Different name, same crappy service. When this place was El Castillo, the food was so-so and the service was no-no. Now it's called "El Torito". They changed the name, but not the staff. Still a bad place. The only thing that makes it worth it is convenience. They're the only Spanish restaurant in the area. THEY DON'T EVEN GREET YOU WHEN YOU WALK IN! The tall Spanish girl acts like she's doing you a favor as she serves you. Walk up the block and get Jamaican food. If you're in the mood for AUTHENTIC Spanish food, take an Uber to the Bronx. read more

If there was a choice not to choose any star's, I wouldn't of even rated them a star. I am far by extremely disappointed with the service & the food of this place. The lady at the front counter over charged me for my order. When I confronted her with the problem, she told me the pricing listed for my order was an old menu, one that's been taped down at the front counter. I grab a menu they had out for customers to match if it was an old menu and it wasn't it was the same one. I originally handed her $40 before even giving me my receipt and she gave me back $6 dollars as my change with a receipt showing a charge of $30.12 I immediately told her if my order was $23.95 why are you giving me $6 as change. And when she finally did give me my change back I was still $2 short realized it on my way driving home. Food was not so great I had Combo# 12. And not what I expected I love eating Dominican Latin food that's why I came to this place but never again! The chicken had no flavor, rice was very dry and no taste. Not only was I still trying to eat the food just because I was hungry BUT I ended up finding 2 hairs inside my rice. I immediately threw my food away. It was a waste of money and a bad experience overall at this place. I will far from recommend this place to eat! And be careful with your money and what they give you back. read more

The first time I ate from here and I was not disappointed. The item I always order to let me know if the spot is good is the mofo go and they hit it out the park! Moist, tasty and a good size serving. The sauce was very good as well. The only drawback was the friend pork chunks. They were hard and over fried. The salad was basic with the typical oil and vinegar dressing. I am excited to try some more of the menu soon. read more

Horrible Food! The pork chops weren't seasoned. Regular white onions, yuck! The plantations were black and burnt. The white rice was sticky and clumpy , not fluffy. I wanted a refund which they refused, but they wanted to offer us a free meal to compensate for the horrible meal we had. No way!! Thank you ! I wouldn't feed that food to my DOG! By the way, my co-workers and I suffered stomach aches and diarrhea. The only thing we enjoyed was a SEALED UNOPENED BOTTLE OF GINGER-ALE.. smh read more

What a disappointing waste of money! Saw this place featured on Restaurant Hunters and got excited! Went there to check it out and the restaurant was dark..... there was music blaring which they turned down long enough for me to place my order.... it was so obnoxious! The buffet food looked pitiful. Like it was ready to be thrown out for the day although they still had 2 hours until closing. I nearly walked out but said let me give the place a chance. I ordered mofongo to go. Got home and they made it with sweet plantain which to top it all off was half way cooked! Who does that?!!! What a waste of my $11!!! I gave one star because the pork was tasty. I don't think I can give this place a second chance. I was very disappointed! read more

I called to place an order & waited for a little over an hour, called back just to be hung up on after being put on hold for maybe 6 minutes and never received my order so I'll never be ordering again. Btw, it's only 10 minutes away from my house. Can't do the bad customer service. Ordered one time before this and the chicken boneless chunks were good, rice was really bad and not worth it. I received a take out menu under my door from this place months ago and decided to give it a try last night. We called and placed an order for take out at 6pm. They said it would take a half hour but the food arrived at 6:40pm. The delivery man couldn't find parking so he double parked and was in a rush. As a result, we couldn't check our order thoroughly before he left. Once we started serving the food, we realized they forgot our beans. So we called the restaurant to report the error. The lady on the phone gave us horrible customer service. Instead of apologizing to us for their mistake and offering to have the beans delivered, she blamed us for their mistake & refused to correct it. Overall, I was disappointed and very dissatisfied with their food and customer service. The food (rotisserie chicken) was edible but I've definitely had better (El Malecon Restaurant has the best tasting rotisserie chicken). Also, the food arrived lukewarm and their customer service is horrible. I will NEVER order from this place again. read more

Food was horrible....I had take out and it was old food, it tasted as if they didn't throw out the food from the night before and decided to heat it up and send it out the next day! I highly recommend you don't even try the food! Usually food is better the next day but not from el Castillo! Love love love this place. I am so happy I found it. Food from the hot buffet is delicious! Beef stew with rice and sweet plantains was amazing!!! They have huge portions as well. I really don't know how to start. But I will recommend ESL to the entire staff. The orders are buffet and still cannot understand what you request. The food is usually salty and the prices are very inconsistent, I order a fish for the last three Friday's, and on a slow Monday evening I ordered it to go, and the price was $4.50 more then what I usually pay. The experiences are not pleasant, I just wish they get it together for once. This is the second management I seen and I'm starting to believe it's not the management it the service with a combination the salty food.. They also have a $10 minimum for card purchases which is not even legal. read more

this place moved from 241st st to westchester (south st in mt vernon) and has gone down the tank. i used to go to the old location to get mangu. this one has severely deteriorated. it looks nice, like they tried to cater to westchester ppl by making it a cafe. the service is HORRIBLE. they used to have 3-5 ppl working the front and now it's a mother and daughter, probably overworked, with a HORRIBLE horrible attitude. they make no eye contact and are rude. they refuse to explain what things are. they have a huge fancy menu, but actually cook NOTHING on that menu. if you ask for a wrap, they say sorry no wraps. i asked them what a "castillo wrap" has in it and she says i don't know. this was the owner. we asked for salmon teriyaki on ghe menu and she said they don't have it. we asked for chicken teriyaki and they didn't have it. asked for a wrap and she said "sorry we don't make wraps." these are the first three items on the menu. trash place definitely not going back read more
