Stopped in here for lunch while passing through. It was later in the day so ordering was off the dinner menu (didn't see a lunch menu but it may have been separate). The atmosphere was typical for a Mexican Restaurant. The server was quick and attentive. Chips and salsa were good. Salsa seemed homemade and had a little kick. I went with my traditional new restaurant order; taco, enchilada and chili rellano. They offered shredded beef which was my first plus (hard to find in the Midwest). Both the taco and enchilada had plenty of meat. Sufficient toppings on the taco. The rellano was excellent. Cheesy but. It over the top. The rice was very good as well. In all this was one of my best first experiences in a Mexican restaurant. If in the area it would be a must-return. read more

I actually like El Caporal, and I've gone for years. However, they have gotten way too expensive. I picked up a Fajita burrito to go, that was it, and after a 20% tip it was nearly $30. It's above average Mexican food, but I don't think the quality matches the price anymore. If I'm paying $30 for a burrito, it better blow my mind. And it didn't. It was fine. It was $15 good. But for $30, not worth it. You gotta do something El Caporal. Either justify the cost by raising the quality, or lower your prices. Otherwise it'll be Rio Bravo for me most of the time. read more

Service was FAST and friendly! We were surprised how quick we got our food yet the quality and portion was on point. Typical family Mexican restaurant vibes with quiet festive music playing. The menu was quite large to suite a multitude of appetites. We stayed at a rental place just across the street so this was a very convenient location for our needs. We do wish the hours were a bit later (close at 8pm) however this seems to be the case for most local places in town so not really anything to complain about! We stopped in to have a margarita and a quick bite... It was absolutely disgusting. The margarita was just from a premade pitcher and we tasted zero tequila. Then we ordered some deluxe nachos and it was a small plate of soggy slop. It was embarrassing bad. We've been going there for years but this was it...we will never go back there. read more

Chilaquiles were ok. Bad coffee. Very generous pour on Bloody Mary. Music was blaring when we arrived and were the only people there (11:30 ish). Poor service by young man who mumbled and didn't speak English well enough to answer questions about the menu. We switched to Spanish and he still seemed confused about the menu and gave us incorrect info. He was diligent about water but should be trained on just about everything else. read more

I am giving this place 3 stars, but 3 stars is generous. I am going to say my mother brought me here about 30 years ago. Anytime we headed east on I-90, we were typically headed to Yakima to vegetable shop. On this day, I thought it was no different and when we pulled off the freeway and headed here, I was shocked. That said, it was a memorable meal that we repeated a couple times and when I started to drive I made the journey here a couple time myself on dates. I'm going to say it's been 15 years since I've been here, but after my first choice in the area was closed, I decided to see if this place still existed. The place isn't that big and despite two people working the floor, they struggled to keep up. It was about 5 minutes to be greeted despite them seeing up and another 2-3 minutes after being greeted to be sat. My first call out is pricing. Prices here were low, so low I thought I had an odd menu, but when the food came, I could see why, the portion was far smaller than expected, but completely in line for what was being charged. Ironically, I discovered the Maple Valley location and the food was really good, but I didn't put 2 and 2 together that it was the same chain, that said, after a couple questionable if not bad meals there, I stopped going. Lack of consistency in both portion and flavor. Portion I can deal with, I just ask for more, but when a dish doesn't take like it used to that is a bad situation. I had the carne asada. It didn't look or taste like what I'm used to. It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't good either. It lacked flavor and tasted more like roast than steak. Chips and salsa were tasty, but neither got refilled as they charge for that. Still hungry, I spiked my plate with a ground beef taco. Unfortunately, it tasted more like tomato paste than ground beef, the texture was odd and it wasn't even hot. For a place I would have considered to be a solid 9, it was tough seeing the fall to this level. It was honestly closer to a single star experience, but since it cost less than fast food, I bumped them up to 3 stars. My suggestion is remember who you are and where you come from. Nobody in Mexico is serving food that taste like this. If you are going to serve a smaller portion, I'm good with that, just make sure what you serve makes Mexico proud. That was hands down the saddest Mexican meal I'd had in a while. read more

There was hardly any customers there at 4:00pm. It took forever for the waiter to ask for our drink order. Then it took forever for him to take our food order. My ground beef & refried bean tostada had no meat & beans on it, just some sauce. I had to flag down a different waiter to ask for meat & beans. My spouses tostada had hardly any lettuce on his. I have been a frequent patron of El Caporal. Why? Because they are close to where I live AND their food is great! I have had friends mention that they had put a To Go Order in, and I'd quickly chime in with my order as well! They are reasonably priced, and have friendly staff. I have not been disappointed with anything I've ordered! I've met for lunch/ dinner with friends & relatives at El Caporal. The Restaraunt is clean, pleasant & inviting. The staff has always been welcoming & the service is great. I tend to order light dishes, like two chicken tacos. Sometimes the combination plate with rice & beans, other times individually. . This is my absolute favorite restaurant in North Bend. The service is the best! I always leave happy. The options in Washington (North Bend especially) for Mexican food are kind of limited. The veggie fajitas and veggie burrito are soo flavorful. I usually share with my husband because the portions are so huge. I also like anything with the shredded chicken. Yum. My kids like the enchiladas. They always crush the rice and beans too. The have a really great selection of fairly priced food with excellent portion size. We have been here several times. Will we be back? No. It took a bit to get seated (it was not busy). It took forever to get a table. When we did get a table and the waitress brought our chips and salsa over it must have been the end of the chips because it was more or less a bunch of tiny broken chips. I asked for more and THEY CHARGE FOR ANOTHER ROUND OF CHIPS! $2.50 for what, 99 cents worth of chips? I have never heard of this at any other Mexican restaurant we have ever been to charging for more chips. Food was very bland. I'm not sure what changed (ownership?) but something changed. Came here with three friends after a hike. Loved that they gave complimentary chips and salsa. These held us over until our food came. They have a lunch menu with slightly discounted items and lunch sized portions. The food was extremely reasonably priced. We ordered 3 chicken burritos and one cheese enchilada. The enchilada was huge and came with a generous amount of rice and beans. The burritos were also pretty large and came with guacamole and sour cream on top. The burrito itself had great flavor and the red sauce on top was tasty. My only issue with the burrito was that the only meat choices were shredded chicken and beef. I like to get carnitas or al pastor meat in my burritos, but they didn't have these. If I do get chicken, I try to get grilled chicken, rather than shredded. However, the burrito was still pretty good, and I would come back again if I were hungry after a hike. The service was fast and the waiter was quite responsive. read more

Just ok overall. Most of the food was mediocre. Margherita was a syrupy mix and pretty weak. I had the seafood enchilada, which was filled with what appeared to be frozen shrimp. The sauce was nothing special, but the avocado was perfect and the rice was pretty tasty too. Service was fast but our server didn't listen very well. I asked for a Margherita without salt and he brought it out with salt. I asked for flour tortillas and he brought corn tortillas. The place seemed clean with a decent atmosphere. read more

We've come here plenty times and the food is typically amazing as well as service. Tonight made me actually want to write a different review based on the service we had. I had just gotten off from work, already had eaten dinner earlier so I wasn't super hungry- it was around 7pm- but my boyfriend needed a bite to eat so I decided to of course join him and get a dessert, no problem. Our waitress Sylvia (name on receipt) was dumbfounded and acted like it was a sin against humanity to order a dessert... I let it go because I'm not one to let others bother me. Once my sweets came to the table, she sat them down, threw her hands up at us- rolled her eyes !! and said "here's dessert for your dinner" and walked away, not in a jokingly way either.. I was shocked. Ive been to SO many restaurants across states and this has never happened to me before!! I ordered takeout last night, and the salsa was so fresh and alive, I *literally* drank the remnants of it from the cup. Couldn't get enough of those fresh/alive ingredients; it was manna from heaven. Also, regarding the takeout order: it was so lovingly and thoughtfully packaged. I can't say enough good things about this place. You WILL have leftovers from the portions. The steak I got was perfectly tender, prepared to perfection, with an amazing char-broiled flavor. The accompanying beans and rice were viscerally satisfying and unspeakably delicious. Go there. Get takeout. Have one of the third party delivery services deliver. You will NOT regret it. First, it was wayyyyy too hot in the restaurant. There were only a few tables of customers, but it was almost as hot as outside. My margarita tasted ok......definitely not the best. Our food was extremely bland. Tasted as if it wasn't seasoned at all. The salsa tasted like watered down tomato paste with vegetables in it. I asked for only meat and cheese on my chalupa, and it came with big glops of guacamole and sour cream. I'm allergic to a avocado. Hence me requesting only meat and cheese. Husband ordered shredded chicken. We didn't know that meant he needed to shred his chicken. Customer service was lacking as well. Unless you were a regular it seemed like. read more
