The food was not authentic and flavors were off. Nothing was spicy, even drowned in "hot sauce". The menu items sounded good, but in delivery were flat. It felt like they were just trying to be a little "fancy"-maybe to justify a larger price for mediocre and awkwardly arranged menu items. Really enjoyed brunch/lunch here. I had fajitas and hubby had Huevod Rancheros. Food was well spiced and plentiful. The restaurant was cute with good lighting and wall art. Our food was excellent. The asada's flavor was fantastic and it was the most tender steak we have had with an asada. The guacamole is delicious and the three sauces that come with the crunchy tortilla chips are fantastic! We added the cilantro sauce to the guacamole and it was amazing. This is an authentic Mexican restaurant, not the typical Tex-Mex Americanized Mexican restaurant, in a strip mall in Warrenton, Or - near Astoria. The food is excellent and it feels like you are in Mexico. It's all freshly made and doesn't come out in 2 minutes like so many Mexican restaurants. It also doesn't come drenched in so much cheese that you can't see or taste the food. The owner and his family are pretty much the staff and cooks and they do an amazing job. On the outside this place might not seem like much of a catch, but the inside is beautiful! Our food was absolutely amazing. We got the fajita special, which was seasoned very well. The steak, chicken, and shrimp were all cooked well. Most importantly, the staff was fantastic! They came to our table multiple times to see if we needed anything. Got us more water, more chips, and asked if we needed more tortillas for our fajitas. Overall great stop on our road trip! El Catrin definitely raises the bar for Mexican food on the north coast. The decor is simple and elegant. Obviously a family-owned and operated establishment, all the staff were friendly and attentive. The food and service were both excellent. The ubiquitous "order by number with rice and beans" menu items were nowhere to be found, replaced instead by a modest selection of hand crafted plates, each with their own unique flair. With an upscale presentation and flavors to match, one might expect a hefty price tag as well, but the prices were extremely reasonable. My husband and I will definitely be back! read more

You might be tempted to go somewhere and sit on the water when you're staying on the Oregon coast, but you would be missing out on amazing meal. El Catrin is some of the best Mexican food I'd ever had. The tacos are all amazing my group sampled a bunch, my personal favorite was the pastor. But really you can't go wrong with any of them. Tamales and flautas are also super favorable and quite a deal at 3.50 and 9.50 respectively. Really don't get caught up in the atmosphere of the coast, instead spend your evening in a shopping center having great homemade Mexican. read more

The owner is always there and the staff that cooks, right by the front door, greets you, when they don't have their heads down cooking delicious food. The food is not American style Mexican food.
