Fried Ice Cream

Hubby & I are on a search for the best fajitas and fried ice cream... and we just found it at El Campestre!!! 10/10 Too bad we live a whole state away!

Visiting Cortez and saw El Campestre had very good reviews... right away just from the salsa I knew we had hit the jackpot! Food is hot and cooked fresh to order. Ordered the special of the day which was Pollo Ranchero and the drink special which was the cucumber jalapeño margarita and both were absolutely outstanding!!! I have traveled all over the country and this is easily the best Mexican food I have ever had. Our server Alberto was so wonderful and attentive. If I could give this place 10 stars, I would!! A cute hole-in-the-wall place like this is always a favorite for me.

Not very welcoming. Weeds and flimsy signs.

We wanted dinner around 6:45 PM on 9/14/25 which is a Sunday evening and we were turned away because they actually ran out of food to serve!! What? Seriously? The place looked like a back room diner with card tables and folding chairs anyway, but we just wanted some good food. Sad. Somebody didn't plan very well, it seems. Oh, there's Safeway and City Market a couple blocks away..... just saying.

I checked other reviews in the area, looking for a good Mexican restaurant in Cortez, CO. El Campestre got great reviews and didn't disappoint. First off their salsa was amazing and their chips were fresh! I ordered chile verde and my husband ordered a 2 item combo with chicken enchiladas. The food was delicious and we are going back tomorrow night, someone at the next table over ordered fajitas and they smelled so good! Go to this restaurant you won't regret it.

Stop by the place on our way to the airport after leaving Meza Verde. Amazed at how delicious the food is considering the price. The place is cute and service is quick. Will come back again if we are in the area!

Great staff, welcomes immediately and got a table quickly. Waitress brought child and salsa fast too! Ordered a margarita and a quesadilla and both were great! Marg was tasty and big!

Chimichanga with green sauce.

This had good reviews which doesn't mean much with all the fake ones now days but this place was legitimate. The service was great. We walked in the door and were seated anywhere we wanted. It was a bit crowdedded but they got our food quickly. The kitchen is in plain sight and the cooks were working very hard. I always start to judge a Mexican restaurant by the chips and salsa. Both were very good. Not just the hot-stuff blended into a liquid but had actual chunks of all the good stuff. The decor is not that fancy but with good food there is no need for frills. I would definitely go here again if i am in Cortez Colorado.

Enchiladas Chipotles

If you're looking for a Mexican joint with amazing food and fast, friendly service, look no further! The ambiance had the feel of a small family owned restaurant with a lot of charm! The star of the show was definitely the food though! My fiance got the Enchiladas Verdes and I got the Enchiladas Chipotles. We can both confidently say that they were the best enchiladas we have ever had, and they were piping hot too! The Sauce on the Enchiladas Chipotle was especially incredible! This sauce had a good kick to it so definitely stay away from this one if you don't like spice! My fiance got the mango margarita and it was delicious and quite strong! 11/10 restaurant and definitely the best Mexican food we have had in Colorado!!!

They deserved their score - super tasty. I don't care much about service and ambiance. Both were good.

Really good service and mole sauce! Enchiladas Rancheros were also really good. We went on a Saturday evening at 5:30 and got right in.

We walked in and were immediately greeted by one of the bartenders and told to sit wherever we liked. We found a nice booth off to the side of the bar area. Our server Patrick stopped by the booth and pointed us to the food menu in the chalkboard. We also had another server but I didn't catch her name. They were both very friendly and attentive. I ordered the special for the day. A green chili Rueben & fries. Wow, this sandwich was so delicious! What a creative combination of flavors. Even the slaw in the Rueben included the green chilis. The fries were hot and crispy. My husband ordered the spicy BBQ pulled pork tacos. He said the tacos were amazing and the flavors were off the charts. They were topped with a slaw and pickles. The side of "tortilla chips" had a dusting of a very flavorful spice. Not sure what it was but very tasty. Looking over the menu, this restaurant has some very creative dishes. We can't wait to stop by again! My husband ordered

Steak Out also has a vibrant bar scene in the back of the restaurant, spilling outdoors to well planned outdoor dining and pub setup. The service is friendly and attentive. Steak Out shifts gears for lunch, offering all kinds of interesting fare for lunch. Not cheap but well worth it for what you get. Much of their menu items are both creative and genuinely delicious. Watch for unusual limits on days open. Currently, seems like they're closed Sunday and Monday and Tuesday, and then open from 11am till closing Wednesday through Saturday, which offers opportunities to drop by not only for lunch or dinner, but in between as well. Central fireplace, very comfortable seating, etc. Very pleasant vibe, welcoming locals and tourists alike. Super to have this option in Dolores, and serving the Cortez community as well. Highly recommended.

The restaurant has an upscale vibe. Not quite white cloth but a place to celebrate a special event. I ordered a Merlot and the 16oz ribeye. Everyone at the table ordered steaks: wagyu steak, New York strip, and the filet mignon. My steak was divine!!! Melt in your mouth amazing flavor. The tomato jam on top was pretty damn tasty too. Although after a while it became too much so I had to move it off to the side. The veggies were cooked perfectly and the baked potato was good. I tried the wagyu and while it was tender and good I much preferred my ribeye. Everybody else seemed to enjoy their steaks. Our only complaint was that we waited an hour and a half for our food. Our reservation was for 1830, we did not get our steaks until 2000. They did give us a complimentary soup or salad for the wait which was nice but 1.5 hours is a little much. But if I were to find myself in the area I would make a stop for this place... I'd just make sure there are no parties lol.

The food was absolutely incredible. Over a week traveling with numerous stops, La Casita De Cortez absolutely comes out on top easily. Homemade food with passion behind it and generous portions. Everything was cooked to perfection and tasted incredible. The drinks were also impeccable with a decent variety of margaritas and others. Stop here if you can and enjoy every second of it! The good things were the marinated fajita meat and fresh corn tortillas. Unfortunately the onions and peppers were charred and burnt black which meant the meat was way overcooked The outdoor dining area was nice but it was too cold for our parents so we sat inside. They didn't offer green chile salsa which is what our mom really wanted. Our server Elizabeth was very nice and seemed too busy but was kind to fulfill our repeated requests. Their portions of sour cream and side dishes to accompany the fajitas were skimpy. We had to always ask for more fearing additional charge after charge, but happily that didn't happen. Overall it was okay. I doubt I'd return.
