to be real, I don't care what they do over there. This review is solely for the tres leches (because that's what all the hype on this place is about). I don't know, maybe there's just something wrong with me, but I really didn't like it. It was so cakey and lacking that certain, how you say, je ne sais quoi that makes a tres leches a tres leches. Ever since my first bite of tres leches back in AP Spanish long long ago, I've been searching near and wide for the perfect replacement. cant get enough of the al pastor here. the tacos are friggin awesome. the tortillas are pippin hot. the habenero sauce is gonna make you sweat. and the salsa roja borders mild/spicy. they got mexican coca cola in the glass bottle. they also sell the mexican ice cream that the mexican dude pushes his cart with. goodness, just thinking about the al pastor makes me salivate. great hidden find in tustin. everything is made fresh while you wait. read more

I ordered a tres leche cake for my company's cinco De mayo party and was shocked at how much everyone loved it! We ordered the smaller sheet cake that feeds 25 and it was more than enough for our company of 35! Will definitely be coming back for another in the future. The name of this place, literally translated, means "the good flavor". It's not an understatement. The food here is cheap, delicious, and quick to get to you. Mexican cuisine is my absolute favorite, so I know good Mexican food when I taste it. I've had just about everything on the menu here, and it's all fantastic. I had ordered a tres leches cake with strawberries and peaches , came back a week later and wasn't ready instead she gave me a tres leches cakes and like 4 bananas and a handful of strawberries . She said I could juts slice them on the slices when serving them WTH . She was also scratching her head as we where talking and I could see dandruff falling on her counter .
