Showed up Wednesday morning at 8 :45 as a single with the next 4 tee times wide open and the older man behind the desk was making a big deal about letting me out as a single rider and refused to let me out as a single rider . Then proceed to send someone out on the same tee time as a single rider ! Picks and chooses who to hand carts out to. As I played saw multiple single riders but was denied mine. As a member of El Cariso, this comes from a place of love. I have over 20 years of hospitality experience, and I'm appalled by the customer service in the clubhouse. With the exception of the red-haired lady, the rest of the staff--particularly the men--act like they despise being there. The website is completely unreliable for bookings, so I'm forced to call. Every single time, I'm told they "can't book over the phone," even though they absolutely can. After just two months, I'm seriously considering canceling my membership. That should tell you how bad it is. I genuinely enjoy the course itself, but walking into the clubhouse fills me with anxiety. The staff make you feel small, stupid, and unwelcome. They ooze contempt simply for you daring to be a paying customer. No smiles. No eye contact. No thank you for your business. Nothing. I can tolerate overbookings. I can tolerate running out of carts on a regular basis. What I cannot tolerate is dealing with people who clearly couldn't care less about the guest experience. It's heartbreaking to watch how much potential business the upstairs bar is losing because the guys downstairs treat basic customer service like it's beneath them. The worst part? This is an incredibly simple fix. A smile, basic eye contact, and minimal human decency would go a very long way. Haven't played here in ages. It's an executive course out in sylmar. I decided to take my daughter to get some air while playing a local course. I told the clubhouse guy that I was going to play and was taking my daughter with me. She does not play golf- she just needed to get out of the house and get some fresh air. He told me that I would have to pay for her round. I told her she's not playing and he can charge me for a double on the cart. He said no. It's not what he said it's how he said it in a smug way. Booked a time for 2:54, could not book over the phone. I knew it would be a problem, when they told me that I had to book online. Did not tee off until 3:20. After booking online. Starter could not group golfers properly. Having booked online, was told to input my card information. Without showing how busy the course was. After walking into the starter, golf cart waiters were backed up, and the golf course was not moving. 18 hole course was over booked, I ended up having to walk to course. Twigs and leaves are overwhelmingly all over the course and fairways. Greens are full of divots, bunkers are not well kept. Overall the only thing good about it, was that it was a golf course, and that the price is very low. read more

If you want to get on the tee box in a bad mood, make sure to stop by the pro shop and speak to Jesse. Guy hates his life, his job, and customers. The only time you'll see him smile is on the rare occasion a woman gives him any attention. The guy is miserable and makes every customer miserable as soon as they walk out of the shop. Honestly I try to give this course a chance every six months and it's always bad. It's either backed up or they don't have enough carts. Today was my worst experience and I am never coming back again. There was no carts so there was minimum 25 minutes between groups teeing off and it was still backed up, we caught up by the second hole. Took 5 hours to finish a 60~ course and usually it's 4.5 hour. When the carts came up to finally get one got yelled at by a guy and said he was first even tho the worker told us we were next (they were wrong). 20 min wait per hole to tee off don't come here! read more

I'm a regular at El Cariso and a big fan of golfing  and this place always feels like Cheers. I'm greeted with a smile from Delicia, then head up to see our favorite bartender Shaina, who honestly helped build this place into what it is today. After COVID, it wouldn't even be open without her. Uri's food? Absolutely magic. The team here is something special it really feels like family, and I'm so grateful to be part of it. Keep your eyes open for Shaina's events they're always amazing, with great live music and a vibe you don't want to miss. If you're hoping to sit outside or in the side room, I'd suggest avoiding Laura's shifts  in my experience, she tends to keep people in the bar area and isn't the most attentive. But that aside, this crew is the heart and soul of El Cariso. It took a lot of changeovers to get here, and I really hope it stays just the way it is now. read more

El Cariso was one of my favorite executive courses in the LA area. Got back in town and wanted to book a foursome. I was forced to the website which charges an additional $10.00 per player. I did it and ate the charge because I wanted one of their great Bloody Marys. Well, needless to say, my tee time was not reserved. We had to wait an additional 45 minutes. I just called to book for a foursome next week. I explained what happened but the rude dude who answered the phone did not care. Bad customer service and over charging is a quick way to lose loyal players. Maybe this review will facilitate a change. read more

Always wanted to play in the course I've walked alongside my entire childhood. But never got into golf until my old age. Finally got the chance to today. After reading reviews in anticipation, it was clear new management came in within the past year and improved it. Signs are clear for which holes are which now, apparently, cause I had no trouble getting around from hole to hole. Also, as you can see from the pictures, the grounds are kept real clean and nice. Occasional crushed beer can, but that's not on the staff. We started playing at 7:20 am and finished by 11:30 am. Two groups of Folks were waiting for carts by then, but, that goes to show you how popular this course is becoming. Views are breathtaking and the grounds are well kept. I will definitely come back to my childhood hometown to partake in my new found hobby. A full 18 on a weekend morning for half a hundo with a cart, not a bad deal at all! read more

I've been a member here for over a year now and I think I know enough to give an honest review of this course. As a golf course, the member price is worth it, which is 16 with a cart an hour before twilight. As a non member price, it's absolutely not worth it. The greens are lumpy and unpredictable and the pace of play is atrocious. I'm talking a 30 minute wait to tee off while the Marshall in the background playing an empty hole instead of doing his job. Now this brings me to the staff: I have seen many reviews referring to "the old man" in the pro shop being incredibly rude to them. I have seen people try to get his name and him not offer it. His name is Jesse. There's a reason why he's not offering his name. If he had a nametag, there would be 100 reviews about him. I am truly one of the most non confrontational, well-mannered people because that's how I was raised. Jesse's hatred for life makes me rude back to him. His aura brings my mood down because he's guaranteed trying his upmost best to make sure people don't want to keep coming back to el cariso. He's straight up bad for business. "Thank you" and "have a good round" and "have a good one" and "hey how are you doing" are not part of his vocabulary, I'm at the course 5 times a week and when I say hello to him he just death stares me. When I say thank you, it's another death stare. One time we had a 5 stack planned. We knew that they generally max it out at 4. We thought, since we've seen groups of 6 play in front of us OFTEN, as well as Jesse playing with a group of 7 before, it might be worth a shot--especially since the course was EMPTY due to rain. He said "that's against the rules" with a straight face. We said, we'll play fast and that we've seen plenty of people do it before. He said he'll make an exception but the only condition is that our 5th has to walk in the rain. His exception was literally a potential lawsuit. Making someone walk 18 in the rain when there were 15 carts available. I just don't get what possess someone to be such a bummer. His exception was sadistic. He's not accommodating to customers that keep the place in business. Me along with my 5 friends, easily spend 500-1000 a month at el Cariso combined and the best this dude can say to us is "keep your carts on the path or you'll get kicked out" when we're parked in front of the cart signs. Such a miserable person and I just can't take that treatment anymore. I strongly recommend a membership at Knollwood, debell, sand canyon, literally anything over this place. Unless Jesse gets replaced this place is not going to be my main anymore. Delecia and Ann are gems though. Never lose them or you just want el cariso to be miserable. They are accommodating, they are good for business. They make me want to support the pro shop. They make me want to overpay for drinks because they are welcoming. I usually have fun playing golf and I had fun playing here. The greens are nice and there are lot of trees along the fairways. El Cariso has a nice layout, is wide open, and the fees are reasonable. I recently played here, and I am not sure why there isn't any golf hole information on the tee-boxes. This is the only course I have played that doesn't have a hole map or the yardage posted. Luckily, I have a Golf app with GPS that provides the yardage, but my golfing partners didn't and kept asking me for the yardage. On this visit, I also learned there were not selling any beers because they don't have a license. I probably will not visit soon or until they invest and install yardage signs. Yesterday it was my wife's first round of golf and not only did she play great but she really enjoyed the course as well. I've been bringing my son here to the golf range for a few weeks now. We have a great time each time. It may not be as luxurious or as beautiful as a high end country club, but it will do for me. Course is very well maintained. You can come here and golf, go to the range, go for a walk at the adjoining park, go to the clubhouse for drinks or food or visit mission college. read more

I called in for a group of 8 told me it was fine. our group played most of our holes when they made it a big deal, very racist for stopping our group when we were almost finished out 18. I went here with some friends out of their recommendation. They had been here all week in the rain on the driving range with no issue. They brought us today and we're all excited when the guy at the course tells us that it's closed because "his balls will get all muddy". What kind of excuse is that? My friend came in the POURING rain and it was open. Today is sunny and it rained hours ago. I called later to ask if it was open because we really wanted to play and he gave me the same answer: "muddy balls". And when I said "no problem, I understand, can I have your name?" He hung up on me. Regardless of who's right or wrong, if I ask an employee for their name, they should be able to give me their name. Hanging up on a costumer is terrible customer service. read more

El Cariso is a nice executive course. The grounds are kept better than most and its seems like we able to play 18 without much waiting. Some other local courses have created fivesomes and stacked them back to back, resulting in long wait times. El Cariso doesn't do this. This course has great mountain back drops and challenging holes with water hazards, trees and bunkers. A nice feature is they have a practice range to work out any kinks before you play. They only take credit cards- no cash. My suggestion would be for them to have more signage on the course. Sometimes finding the next hole is confusing. We will be playing there again. read more

El Cariso Golf Course has gorgeous surroundings, beautiful greens and and an amazing club house.. called the 19th hole! They offered delicious breakfast burritos, burgers, veggie dogs, snacks, and the most amazing bloody Mary that I have ever had. Their beautiful bartender, Shaina, is incredibly skilled at mixology and conversation. I recommend a margarita, corona beer, or bloody Mary at this fabulous watering hole to go with your breakfast burrito or burgers. This hidden gem has a fun atmosphere and lovely regulars. Very well conditioned course! Very good for beginners! My 1 star is solely for the staff! Managers are very poorly trained! Alessia was of highest authority and she must have been having a rough day because her attitude was atrocious and nothing I've ever experienced at a nice golf course! Unsure if she is assistant gm but I was disgusted to say the least... hopefully down the road there will be no one treated the way I felt when coming I can't imagine what would happen if the wrong people were to encounter her. El Cariso Golf Course has ample parking spaces, a shaded Golf driving range, and straight wide courses. Strangely, two big water sprinklers were on at 12 pm while players are playing golf at #3 and #4. It has some nice mountain views. Significantly, there are no number signs on tee boxes of each course; therefore, we lost the tracks and we played the last #18 after #14. There are many ducks and duck poop on the greens. read more

El Cariso used to be one of the better hidden gems in the valley. Not anymore. It's very unorganized, the "starter" is just some guy telling everyone to wait. There's no real tee sheet, they just let groups show up and go whenever. When I'm the only group that actually had a scheduled tee time, I'd like to think I'm not waiting 35 minutes. The price is a bit much for the experience as well. There's no reason this place as a par 62 should cost more than a par 72 like Woodley or Encino. Very unhappy with my experience. read more

The course needs to do a better job controlling other golfers. During a round a few weeks back, I could hear the group yelling and cursing and being generally belligerent. I've got no problem with guys being guys on the golf course, but keep it to your own group. Racing the carts up the hill from 12 to 13 tee is dangerous, and when you add beer and the loud gangster music to the mix, makes it even worse. Send marshals out to keep everyone generally safe and enjoying the round without being obnoxious to others. read more

El Cariso 19th hole grill "Marco special" breakfast special. I didn't want a breakfast burrito because, well, they're too big. I feel guilty eating one after my 2 mile runs here around the golf course. As it is, Chef Vicki would modify the burrito to reduce its caloric naughtiness. However, being the ever so accommodating chef that she is-- Vicki invented a yummy, smaller, fun alternative to the burrito. Introducing the new special/ secret menu item at the grill-- the "Marco Special" Breakfast Tacos. Street size corn tortillas, 2 eggs, 1 sausage patty cut in half, avocados, and a couple of tater tots (she had to) for crunch, served with a homemade tomatillo hot sauce! I love coming here after my runs/ bike rides. Great view, simple vibe, relaxing (great for journaling ideas). Thanks, chef Vicki! for everything you do to make me feel great! This course is mine and my friends go to course for a quick 18. Many hazards, variety of terrain and views. Bunkers need a lot of attention including "Sand". But nevertheless, fun to play. Fairways aren't high quality and the carts desperately need updating. If you come in the afternoon to play you'll be lucky to make it 9 holes without the batteries dying. But for the price and convenience all in all, worth trying it out. read more
