This place started as a taco truck in 2011 and it was so popular that owner Haig Leonard opened this little gem of a restaurant in 2015. It's a small rustic space with indoor and outdoor seating. The staff are all friendly and efficient. Best of all, the food is fantastic, each item on the menu has rich blend of flavors and textures. We always start with their house-made chips and salsa. And then my fav is the fish taco; white fish marinated in coconut milk and lime, dredged in cornmeal and fried, with a mango salsa, shaved cabbage and sour cream. But there isn't a loser on the menu. We love El Camino for their great service & fresh ingredients plus it's a crowd pleaser for everyone in the family. The chicken/cheese quesadilla is perfect as an appetizer or great entree size for our toddler. The menu is pretty streamlined and I would honestly enjoy seeing some specials appear from time to time, but that simplicity is hard to argue with. Let me just come right out and say that I LOVE Mexican food...like love. Like more than I could possibly love a human baby. That being said, I have been known to frequent any and every local Mexican food joint I could find pretty regularly. So when I'm sitting at home watching the Food Network and the Travel Channel and I see the AMAZING looking food coming out of like these little Taco trucks, I say to myself "I want that". Recently a friend of mine mentioned this place called "El Camion" in next door Woodbury CT. Apparently I had driven by it like at least 785 times on the way to other joints in Woodbury, but never gave it much notice. It was in a building that had been about 50 different places in the past 10 years, so I figured...eh, probably not much happening there. So, I'm often wrong about stuff. Seeing as this friend was a big fat guy, and proud of it, I figured I had to get out there ASAP. ASAP being the next day. As my son and I pulled into the parking lot, we spotted the actual truck that they originally started in...this was going to be great! We also spotted a really sweet looking patio, win again! We walked in the front door and were greeted with what looked like a very simple and straight-forward menu, which I love. Do a few things great, and I don't care if you only do a few things. And if you let me order and pay at a counter, then bring me my food? Seriously, you're doing it right. We decided to keep it basic for the first visit; my portly friend had recommend the chicken and steak tacos, and 2 each of those if we wanted to be filled up. I decided to knock that down to 3 (steak, chicken, pork) and my son went with the same but opted for 2 fish in lieu of the pork. We also figured that the chips and salsa were a no-brainer. Paid our bill and took a seat inside. It was a bit chilly outside, otherwise we would have hit the patio. Next time. Chips and salsa came out quickly and were...mind numbingly amazing. I mean like the freshest chips you can imagine, perfect amount of salt. And the salsa was completely unique and sublime. Amazing. Taco's came out soon after, and before I even took a bite, I knew what was about to happen. Visually, these were the fancy taco truck tacos I had yearned for...and the smell was...intoxicating. Hands down, best taco's we've ever had. Perfectly spiced meat, fresh fish, nice soft homemade shells. There's literally nothing negative I could say about them or this place. Service, selection, location...all right on point. We've been back multiple times and been up and down the menu, it's all good. The service was good. Friendly, helpful counter person. The food was terrible. We ordered 3 pulled pork tacos and 2 marinated flank steak taco. The only seasoning we could taste was vinegar. The meat was cold, as if it had just been taken out of the refrigerator and put on the taco shell. you're better off going to taco bell. this place came highly rated by locals so we gave ht a try but the food was flavorless besides the taste of vinegar. they serve literal coleslaw that on top of everything that tastes like vinegar and nothing else. the food came to the table cold and i asked to get it heated up and it came out still cold. I told the girl at the front the food was still inedible and cold and she explained to me the majority of the toppings were cold so its to be expected.... so you mean to tell me when i order a rice bowl i should "expect the food to be cold"?! thats absolutely insane. should i have also expected tomatoes that were chopped DAYS ago in my food? because they had no bite at all. they were mushy like they had been chopped days ago and then just kept in the fridge for days. also the rice was an overcooked mush. i asked if i could exchange the item because i literally couldn't eat it and she said best she could do is pack it to go. absolutely insane. worst "mexican" food ive ever had. now sitting in another restaurant in the area because after spending almost $60 on four items that were all HORRIBLE we needed to ear elsewhere. The food here is amazing!! True authentic taste. Menu is limited but certainly does not fall short. I went here Saturday afternoon and was the only one there waiting for my take out, the food took a little bit longer than I expected but likely due to being freshly prepared. While the food is amazing my only draw back was that the young guy at counter looked absolutely miserable and it carried through when he took my order, work on that customer service! I love this place! As I've now tried everything on the menu at least once, I can tell you it's all fantastic! The food is fresh and flavorful - each taco has a different combination of flavors that compliments the meat in it very well. The staff is friendly and funny. While you are waiting for your taco's there are some brain-teaser games that you can play with to pass the time. There's also a water bowl outside for your dog to get a drink. This is usually my go-to burrito place in the area. But, this is a disappointing review to write. Two times in the row I've been let down. Last time, I noticed the rice had no taste and it was not cooked all the way. Crunchy rice in a burrito is not a great addition. I would recommend never doing that again. It was way too much rice and not enough of the ingredients. This time, the rice was cooked well, still no taste in it. I mean NO taste to it. It stood out a whole lot because I would say that this burrito was 80% rice, and 20% additional flavors. There were only about four pieces of chicken and no cabbage in it. All rice and no spice. When you consider this with the amount that you pay for the burrito, it's not worth it at all. With a taste like this, I wouldn't recommend El Camion. I'll be finding a new place to satisfy my burrito addiction. Until I get a heads up on El Camion stepping up on their taste quality. When in doubt you can always grab an overfilled awesome tasting bag of chips with salsa. read more

Tonight was great except for the food truck El camion. Have been a mug member since your beginning along with my son. Tonight we waited til 8pm to go out and get the 2 tacos we were supposed to get so others with family members could get theirs 1st. We get up to the truck for the 1st and only time, and he gets his 2 tacos and I get 1. So I asked for the 2nd 1. The woman refused to give me the 2nd, was both rude and a downright witch. The lady behind us stood back waiting for me to get my 2nd like everyone else, and the woman handed the next taco to the man behind her. If it wasn't for the man who was working with this woman, I would not have ever received that taco. What a nasty person she was! And why?! I was pleasant and did nothing wrong! Our whole family loves the food at El Camion. It is so different and so fresh. Instead of plain old lettuce leaves they use shredded eddied cabbage. I tried a soft chicken taco and it was very good. Then I tried the soft Fish Taco and I loved it. My husband, brother-in-law and I went there for tacos. I ordered two fish tacos for my husband. They were so good, he had to go back for a third! Heard about this place by word of mouth and also we saw the food truck on the road. It's a tiny building if you eat there but if you place an order to go the food is still just as delicious. Anyone who is a fan of tacos should try this place. My favorite are the chicken tacos and a chicken quesadilla. My husband likes the pork tacos. We eat here at least once a week during the warmer months. When I have friends and family visiting I bring them here. I haven't heard one complaint yet! Check their hours of operation. Went for lunch on a Wednesday and got there at 11:30 when they open. Very simple but awesome decor inside. Simply order at counter, and food is delivered to your table. They have outdoor seating as well (was raining when we went :(. They do not have A/C but wasn't bad even with the humidity. We got pork, fish and sweet potato tacos...Delish!!! And they serve beer and wine!! Yay!!! Nothing fancy in terms of plates/utensils or glasses. Wine served in Plastic glasses and chips were in paper bags..who cares...was all delicious! The first couple of places we passed were closed, so we were going to hit one of our regular places in town, but chose to try here instead. Everyone we have talked to really like this place, so we decided there was no time like the present. There wasn't many cars in the lot when we pulled up just before noon. That was a good thing since we had already spent 2 hours getting my car registered. When we got inside there was only a few people at the counter trying to decide what they wanted. That was fine with me because I wasn't sure either. I finally opted to get their popular fish taco and pork taco. They have Mexican coke which is with sugar instead of corn syrup. I don't usually do soda but made an exception. My other half went with the pork taco and chicken taco. He got a quesadilla and the Mexican coke as well. We waited off to the side for our order and was told that they'd deliver it to the table when it was ready. We got our beverages in the meantime. It was a nice day so we sat ourselves on the patio. The tables were equipped with several different types of hot sauce to pick from if you want to spice up your meal. I couldn't wait for our food so I could sample the sauces! We didn't wait long before our meal was brought out to us. The tacos were warm with a nice amount of shredded cabbage, tomatoes and meat. My fish taco was delicious! I loved the pork taco as well. Both the fish and pork was so moist. I took turns trying the different sauces on them. I also had a bite of his quesadilla in exchange for him to try a sample of my fish taco. We obviously timed it just right, because the parking lot was filled and a long line of people were waiting to place their orders as we left. I am so glad we finally got to try this place out. I must have been the last person in Woodbury to visit El Camion (which is Spanish for THE Camion). Why it took me so long is I rarely go up Rte 64, where it's located. But, one day, Bestie and I were coming back from Waterbury and realized it was lunch time. The first three places were closed, so we were heading towards one of our go-to places in the middle of town, when I saw El Camion coming up on the road, and said, "Why not?" We got there about 11:45, and were right behind a trio of Millennials who entered just before we did. They ohhhed and ahhhhed over the menu, placed their orders, and went out to sit on the patio, it being a beautiful early September afternoon. We got to the counter, and each ordered a couple of tacos (chicken & pork for me, pork & fish for Bestie). I also ordered a chicken quesadilla, and we both broke our 'no soda' rule when we saw they had Mexican Coke available (it's made with sugar instead of corn syrup - so much better tasting!). I hung around the counter until the guy behind it told me to go sit, that he'd bring our order out. So, Bestie and I are communing with nature on the patio, when our food arrived. I ate the quesadilla first, dipping it into the little cups of salsa and sour cream provided. Bestie was trying to figure out which of the four hot sauces on the table she wanted to splash on her tacos, but accepted a part of my quesadilla in exchange for a bite of her fish taco. I never tried a fish taco before, and I realized that I have been missing one of the most delicious things ever invented. Just the right amount of fish, tomatoes, and red cabbage on a soft tortilla. The pork and chicken tacos were just as good. Let me say this: One taco is not enough, unless you don't eat very much. They're on the small side, but priced accordingly. Two, or even three would make a very filling lunch, depending on your appetite. We tidied up our table, and left through the patio to the parking lot, which was a good thing since there was a line for the counter that went out the door and alongside the building. It was a good thing we got there when we did or we would have had a long wait. We have decided that this is definitely a place in town we want to return to. We decided to try this place today after seeing the 4 star rating and craving some real Tacos, We decided to give it a try. We ordered 2 Beef, 2 Chicken, 2 Pulled Pork & 2 Fish Tacos. The 1st Taco I tried was the Fish Taco, Tiny and barely any Fish for $3.25 ea. but the taste was good, so I have to say this is the best part of my review. Next I tried the Steak Taco or My "go to: at any other Taco/Mexican Joint (Carne Asada) The first bite I took I immediately noticed a vinegary taste that tasted very much like Italian Salad Dressing, with some weird herbs. The meat was dry, overcooked and did not have that Smokey or the Char Grilled flavor you would typically expect from a steak Taco. "STRIKE 1" TOTAL Letdown, Next I Tried the Chicken Taco, same thing, Dry, Overcooked with that Vinegary Italian Salad Dressing Dressing Flavor with Herbs and NO CHICKEN FLAVOR at all. "STRIKE 2". Last but not least I took 1 bite of the Pulled Pork Taco and BANG Immediately the same as the 2 previous Taco's. By far the Worst WORST TACO'S I've ever eaten in my entire Life.
