In my opinion the best Mexican Restaurant on the north coast. Always good food and excellent staff. I'll eat here again.

We had a wonderful family lunch at El Tapatio and will definitely be back! I ordered the tostada, and it was absolutely delicious. I especially loved the fresh radishes and cucumber garnish, a refreshing touch. My son ordered the Colorado Burrito with shredded beef, his girlfriend had the Super Burrito, and my granddaughter enjoyed a taco with the two-enchilada combination. Everything looked fantastic. The menu is huge, with so many tempting choices that it was hard to decide. I originally planned on ordering the chile relleno but decided to try something different this time, and I'm glad I did. The complimentary chips came with two different salsas, and both were excellent. One salsa had mushrooms, onions, and what I believe were tomatillos, giving it a unique flavor that was absolutely delicious. It was a nice change from the typical restaurant salsa. One thing worth mentioning is the portion sizes. The burritos are enormous and could easily be shared between two people while still leaving everyone satisfied. We were seated in a booth overlooking the Columbia River, which made for a beautiful setting and added to the experience. A few minor drawbacks: Because it was a warm day, the doors were left open, and there were quite a few flies near the entrance and inside the restaurant. None bothered us where we were seated, but it was noticeable when entering. Parking can also be a little tight, especially if you drive a larger vehicle. There is one handicap parking space near the entrance. Families with young children should also be aware that the stairs to the lower level are directly in front of the entrance without a gate or barrier, so it's something to keep an eye on. Overall, the excellent food, generous portions, friendly atmosphere, and beautiful river view far outweighed those small concerns. We're already looking forward to our next visit. read more

A real gem of a restaurant. Every thing is just great, food, service, location, all the things! Our favorite is 43A, roast pork knuckle. A super find, one of the only places in the US that we've found this dish. Love the margaritas, could do without the televisions. read more

My husband and I suddenly became sick all night after dining at the restaurant. We had 2 cocktails along with it. I had the chile relleno with an enchilada, and my husband had a tostada. It seems it is a family-owned restaurant, and we like to support locals, but if the restaurant serves food that isn't fresh, it becomes a problem. Luckily after 2 days we feel a bit better. We don't recommend the restaurant at all!! read more

The place was very busy on New Years Eve dinner. The service is not friendly. Rushed and rude. The food is typical bland Mex. It is on a second floor with limited parking out front on the hill. The interior is just ugly. No view. Tried it, Hated it, will try other places. read more

They never disappoint! We all enjoyed our meals from El Tapatio! I tried the enchiladas with white sauce. DELICIOUS!! My husband had the Burito, which he always gets and loves every time, and my Father in Law gad the green Chile I'm not sure how it's spelt or what the original name it is. But wow I loved it! Wow, just wow. Moved from LA to Portland and have been desperate for authentic Mexican food. No luck in Portland, but what do you know, amazing Mexican does exist, it's just in Astoria! Service was outstanding, fast and super friendly. Large drinks that weren't just filler. Asada tacos were excellent, my friend got the asada burrito and was also in heaven. Plus free chips and salsa? Best Mexican food I've had in so long that I could cry. The salsa is fantastic. The chips are fresh. Ordered the carne asada- perfection! The steak was thin, and rich in flavor, cooked perfectly. Love the grilled jalapeno on top. Great rice and beans, and fresh corn tortillas. The place is pretty inside, also, lovely art on the walls. I need to come here more often. read more

Terrible service & the food is even worse. Server can't remember to bring anything you ask, cold bland food, terrible margaritas just sugar & tequila. Wife's food was served cold & then they brought it out cold again after we told them it was cold the first time. Forgot to bring our drinks. The true good owners of a restaurant go to the tables and make sure everything is good , plus loudly encourage an item on the menu - this family owned restaurant is just that ! We must have been asked 10x + how is everything (it was close to closing time so maybe they were trying to get rid of us ) . Great food , great drinks - I do recommend! read more

Ordered the taco and 2 enchilada platter to go. Was disappointed they didn't wrap the taco separately so it was soggy and gross. Also they served it on a paper plate wrapped in foil. I was staying in a hotel and was unable to reheat my leftovers the next day. We ordered two meals and they gave us 1 2 Oz portion cup of salsa. Pretty disappointed over all. read more

Drove from SF to Astoria, And after a long trip, we found this place. So well worth it. Every single staff member was very friendly, and quickly to make me and my family feel like home. The food was amazing and well worth it! We tried from the super burrito to one of their combinations plates and every single plate was delicious. The ambience of the restaurant was so welcoming. Excellent service and great tasting food. The two salsas are unique and have complex tastes, not just hot spice. Seafood chili rellanó was a hit. As was the chicken mole enchilada plate. The chips were crisp and perfect with avocado. When you want a break from the usual seafood fare this is an excellent choice. read more

I love this place. My favorite restaurant in town. The food is so fucking good. I've never had a bad experience here. The free salsa and chips are always warm and delicious (some days they also give free ceviche ). I pretty much always get the carne asada plate but my partner gets something different every time and I always try it. Never disappointed. My appetizer rec is queso fundido with chorizo. Walked into the restaurant and it smelled overwhelmingly of Marijuana. Why not smoke it before work away from the restaurant. It's literally called a family restaurant but the employees need to smoke pot while at work? My kids don't need to bathe in clouds of smoke before their meal. read more

Very welcoming, friendly environment. This restaurant was recommended to me and I was skeptical. I have been very lucky to have enjoyed amazing Mexican food in my lifetime. I can say that I was pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and everything tasted fresh. I dined in the main restaurant area, so I can't speak for the Cantina. The restaurant was busy but not jam packed. My margarita (Cadillac) was ordered and served within minutes and it was goooooood.
