The best birria de chivo ever
    Alma C.

The best birria in the Pomona area never disappoints. Small, humble and full of flavor. Cash only and be nice it's small but full of flavor so wait times may differ.

Amazing birria served here. Great taste and unlimited home made tortillas. The best birria around. The only down fault is the wait because it's such a small place. Today was not so bad. Great service.

Best birria EVER!! It's a little hole in the wall but food delicious, consomé is awesome! You have to come try it!!!

    Salsas
    Susie G.

On Sunday 6/22 we went to buy 3 lbs. of birria, we were told it came with onions, cilatro, lemons, salsa & consomé. We ordered 3 dozens of tortillas. Our total almost $80. The birria is really good. When we got to our car, I saw 3 little salsas! I told my hubby, can you buy some more salsa. He went back inside, they charged him $6.00 for 3 little salsas. We don't mind. But when we got home, we noticed the salsas were different. If we bought birria, we supposed to get salsa made for it right?? But no! They gave us salsa de tomatillo. They sold us the salsa for the birria!!

Good birria and hand made tortillas. Be ready to wait on weekends because they popular and seating is limited. Worth the wait though.

Sat at the bar while I waited for the of the party of 10 to arrived ordered a drink 4 minutes later family arrived and promptly seated at our table. Our Server Bre was very professional and attentive to our wants and needs give us to time to catch up with each other then took our drink orders and answered questions about the menu. Jakob kept our water drinks filled plus helped with bringing out the hors d'oeuvres which were delicious. Wendy the floor manager stopped by to say hello and check on the birthday girl which I appreciated. Dinner dishes started to arrive and Wow what a work of art, great presentations on every dish and everyone tasting the other's dinner so you know it was a great choice to dine here! Dinner portions were perfect and very tasteful. We received 5 Star Service from everyone involved including Hostess Nataly & Sierra who stopped by to wish a happy birthday to my beautiful daughter! I highly recommend La Popular Restaurant as one of the best in the area! Don R.

Unfortunately, we did have to wait around 30-40 minutes for the buffet to be ready.. we were served mimosas right away, which was nice. Now.. when it came down to the food, one person in my party did find a vey long hair in her chile relllenos. We made it know to our waitress.. which was a sweet person throughout everything!! Then we were told that the chilaquiles and taco station was now open.. so we headed down to it. There was no one to great us at the station. We stood around for around 10 minutes and no one showed up. So at that moment I grabbed a bowel of menudo. Lucky me!! I also grabbed a long hair in my menudo.. my sister in law thought it was a piece of onion but it was not! It was a very long strand of hair. At that point we all tried our best to make the best of it and enjoy the mariachi and mimosas. Then when I returned to the taco/chilaquile station the lady was very rude!! She bluntly asked what we wanted instead of telling us our options.. and I said I'll have 2 chorizo tacos please.. she said where's your plate?? I wasn't aware that I had to give her a plate to serve me. It was an overall horrible experience. Especially because we were literally the only party in the entire place besides the mariachi. The mariachi and our server were the only pleasant people that morning. I will never be returning.

From the moment we walked in, the staff was super welcoming and took the time to walk us through the menu and their specialties, which made ordering a lot easier. The shrimp tacos were a pleasant surprise--not your typical style. They're fried and topped with a flavorful sauce that really sets them apart. Solid choice if you want something a little different. The real star of the show was the Poseidon botana aguachiles. We were originally deciding between the Poseidon and the mixta, but they mentioned they could make the botana a Poseidon style, and that's what we went with. Absolutely delicious--super fresh and packed with flavor. Highly recommend this dish. We also tried the tostada de pescado (size small), which was probably my least favorite. It wasn't bad, just didn't stand out compared to everything else. I'd personally skip it next time. One thing to note--there's a small parking lot that was more full than expected given how many people were inside. It seems like it might be shared with nearby businesses, so just keep that in mind. Overall, great experience, great food, and I'd definitely come back to try more from the menu.
