My husband and I suddenly became sick all night after dining at the restaurant. We had 2 cocktails along with it. I had the chile relleno with an enchilada, and my husband had a tostada. It seems it is a family-owned restaurant, and we like to support locals, but if the restaurant serves food that isn't fresh, it becomes a problem. Luckily after 2 days we feel a bit better. We don't recommend the restaurant at all!! read more

The place was very busy on New Years Eve dinner. The service is not friendly. Rushed and rude. The food is typical bland Mex. It is on a second floor with limited parking out front on the hill. The interior is just ugly. No view. Tried it, Hated it, will try other places. read more

They never disappoint! We all enjoyed our meals from El Tapatio! I tried the enchiladas with white sauce. DELICIOUS!! My husband had the Burito, which he always gets and loves every time, and my Father in Law gad the green Chile I'm not sure how it's spelt or what the original name it is. But wow I loved it! And want to order that next time 10/10 The service and Ambiance were lovely. Staff are awesome, and it's a real family friendly place. read more

Wow, just wow. Moved from LA to Portland and have been desperate for authentic Mexican food. No luck in Portland, but what do you know, amazing Mexican does exist, it's just in Astoria! Service was outstanding, fast and super friendly. Large drinks that weren't just filler. Asada tacos were excellent, my friend got the asada burrito and was also in heaven. Plus free chips and salsa? Terrible service & the food is even worse. Server can't remember to bring anything you ask, cold bland food, terrible margaritas just sugar & tequila. Wife's food was served cold & then they brought it out cold again after we told them it was cold the first time. Forgot to bring our drinks. Best Mexican food I've had in so long that I could cry. The salsa is fantastic. The chips are fresh. Ordered the carne asada- perfection! The steak was thin, and rich in flavor, cooked perfectly. Love the grilled jalapeno on top. Great rice and beans, and fresh corn tortillas. The place is pretty inside, also, lovely art on the walls. I need to come here more often. read more

The true good owners of a restaurant go to the tables and make sure everything is good , plus loudly encourage an item on the menu - this family owned restaurant is just that ! We must have been asked 10x + how is everything (it was close to closing time so maybe they were trying to get rid of us ) . Great food , great drinks - I do recommend! read more

Ordered the taco and 2 enchilada platter to go. Was disappointed they didn't wrap the taco separately so it was soggy and gross. Also they served it on a paper plate wrapped in foil. I was staying in a hotel and was unable to reheat my leftovers the next day. We ordered two meals and they gave us 1 2 Oz portion cup of salsa. Pretty disappointed over all. read more

Drove from SF to Astoria, And after a long trip, we found this place. So well worth it. Every single staff member was very friendly, and quickly to make me and my family feel like home. The food was amazing and well worth it! We tried from the super burrito to one of their combinations plates and every single plate was delicious. The ambience of the restaurant was so welcoming. Staff were Super Great the first guy was the Best ever we had here and very friendly the younger guy came on as we were leaving but helped with to go container for big plate of Nachos with their best Salsa which we got extra for our stay at Comfort inn our 2nd day in Astoria. Excellent service and great tasting food. The two salsas are unique and have complex tastes, not just hot spice. Seafood chili rellanó was a hit. As was the chicken mole enchilada plate. The chips were crisp and perfect with avocado. When you want a break from the usual seafood fare this is an excellent choice. read more

I love this place. My favorite restaurant in town. The food is so fucking good. I've never had a bad experience here. The free salsa and chips are always warm and delicious (some days they also give free ceviche ). Walked into the restaurant and it smelled overwhelmingly of Marijuana. Why not smoke it before work away from the restaurant. It's literally called a family restaurant but the employees need to smoke pot while at work? My kids don't need to bathe in clouds of smoke before their meal. read more

Very welcoming, friendly environment. This restaurant was recommended to me and I was skeptical. I have been very lucky to have enjoyed amazing Mexican food in my lifetime. I can say that I was pleasantly surprised. The food was very good and everything tasted fresh. I dined in the main restaurant area, so I can't speak for the Cantina. The restaurant was busy but not jam packed. My margarita (Cadillac) was ordered and served within minutes and it was goooooood. If you are interested in Mexican food while in Astoria, I absolutely recommend this place. read more

Don't recommend. We called the restaurant to make a reservation. The woman on the phone said they don't take reservations - fine, understandable - but she would take our name down. We head over and tell the girl at the register we called ahead. She had no clue what we were talking about. Turns out the woman on the phone shouldn't have taken our name down, but it was her first day. Totally get it, but the staff was very aloof about the situation. I would have hoped for a more friendly explanation. We were told the margaritas were fantastic. They were awful. When one of us immediately ordered a beer after tasting the margarita the server should have addressed that and asked if the drinks were okay. No one drank their margs. Each time we needed something the staff would immediately get it, which was nice but they wouldn't acknowledge the request. It was almost like they were put out to bring us napkins or water. Two of the entrees were good. One was just okay. I had the tostada and thought it was way too much shredded lettuce on top. I was also charged for extra sour cream, but it looked like a pretty tiny amount. Overall, I don't recommend this place. It wasn't welcoming and the food was just meh. read more
