We stopped in for lunch and it was pleasantly surprising. The service was fantastic and the decor is reminiscent of trips to Juarez, Mexico I'd make as a boy. I had the lunch special numero uno (crunchy taco, relleno, beans and Ensalada) and my wife had her typical Speedy Gonzalez. I'm pretty picky about my chile relleno, and this wasn't bad for a lunch special. If you truly want to gauge the calibre of a Mexican Restaurant the chile relleno is the bellwether item. I've stopped in here on my last two trips to Lake Guntersville. I hate to say it, but the food choices in Guntersville aren't great, so now when I visit the area, El Camino Real is a regular stop. It's almost easy to miss in this shopping center, but once you're there, it's a very pleasant experience. On my two trips, I've had two different servers, and both were very efficient and very friendly. The food is great. And the tables are a lot of fun to look at (my picture didn't come out) but, really, the tables have a fun, artistic look to them. So...not much else to say - just a very gratifying and satisfying dining experience, and I plan to stop in on my next trip to the area. read more

Nice place to eat. With a large and varied menu, it was had to choose my meal. As I was not very hungry, I settled on a hard beef taco and two enchiladas. Yes, not very exciting, but it got the job done. While I waited, i enjoyed the complementary chips and salsa. The salsa was very good with just a hint of chipotle, providing a smoky flavor that kept you wanting more. Pacifico was my beer of choice and it was ice cold, served with lime. My food came out quickly and as very tasty. The enchilada sauce was very good, it may have been a mole sauce. My second beer was a Victoria and is was also very good. Service was fantastic. Phenomenal. Overall a fantastic experience. We dined in at 9pm, fairly late for any restaurant. Quality was impressive considering the late hour. I had the Arroz con Pollo. One of the best dishes I have had in a long time. This food is cooked with love. I am impressed with the flavor it had. The chicken was tender and well cooked, the sauce was delicious, and the rice was cooked to perfection. We are visiting and this was a great welcoming dinner. The staff was fantastic and took great care of us. The restaurant itself has a lot of character and a lot of sights to see. I am impressed...very much so. Keep up the great work! read more

We went there for Sunday lunch. My wife and I both got combination dinners for lunch since the lunch menu isn't available on Sunday. The combination dinners were absolutely wonderful, and the Chile Relleno took me back to the old Camino Reals in South Huntsville in the 90's. The cheese dip was also very tasty. Good salsa as well. Well, the Margarita my fiancee had was EXCELLENT, very tasty (not an overwhelming alcohol content like many Mexican establishments serve). But the Nachos Supreme we ordered was not too good. Meat on top seemed processed, we didn't like the appetizer at all. We were only looking to get a late Afternoon snack before heading back home to Tennessee, so can't say much more about the food other than that. Service was OK, but the decor was quite colorful (see my pic). A weak 3 Star rating, would've been 2 Stars, but the margarita bumped up the rating. read more

My family went to lunch here today 4-20-2024. My husband had a dish with beef, my oldest child had a cheese quesadilla, and my youngest had chicken.. they all returned home at 3 and my youngest that had the chicken has been puking none stop since 4pm. It is now 9:30 & she is still puking. I of course messaged the restaurants Facebook page and they read my message but did not respond. HENCE THIS REVIEW. Learn how to cook chicken and how to be food safe or leave this industry. There's no excuse for getting people sick. I told them not to go to this restaurant before they left, that there were better options in town, but someone else chose the restaurant. The ambiance was so fun with lots of colorful touches and beautiful lighting. The food was incredible! My husband had the Huevos Rancheros con Chorizo & I had a combination plate with 2 tacos, a tamale & an enchilada. We loved everything about El Camino! We arrived around 530 and were seated immediately. When we left around 630 there was a wait. The chips and salsa were great, and so was the cheese dip. My husband and I ordered the chorizo nachos and steak fajita bowl with no bell peppers. The food came out quickly, and it was delicious! We eat Mexican at least once a week and I haven't been that pleased with my meal in a long time. Chavo was our waiter. He was attentive, kind, and humorous! My family and I went to this restaurant for an early dinner and it was fantastic!! The restaurant is well decorated and the staff is very friendly. All of our food was delicious -- I highly recommend the chorizo queso!! I was too excited to eat it to get a picture... Also, if you like spicy, they have a great hot sauce (house made) that was ACTUALLY SPICY! That gets major points from me, a person who often is disappointed by the sauces that claim to be "very hot" or "extremely spicy." I had a taco salad to go. Loaded with lots of chicken and other toppings. Very good. The only thing is that since I ordered it to go, it was wrapped in plastic which I think is what caused the shell to be soft and not crispy. If it wasn't for that, it'd would've been excellent. read more

When in there for dinner last night. Had to wait 10 minutes for them to clear a table and a not very packed house with about 20 tables empty. They brought us a basket of chips and salsa(which consisted of tomato sauce with habanero's and nothing else). When our food came it did look good but it tasted like recycled meatloaf for the beef filling. It had a very strange taste to it. We ate only half of our meal and probably shouldn't have eaten that at all. This is not Mexican food this is something that comes frozen at a grocery store. I wouldn't recommend this food to a starving homeless man. I have eaten monkey on a stick in the Philippines that blew this out of the water. read more

I struggle to contain my excitement when describing El Camino to others. Whenever I return to Guntersvile, I make it a priority to visit this excellent Mexican restaurant. Although I typically get the same items every time (chicken quesadilla or enchiladas) I find myself comparing other Mexican restaurants to this one and none can ever compete. This restaurant is a little hard to spot from the highway, as it is in a shopping center, but worth looking for! The staff was very courteous and provided chips and salsa before I was even seated. I did my usual and requested HOT salsa and it was quickly provided. Their regular salsa is unique with its smokey flavor and would appeal to most people (I like salsa HOT). I ordered a ground beef chimichanga (the dish I always try with new Mexican eateries). It was presented beautifully, covered with queso - guac, sour cream and lettuce on the side (pico was offered and refused as I am allergic to raw onions) and refried beans and Spanish style rice. The food was excellent, the flour tortilla was crisp enough, but not tough and the beef was very well seasoned. The entire dining area was clean and welcoming. The only thing making it less than ideal was the screaming baby of another guest, but restaurants really have no control over that. I highly recommend El Camino Real when in Guntersville and craving a wonderful meal. read more

Typical, but not in a bad way. This place is sandwiched between a pet store and a dollar store in a strip mall and the food is the usual tex mex. It's good though and consistent. The staff has always been very nice and the place feels family oriented. There are a couple of other places nearby but we usually choose this place. read more

Burrito ranchero is really great. Chimichangas not so much. We LOVE LOVE LOVE their salsa. Service is usually great. I read about their wonderful margaritas. I had a large top shelf one on the rocks and it tasted nothing like a margarita. I don't believe there was any alcohol in it at all. Tasted more like a sour war head candy drink. So make sure there is someone there that knows how to mix drinks before spending the $$ on one. I recommend this place over any Tex mex place around. I love their decor. Years ago they had a mariachi band on weekend nights. Wish they still had that. read more

This is our "go to place" for Mexican food. We stick to our favorites and have never been disappointed. Chicken fajita nachos (sometimes minus vegetables), Arroz Con Pollo, and my latest favorite Pollo Azteca. Grande margarita also pretty good. read more
