La Reina has been around a few years, and appears to be holding their own amongst the other neighborhood Latin restaurants within the area. Our orders have been tasty and seem to be freshly made. We haven't dined in, so uncertain if that's an option. Driving by, their inside seems tiny, though their outward appearance is rustic and inviting. It is important to note, food-wise we are not in The Heights where full on authenticity is prevalent. I was so embarrassed at my event when everyone went to eat, I was so surprised that the chicken wasn't there. I ordered several whole chickens (which was the main part of the order). I did not notice it was missing until everyone started to eat. This was so embarrassing as everyone only had rice and salad to eat since the meat was missing. This is not the first time I ordered for an event and they messed up my order. Genesis, the owner daughter was super rude about it and did not take full accountability. She said it was the delivery drivers fault, which has nothing to do with me since they are the restaurant delivery driver. To make matters worse, I was promised a resolution and it never happened. I didn't even get a refund for the chicken I never received. See attached pictures of my conversations with the owners children. I was told by the son that they are taking accountability and will resolve the matter either with a refund or another order but then he went ghost and started to ignore me. They basically stole from me! SIDE NOTE: I won't ever spend my money here again. I learned that the food recipe changed since the old owners moved- which makes so much sense to the blandness of my recent meals. In the meantime they were checking the chickens on the spit and found a very tiny dry one that they didn't know what to do with. They cast it off to the side as if it would become a soup, discussing what to do with it. I went across the street to grab a slice, as this chicken would be my dinner for a few days. I requested to purchase the bottle of the mojito sauce that I usually get, but The lady at the counter didn't even know about the bottles. Opting for the 2 for $1 mini ramekins, I went ahead and paid for my food and drove back to Brooklyn. Imagine my surprise when I got home and opened my container of chicken to find the little dried up paltry one if they didn't know what to do with. I was livid. This is a family run restaurant where the food is prepared from high quality ingredients, made with love, offered in generous portions at reasonable prices. The customer service feels like a warm hug from a loving family member or friend. Nicole is the queen at Sazon Stizzy- working with her grandmother's recipes. Her friendly husband and charming son work "front of house" taking orders, processing payment, and offering warm hospitality and professionalism. Every bite I have tasted here has been incredible. My current favorites ** (I am sure they will change as the menu updates and new specials rotate through) are the chaufa egg fried rice ( really good with a protein), the mac attack mac and cheese and the honey garlic boneless chicken. The salom was also really good - what would make it 10/10 is if a cooked vegetable could be one of the side offerings.
