I feel guilty eating one after my 2 mile runs here around the golf course. As it is, Chef Vicki would modify the burrito to reduce its caloric naughtiness. However, being the ever so accommodating chef that she is-- Vicki invented a yummy, smaller, fun alternative to the burrito. Introducing the new special/ secret menu item at the grill-- the "Marco Special" Breakfast Tacos. Street size corn tortillas, 2 eggs, 1 sausage patty cut in half, avocados, and a couple of tater tots (she had to) for crunch, served with a homemade tomatillo hot sauce! This course is mine and my friends go to course for a quick 18. Many hazards, variety of terrain and views. Bunkers need a lot of attention including "Sand". But nevertheless, fun to play. Fairways aren't high quality and the carts desperately need updating. If you come in the afternoon to play you'll be lucky to make it 9 holes without the batteries dying. But for the price and convenience all in all, worth trying it out. read more

one star for the day 5/15/2024 Let me firstly say I have played El Cariso with friends for many years and have always enjoyed the rounds and clubhouse even though both could use a little help. I'll leave it there because the newest management team is definitely putting in the effort to bring things up to par. See what I did there. I am today a 210-club member at El Cariso. I use the range often. Was at the course 5/13/24 it was casually mentioned by the starter that the range would be closed 5/15. Ok I forgot and headed there anyway and yep closed. Ok so course was fairly empty plenty of carts in line so I thought I would get in 9 holes. Willing to pay the 210-club fee for 18 of course but time for 9 would be all I had. I said to the young lady behind the counter that the course seemed light and I would like to go out. she told me she would pair me with a threesome going out shortly so ok. Also that I would ride with someone in that party of 3. I am all for making new acquaintances on the course but being put in a cart with someone you do not know? I joined the course 210 club as a single reduced fee tee times one hour before twilight with a cart and said I would prefer my own cart and since no one else was in the immediate vicinity to go out since my time was short and questionable if I would even complete 9 to which I was told that the course now prefers not to send out singles the reason being singles tend to go where ever they want playing in whatever order they want. I could only shake my head and laugh. said ok thanks and left. I'll take it up with someone another day. read more

Nice 18 hole executive golf course and not as busy as the likes of Westchester. Longest hole is 400 yards, shortest is 136. The course has it all - water, sand and elevation changes. Although a nice course not quite as polished as Scholl Canyon or Vista Valencia. Good rates if you play after 2pm (twilight). Ample parking and there is a driving range, putting green, snack bar and bar/grill located here. It is located next to Mission College (off Hubbard). read more

His tone was not customer friendly and was even worse when he came to tell us we had to leave due to "wild life in the area." Worst money I've spent with playing golf. $50 to ride and nobody has cut the grass in 3 months your telling me. The grass was all over the course was so thick and high I lost 7 balls just on good hits because I couldn't see the ball through the grass. And no flags on the green and the holes were covered up?! How do I play golf that way? At least have the flags in and say don't touch due to covid-19 like encino golf course did and there course was in perfect shape. I went back to el cariso, after the new management that made me not to play there anymore, the first they charge $28. the following week they charge me $39. this Thursday with a group of 8 to 12 , $49. it seems that who every on cash register puts it own price to play, not to much change, greens are beat up, sand traps! no sand/ its hard dirt, water in sand trap on out let for water. and for them to tell me its better then any course around they must not get out, so save your money and time, the fee service(course) sucks here, (foods good). the building looks in need of repair out&inside, downstairs bathroom with duck tape on floor to keep tile down, no repairs. there specials for me not special. Vista Valencia Golf is where ill play for this Sylmar resident Veteran, it s jest to bad I cant play in my own back yard. read more

They routinely sell unplayable tee times. On Sunday, March 12 I was sold a 5:37 am tee time. The starter did not show up until 630, and carts weren't available until 635. No apologies or explanations offered. No discount offered. They sell pre-dawn tee times yet do not accommodate night golf. No lights, nor do they sell glow balls. If you make an early tee time you are typically 30 minutes behind when you start. There are always slow players and no marshall. I've had it take up to 4 hours to finish. Food is subpar, and ants on the bar. Staff is rude and unhelpful. read more

If your golfing on a budget, you definitely have to hit up El Cariso. They're slowly making improvements to the course, clubhouse and driving range. Its not the nicest course, but for the price you get a good round of golf and you meet some pretty nice people along the way. Back in my Alemany golf team days we used to come here, Hansen Dam, and the Cascades which burned down, RIP. Those were the days...free golf and good times. HAHA. But hey, long removed from high school golf and I keep coming back. The prices to play and to hit balls on the range are the cheapest I've found in the area and I actually have enough money left over to be lazy and get a cart and some beer. AHA, I don't usually drink when I play golf but its all about havin' the option to. The course is pretty easy...I don't think there's anything more than a par 4, and all the holes are pretty short. But of course, there's some obstacles which can mean some good practices or big headaches...depending on how you look at it. read more

I like this course. I would say a lot if they took a bit better care of the course. It's a bit confusing since they don't have any kind of signs to tell you where the next hole is or anything. That said, I had a fantastic time playing this course and will be back, a lot. I reaaaaaally want to give them 4 stars but the damn deal we got came with meals and we couldn't order anything because the chef left early with of all things ironically...food poisoning. This course is ok if you want to get out and play. Pretty even combination of par 3s and 4s. The ground that the tee boxes are on can be a bit uneven though. Having to put up a $5 cash deposit for a cart key can be a bit sneaky. I think they're banking on you forgetting to return the key which I have. read more

I can honestly call El Cariso my home course. Even when I lived 40 minutes away, I'd pass up 3 golf courses just to play here. The staff is awesome, Joseph, Ryan, Brian, and the whole staff at the restaurant and bar are great. I can choose to golf at any other course, but it's the friendly staff that keeps me coming back. This par 62 course definitely has a bit of character. Can't beat this place with a stick. read more

This course is a pretty darn good course for an executive. My favorite holes are hole #2 where you are usually left with an 'over the water shot' after you tee off as well as hole #11 which is a super elevated tee that hits down over a hillside onto a green. Great deal for what it costs and the course is a pretty fun challenge. It has a very laid back crowd. Often times they are not even dressed properly. Course definitely does not adhere to a strict dress code. For some of you that's a good thing, for others it's not. Me, I don't care. I always wear proper attire anyway. The bar is egh though. It's as if someone picked up your average dive bar in the valley and dropped it onto the club house here at El Cariso. Can't complain too much though because like any good dive.. beers are cheap. Not to mention it's right next to the 18th hole. Sometimes you just gotta have a beer after your last putt of the day. read more

The course is par-62 so much shorter than a normal course, no par 5's. It's a decent course and was great for a beginner like myself to get some course action outside of pitch and putt; there's decent variety with the holes and plenty of water and shrubs/woods to lose balls in. It's a bit pricey these days considering you can get a round at regulation length for a comparable price. I went a few times during COVID and even then there were no issues with pace of play or overcrowdedness. Tee times are always available, so it's great for a last second golf fix, but I feel like it's a course you can outgrow pretty quickly. read more

IT'S BAD, IT'S REALLY BAD. Used to be one of my favorite courses to play. It was a really good value and decent quality until new management took over. If anything, it seems like they're trying to shut the place down. They completely cleared out the pro shop and it's totally bare. The cashier doesn't know what anything costs, had to make up a price. I tried booking tee times on their own website as well as others on several occasions and couldn't do so. Then today, I booked on tee off.com and I had to show an email confirmation as well as my bank account to prove that it was paid for! They also turned the sprinklers on when I was teeing off on the 10th hole... right on the tee box. You can't make this stuff up. Another time, I came and their power wasn't on. Then another time their system wasn't working and couldn't pay with a card. Also showed up for a 12 pm tee time and they were closing the cafe for the day so I couldn't get lunch. AT NOON!?? Basically, this place has gone downhill so much I've vowed not to play here again. read more

This place is great! For $30 each we each got 18 holes of golf with a golf cart,a patty melt to die for, chips, a beer a soda and hot dog! Did I mention that two of us were able to get in an entire 18 holes in three hours?! The water hazards got me though. Lost two balls today, but it was worth it. A nice challenging executive course. Good deals on golfzing for certain times. Some tee boxes are really uneven and that is really annoying. But my least favorite thing about this course is no mater what day/time you play there always seems to be a group playing REALLY slow that ends up backing up the entire course. I wish they had a Marshall to speed up play when this happens. read more

For starters, I am a complete rookie at golf. About 2 weeks ago my buddy and I decided on a whim to hit some balls at the driving range (to see who could hit the ball further...dumb novices). Neither of us was very impressive but hitting some balls was entertaining. We wondered into the pro shop and met Lorenzo Thomas (resident golf pro and generally cool guy) and decided we found our instructor. Fast forward to today...My buddy and I finished our first day on the course hitting about 2x par on the first 9 holes which may not sound impressive but we are drastically improved from our first day here. Lorenzo has been really helpful and I am looking forward to my next lesson Thursday. Looking forward to beating Clint! read more

EL Cariso is under new management. Thing went downhill really fast. Course is in poor condition all the fairways are overgrown. The putting surfaces used to be fantastic, now they are terribly slow and terrible condition. Ive been playing at El Cariso for over 15- years and never seen anything this bad. read more

This is a really fun course, nice little bar upstairs. I'm upset about the fact that this course hasn't been manicured in weeks it seems like. The rough is SO overgrown! I've been here multiple times after they opened back up after the stay at home order was lifted, hoping that they'd mowed the lawn. I've been coming back a lot more to practice on the range and hit at a few holes. The driving range area updating is complete, with bright lights and an overhead canopy so you're not standing in the sun. There is a great bar/grill counter upstairs where you can get some cheap beer to drink while playing. Also, there are a lot of tame ducks and wild rabbits out on the course. We had a couple of ducks run up to us when they heard the sound of food being unwrapped. Super cute and it was fun to feed them (although it's probably something we shouldn't have done). read more

my first encounter with this golf course was back in high school when i was learning to drive. my then BF would take me there after hours and teach me how to drive and...wait..we were talking about golf, right? so...for convenience and cost effectiveness..i've hit up this course many a time. i drag my huge clubs out whenever i want to take my mind off of real life...and decide to immerse myself in the fantasy that i actually know what the hell i'm doing. grab a spot at the driving range...pull out a 7 spot and start warming up. since i'm a poor beeyotch, i always try and pull free tips from all the private lessons that are going on around me..."keep your knees bent, lock your wrists, keep your follow thru..." whatever tips work during the lessons...i've already probably stolen. after a while, when all the balls are gone, head up to the bar and order some brew. relax and enjoy the time away from home, work, and the rest of the world. on top of being here on my own time, i've also taken some Mission College Learning Annex courses in Golf here. not cheap, but still won't break the bank...so worth it. the place is situated right next to the growing Mission College campus, you can't miss it! read more

Never really a wait on holes, but last few times there, had to serve my self to get a cart, and last time there werent even carts available I had to wait for people to get off the 18 and get their cart that wasnt even cleaned. Had a 24 man tournament earlier in the year here and it went well except there were no golf carts available when our tee time arrived hence the riund was delayed 45 minutes. Have been trying to book a second tourney here for June, Talked to Luis 3 1/2 weeks ago . He was suppised to send me a contract . Every week I called him. Nothing. I tired to pay for it all and was told to wait. Yestersay i was promised a retuen call by him but again nothing. Today he is out sick. This guy needs to find another job. The course needs all the play they can get. It's no Pelocan Hill that's for sure. But if this man is in charge it's no wonder the County is broke. packing my clubs and moving the tourney to a competitor, Business 101 is what Luis sorely needs. Basic customer service. Very fun and interesting executive 18 hole course. Not your typical public course. The "Executive" portion makes you feel like you're a much better player than you are, and the holes are not just straight shots. Doglegs, water, sand, ducks, duck poo, every kind of hazard you can imagine exists all over this course. They have a great place to grab a drink and watch the game after you're done playing as well. My only complaint was it was a bit pricey for a executive public course (I think 32 with cart on weekend, I guess thats the standard) and the duck poo is EVERYWHERE, but there isn't much they can do about that, unless they kill off all the ducks/geese all over the place. read more

My home course as i live only a few blocks away. I learned to play here so this place is very near and dear to my heart. El-Co is under new ownership and boy have they cleaned up the joint! Before the take-over El-Co wasnt exactly the best place to play, the greens werent up to par and the weekend was always booked with shady characters that were friends with the staff that has now been cleaned out. Now when i come to play or practice i see a more diverse crowd of different races, ages, and sexes...a big plus!! Before it was mostly old guys and shady characters... This all come with a price though. Tee times have gone up considerably, but people dont mind because the course is now worth it... read more
