I'm going to start this review by saying we go here often and we love the food. Quality is great and flavor is there. The drive through can take a bit , but it's not fast food so that has never bothered me. My one gripe, and it's enough for me to knock 2 stars, is their stinginess with salsa. Only Mexican restaurant I've ever been where they are vehemently stingy with their salsa. Order chips and pay close to $5 after tax and you get a solid amount of chips, but they only allow you 2 salsa and half the time they barely fill the salsa containers (honestly sometimes like 1/4 full which is less than an ounce of salsa). Again, it's literally the only Mexican food restaurant I've ever been to that limits you on salsa and it's not even reasonable. And this last time I went finally sent me over the edge because they charged me extra for salsa because I wanted more and I finally agreed to just pay up only to get home and realize half the containers were less than half full. Honestly unacceptable. And on top of that I'm a frequent customer that will tip a few bucks every time even though I'm not dining in and I continuously get screwed on the salsa. read more

WOW. Stumbled upon this place on the Seed Oil Scout app and I cannot stop raving about it. This has to be one of the best meals I've had in OC in a while. Chef has crafted an exceptional menu with perfectly balanced and layered flavors. We got the chicken taco, nachos (secret menu item - thanks to our cashier!!), breakfast burrito, and steak tacos. I got to grab a flan and churros + chocolate ganache with two of my unnies. WOW! Both deserts were so Good. We all agreed the flan is nothing like we've ever had before. Super cute spot! I really enjoyed Taco Mesita's late-night happy hour, you can't beat the $2 margaritas! Their Taco Tuesday menu is great too. I stopped by after a Pilates class around 9 p.m. and ordered two baby bean and cheese burritos, a margarita, and some rice to take home. Everything was delicious. The only downside was the inconsistency with the salsa policy. I sat at the bar by the register and noticed multiple people coming up to ask for salsa. Some customers were given salsa for free, while others were told it was $0.50 per cup. I was told it cost $0.50, which was totally fine, but the salsa I paid for wasn't included with my order. When I went back to ask for it, I was told I had to pay another $0.50, so I did. Right after me, the customer behind me just asked for two more salsas and was given both for free. I overheard more than one customer express frustration about the salsa, which made me tune in. I don't mind paying for salsa if that's the policy, I just think it should be applied consistently so customers know what to expect. Taco Mesita is located near old town Tustin. They have a drive thru and a small outdoor patio. This restaurant gives me palm spring vibes aesthetically. We dined on a Saturday around 12pm. Brunch ends at 1pm so we just made the cut off but so glad we did. The French toast was fluffy and absolutely delicious. For $8.75 you honestly couldn't go wrong. I also really enjoyed the breakfast taco ($4) the potatoes were crisp and the eggs were solid. Hubs ordered the steak tacos($6) which were also great. The steak was charred but tender, flavorful as well. The only miss was the pollo burrito. The chicken was shredded and just didn't taste great. I was pretty disappointed and only took 3 bites. Listen before you go rushing there! The intention is amazing! There's a lot of thought when it comes to the health design, but as a foodie it needs just a little more juice and depth (umami) with the flavor. Beans needs to be softer and moist. Make the real beans for folks craving really good homemade beans w lard (or coconut oil) and do the dry and hard beans for people who need ultra clean. Good homemade beans means everything else will be authentic. The food here is Americanized but w excellent comfort w cheeses, salsa and tallow chips. So much room to grow! They need a little more tweaking and it will be golden. We need the owners presence and have the cook not follow rules to exact. Needs more fluidity to get those flavors and popularity. read more
