This place is amazingly delicious. My name is Shannon and I'm officially addicted to this place. I've been here 3 times in a week! It's so damn wonderful, truly. The owner is always there and the staff that cooks, right by the front door, greets you, when they don't have their heads down cooking delicious food. The food is not American style Mexican food. It's not smothered in cheese and retried beans. The margaritas are beyond delicious, as well. We've been in this area for 13 years and sadly, hadn't tried this place before. Great food, service, and atmosphere. Located in a strip mall, it looks like a hole-in-the-wall from the outside. But the interior is pretty, warm, and cozy with only half a dozen or so small tables. The two page menu didn't have the typical cheap combo plates you often see at Mexican restaurants. Menu, including several specialities, included tamales, burritos, tacos, enchiladas, menudo, mole, chilaquiles, tortilla soup, nachos, and ceviche. Numerous types of meat to choose from. Was a little concerned seeing mozzerella cheese on the menu, but it tasted fine in my dinner. No free chips and salsa, but they do bring you four big squeeze bottles of sauces with your meal. Two red, two green, and they each have their own distinct flavors...all very good and fresh tasting! I had a burrito with asada ($9.95) and was happy to see that it was big and grilled. Nice balance of meat, cheese, rice, and beans, with a drizzle of sour cream. Very filling and flavorful and I even noticed that the tortilla was better than normal. It came with a side of lettuce/veggies that I could have done without. Easily the best Mexican food I've had so far on the North Oregon Coast. Service was attentive. The Mexican food here was unique. We had a tamale as an appetizer for $2.95. It was delicious! I had beef filled empanadas which had the lightest shells. Almost like a Mexican phyllo shell. my husband had enchiladas topped with Mole sauce. They served these dishes with sauces on the side that ranged from mild to habanero!! It was unique to me that one of the sauces was a guacamole sauce in a squeeze bottle. Everything was very good and plated creatively. I also enjoyed a cilantro margarita. What really made this place special was how excited they were about their food and service. It was a happy environment. They had 4+ specials that day witch was a little confusing. But I think they might still be trying to perfect there menu. Now to get to the food. I had a tamale and beef nachos. The tamale was DELICIOUS and only $2.50. Our meal came out with four different kinds of house made salsa and I had a lot of fun deciding witch one I liked best( there all fantastic) but I'm a verde girl. This place is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant around Clatsop County. Everything tastes so fresh, and cooked perfectly. They definitely also have the most fresh and delicious guacamole I've ever had in a restaurant. I've tried multiple things here and my favorite at the moment is the floutas! My husbands go to is the carne asada or al pastor quesadilla with the habanero salsa you have to specially ask for :) he used to work at this restaurant when the previous owner was running it, and said most things are the same and still just as delicious! Definitely my go to when I'm craving fresh, authentic Mexican cuisine. The customer service is always awesome as well, kind and on top of their job servers. They are on the menu as an appetizer but were a very tasty meal of three served with delicious guacamole, small amount of shredded lettuce with purple cabbage, Mexican sour cream & pico de Gallo. Hubby had a Torta with freshly grilled beef steak & he was also extremely impressed. In fact if we lived closer he probably would have gone there for dinner! Another winner thanks to Yelp! This gem of a place is hard to find (look for Aaron's Furniture rental off hwy 101 ) but well worth the effort. A great dish involves not only a balance of flavors, but a beautiful presentation too ..El Catrin covered the bases. Dinner started with a delicious cucumber margarita (made w/Jose Cuervo) served with a salt and chili rim..as good as just about any I have had in many a fine dining spot($9.95)..a nice balance of lime, cucumber and tequila. We shared the flauta's after reading a prior review and seeing the pics- they were tasty​ and the 5 piece portion was very fair for the $9.95 price tag. We then had a special Mahi Mahi dish with shrimp, mushrooms and garlic that was seriously one if the best fish dishes we have had in a long time, and at $15.95 it was a bargain ..I wanted to go back the next day to have it again it was that good. Next was a pork pastor taco, one of the dishes I use to judge how good a Mexican restaurant is. This was nicely spiced, lean meat (I've had a lot of greasy pastor) and served on two tortillas regular and blue corn , along with a small side of charro style pinto beans for $3.50 . The two tortillas made it easy to share and split . We finished up with a flan topped chocolate cake that was also outstanding..garnished with some berry and chocolate sauce for another gorgeous presentation. The owners are planning on expanding to the place next door, so hopefully their signage will be more visible from the street. read more
