This was our final Mexican restaurant as one member of our group isn't a fan of Mexican and as they owned the vehicle we were using, a revolt was a real thing. Being told by a local that Cortez is in want of a good restaurant this is the best they had, we gave it a try. The food was okay and nothing to write home about. In fact, I have gotten far better Mexican along the East coast than this place, though the green chiles are better in this region. The chile colorado was okay at best. The refried beans were average. No one in the group was wowed about the dishes they had. Desserts were a bit perplexing. The churros arrived without the sugar and cinnamon. The sugar combo came in a saltshaker and when applied to the churro didn't stick. The sopapillas had a mixed viewpoint amongst us. No one really enjoyed them except for me. Overall, this is average. If you're in Cortez it may be the best Mexican restaurant they have. read more

To preface, we got takeout last night because they were one of the only restaurants nearby still open. That said, our takeout was so fire, we had to dine in the next day. Here is a list of my impressions: 1. Terrific service. Immediately greeted and seated right away, and our server was awesome. (I didn't catch her name, but she was amazing). 2. Do not sleep on the margaritas here! I got the melon marg, and it wasn't too sweet, a little on the boozy side, and 1000% perfect. 3. I highly recommend anything on the menu that includes the Pollo asado. This is what got me addicted from the takeout. We had the pollo asado plate, and the burrito. So so so good!! 4. For my cold girlies... they keep the AC cranked! So definitely bring an extra sweater or jacket. 5. Conclusion: I feel guilty, because since we've moved here, I've been to other Mexican restaurants that are awesome! Great little place with nice ambience and friendly, fast service! I don't know if I could call it the best Mexican food I've had, but for a burrito stuffed with a pepper stuffed with cheese, I couldn't complain. Vegetarian diners beware that the vegetarian burrito has been jettisoned from the version of the menu pictured, but there's still the chile relleno burrito (delicious) and a combo plate which I can believe be made veggie. Chips, salsa and an unremarkable cabbage slaw are served gratis. Our Modelos came with ice cold glasses with a Tajin rim. Portions were substantial, avocados were fresh, and the friendly service made me forget that earlier, at the Grand Canyon, a man of boomer age openly gestured to my relatively unobtrusive septum piercing and straight up laughed. This man is not equipped for the modern age. Anyways, it's a great place to settle down in a comfy booth, unroll a map of Colorado, and destress from hours of driving with somehow the same pickup truck always following a little too close behind you. read more

We were visiting from southern AZ and were very surprised. The food was very good. The shredded beef in the chimichanga was very well seasoned. My husband ordered the special. Chicken, beef, and mushroom. Everything was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Even the beans and rice were very good. We usually don't finish those , but we both cleaned our plates. The salsa was very good. The bench seats need to be reupholstered. They are cracked severely. Service was excellent and we will definitely return if ever in the area again. read more

So I just called over to the restaurant (9:30pm) because there's a whole bunch of noise coming from a dumpster that's right behind the RV park that I live at and they were so incredibly rude that they hung up on me when I asked them if it was going to continue much longer. This place was pretty good. We got the Compechana "appetizer". It was enough for a meal for 2 and seeing that we were on a motorcycle we had to leave some behind. It's got EVERYTHING seafood in it including scallops and baby octopus. TOTALLY AWESOME and very authentic. I had the Rellenos and my daughter had a combination plate. Both were fantastic. Service was a little slow but I think our waitress had a lot of tables and one had about 12 people. She was doing the best she could in my opinion. I'd definitely come here again. read more

What to expect- Friendly fast service, ample portion sizes and fresh well-prepared food. Great value for what you spend. We arrived to find ample parking even with many customers already there. We were immediately greeted by our server, who seated us at a comfortable booth table. Decor is simple and appropriate, and the establishment is clean and well lit. My wife ordered a combo plate with enchiladas, tacos rice and beans and I ordered a relleno burro (burro wrapped chili relleno). I had a beer and she had what is called a 'jarrito', a mixed alcoholic drink that was very tasty. The drinks were on the table in less than three minutes, and the food arrived about 10 minutes after ordering. Plates and food arrived hot and freshly prepared. Every morsel was delicious, and despite half a plate being enough, we couldn't resist finishing all of it. Our server was attentive and friendly throughout our visit. Our family loved Mi Mexico last night! In town from PA visiting Mesa Verde, and our dinner in Cortez was suggested by the hotel manager. Mi Mexico did not disappoint! Chicken molle was excellent- as was red chille platter, Loco burrito, carnitas, and a seafood burrito. Chips and salsa were refilled, and the service was excellent. Loved this place. The food was authentic and delicious. My husband and I ate here for lunch and we both had the 3 items to pick lunch with came with rice and beans. He had shredded beef taco , Chile Rellenos, & chicken burrito. I had shredded beef taco, pork tamale & cheese enchilada. All was cooked to perfection and delicious. The food is mediocre at best. There are much better places to get Mexican food in Cortez. But, more importantly, the owner/manager is an unethical human being. I tore up my new truck on something unavoidable in their parking lot. The owner/manager offered to pay half, then when the repair was completed he said that he would only pay $200. We got the Deluxe enchilada and the mi mexico salad and both were pretty good! Was expecting some more veggies (lettuce/tomato) in the salad, but it was definitely tasty. The grilled onions and steak on top really gave it good charred flavor. The enchilada was also tender (chicken) and had plenty of yummy sauce to keep it moist. I appreciated it not being too salty. Wow, Mi Mexico offers delicious Mexican food! It was hubby's bday dinner and we wanted a delicious experience in a patio in a relaxed setting and Mi Mexico completely delivered. We tried the Mi Mexico Enchiladas, chili Verdi, chili Colorado burrito, a chili relleno and bacon wrapped shrimp. All were highly flavored (not spicy) and completely delicious!! The rice and beans, often the marker of good Mexican food, were executed perfectly. We also had a nice Mexican lager and house margaritas. YUM! Do stop in and try this place. I wish the mask wearing by the waiter was a bit better (no nose exposure) but I still felt relatively safe and enjoyed myself. read more

We enjoyed a good meal at Mi Mexico, the carnita taco and crispy chili relliano was very good. It was very busy and the wait staff were prompt and accurate. The restaurant was clean and decorated appropriately for Mexican. There were several crying children who made the experience a less enjoyable. The food is awful. All items are misrepresented on the menu. We ordered 2 carne asada burrito's. We got a flour tortilla with a little bit of meat. Covered is enchilada sauce and cheese. You can get better food from any other Mexican food place in town. I would have been better off going to Taco Bell. At least you know what you're getting. read more

The food was ok....the meat in my chile colorado was on the tough side, not tender. Rice and beans were typical fare. The margaritas tasted good but yeah, too small for what they charge for them.
