We came for a late lunch, not a huge crowd and didn't have to wait long, since it was 4th of July weekend. We ordered the fajitas Texan style, we shared this dish, our food came out hot and fast. We were pleasantly surprised with the food, we've eaten here over the years but today's meal was truly delicious and flavorful. There was plenty of shrimp (normally most Mexican restaurants only put 4 shrimps) this dish was covered in shrimp, along beef & chicken. There were plenty of crunchy vegetables that were not overcooked. My grandson had the chicken tenders they were a bit small but he said they were good. Our server checked on us more than a few times to make sure we didn't need anything else. We had a nice meal and the food was plentiful. They had served us a large basket of warm chips and the salsa was spicy. We left feeling full and satisfied.

Arrived around 6pm on a Wednesday. Place got packed around 7pm. Server was nice. Food servings are large, especially for the burritos, which could easily be shared. Friends had the Burrito de Camarones (shrimp) and her husband had the Burritos Deluxe. They both said they were fantastic and they had more than enough for leftovers. They could only each eat half. Told you they are big!! I had the Tacos Mexicanos, with chicken. Kind of bummed that all three tacos had to be one meat/vegetarian option. Couldn't mix, but they were delicious! The tortillas are advertised as homemade and they did not disappoint. I'm glad I went with this option because my friend did the combination plate of a chicken hard shell taco, chicken enchilada and beef flauta. It looked dry to me and she confirmed it was really dry. We had Shrimp Ceviche; extremely tasty but a bit more spicy than I would like, but still good. The house made sangria was ok. They emphasize it's made with real fruit but it felt like a can of fruit cocktail was just mixed in it. The restaurant is large, and plenty of space, so it seemed, but you can order pick up if you'd rather not eat there. Coming from the southwest and having travelled to Mexico, the place was decent enough for a Mexican restaurant in North Carolina.

I don't usually leave a review for places but for this restaurant I had to!! Salsa was some of the best I ever had!! And from what you can see the Asada Tacos were definitely a favorite of mine. Service was great even though a lot of people came to the restaurant, I especially appreciated the choices the waitress gave us, letting us pick our own table. If I am back in town, I would definitely come again!

The food was good - expected for a Mexican restaurant ! I feel like it was overpriced for what you get . The restaurant was in ok condition with some parts of the walls missing etc. I will say our waiter was very nice!

El Cazador is a solid option for Mexican food in the heart of Carolina Beach just a few blocks from the boardwalk. The interiors are spacious with plenty of seating in the main restaurant and the cantina off to the side. Menu prices are very reasonable and they have a lunch menu with plenty of options for a budget friendly lunch. Meals start with complimentary chips which is a great way to begin a meal. We went with an order of the chicken and veggie quesadillas. Neither was groundbreaking with regards to recipe, but both were fresh and flavorful, which made for a filling and satisfying lunch. Service was attentive and extremely friendly. I'd recommend El Cazador for a decent family-owned Mexican restaurant option when visiting the Carolina Beach area.

My wife, two teenage sons (18 yrs, 16 yrs), and I enjoyed an informal dinner here in late March 2024. The fajitas were quite delicious and service was attentive on a Sunday evening. The word "el Cazador" is "the hunter". The interior of the restaurant plays on this theme visually. Location was great - in the heart of Carolina Beach's downtown with its own dedicated parking lot. I'm guessing it's a place that is probably crowded during peak season with a long line but in March 2024 (off-season), we did not have a long wait for a table!

This is one of our favorite spots! We live out here and have gotten to know some of the people that work here and they are amazing! The food is delicious. Anything I have ordered has been on point. There are tons of fun drinks to choose from. They added a roof top restaurant this summer. It has a limited menu but you should be able to find something you like on there. The burritos are HUGE. Francisco is a king. We love him. Kristina is killer too. They are usually working upstairs. This is a place where you will get fast and friendly service with delicious food at a fair price.

Based on local recommendations, we ate here for lunch. The prices were reasonable and they also have a lunch menu. I ordered the lunch shrimp quesadilla with rice. It was full of shrimp and very tasty. The pico was unexpectedly spicy, but went well when mixed with the mild salsa. Our waitress was nice, but it took a while to get drink refills or check. We walked to the restaurant, but they did have their own parking lot.

"Delicious dive on Lake Park Blvd in Carolina Beach"…read more Came here for lunch on a Sunday at right around noon. The place is dark and kind-of makes you feel like you're in the bowels of a wooden ship. There's a large bar in the center, and a few tables around it, as well as a few tables outside in the back. We were seated right away. I ordered the hot honey shrimp wrap as well as the pickled veggies appetizer. My dining partner got the quinoa grain and greens bowl with blackened tuna. Our food came out in around 10 minutes. The hot honey shrimp wrap came with french fries, to my surprise (didn't see that mentioned on the menu), which were fine. The wrap itself was DELICIOUS. MAN, that hot honey was SO tasty, and the greens and corn batter on the shrimp really complemented it well. It is a very, very messy dish to eat with your hands, so be prepared, but it's well worth the sacrifice. The pickled veggies were local and very tasty-- also a very good value for $5. My dining partner really liked her bowl and the tuna in it as well. The staff were quite attentive, regularly checking in, filling drinks, and clearing dirty plates. Only caution is that a lot of the batters are corn-based, so be careful if you have that allergy. Overall, would very happily come back-- great in all respects. I recommend highly!

I love spicy food, but it is hard to enjoy when your eyes are tearing up and snot is coming out of your nose. Drinks were okay. The bartender put too much spice around the rim. The condensation was causing it to drip down the glass, making a hell of a mess. Service was terrible. Were were the first people there for lunch. I grabbed a menu and had a seat and a different employee came to get my order. She was very nice and attentive. The inside was bright and lively with music playing. They also have outdoor seating available, but it was pretty windy outside with a storm coming in, so it was empty. The only downside to this restaurant is that there is only about 3 spots for cars to park near the entrance, as their parking lot to the left is completely blocked off with concrete barriers and the parking lot to the right is solely for the restaurant to the right of this one. I ended up having to park across the street in the pay-per-hour parking. That's a bummer.

This was the perfect place to eat when we didn't want seafood AGAIN and we were ready for lunch…read more We parked the car with the intention of eating at a different place, but we looked across the street and hubby and I must have been on the same wavelength because we both suggested a change in plans at the same time and said, "how about Mexican?" It was a good decision. Service was excellent. The chips were perfect - hot, crispy, thin and fresh. Their salsa is exactly how I like it - savory, just a little spicy, tomatoey-fresh, and with just the right texture. We were off to a rip roaringly good start. In a completely out of character move, I skipped my preference for authentic Mexican food like carnitas and instead ordered the taquito combo. Hubby opted for the 1/2 chimichanga and the kids split a kids meal of enchilada and cheese quesadilla. My taquitos were surprisingly crispy and not at all greasy. The shredded lettuce with pico de gallo and guacamole was fresh and tasty. The rice was rice - and my kids couldn't get enough of it. Hubby's chimichanga was voted "really good" by the hubby. His refried beans were tasty, too. My only disappointment was with the kid's meal. It was a bland quesadilla and a small enchelada. There were no sides - I would have liked them to also get a little beans or rice or salad or something. For a drink I ordered their homemade horchata. It was very good and only cost about $2 for a large glass. You could even see the little bits of cinnamon in the bottom of the glass. They also have a homemade jamaica (hibiscus) drink that I assume would be just a good. We liked the place enough that we stopped back on Tuesday night for $2.99 margaritas and to buy the kids a fried ice cream. My daughter was amazed that the ice cream had actually been fried without melting. For about $4 the dessert was HUGE with a fried flour tortilla, a very large ball of fried ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. It was enough for all four of us to share. Our margaritas were also good. Much more potent than I expected for the special price. Only drawback is that it had to be on the rocks and I like a frozen Margarita. But at $3 for 16 ounces who's to complain. :)

I was so happy to have such a good restaurant at Blakslee Air Force Recreation Center. When I recently read several negative reviews, I was honestly surprised because that hadn't been my experience. Last month, however, my family and I ate here and ordered two seafood platters and a shrimp dinner. Unfortunately, the food was nothing like it had been the previous year. Everything was over-fried, and for the price we paid, it was very disappointing. I chose not to leave a review because the restaurant was extremely busy, the staff seemed overwhelmed, and I assumed they were simply having an off night. I stay here for one week every month during the spring and summer. This trip, my family wasn't with me, and I was looking forward to enjoying dinner here again. I ordered the shrimp dinner, which came with only 10 small shrimp, French fries that had clearly been refried, and a cucumber salad that had no flavor. I don't normally order fries, but I remembered how fresh they used to be, so I made an exception. Sadly, they were not fresh and tasted like they had been cooked twice. It disappoints me to write this because I genuinely enjoyed this restaurant in the past and wanted to see it succeed. Unfortunately, the quality has declined significantly compared to last year. Based on my recent experiences, I won't be dining here again for the rest of the season. I truly hope they can return to the quality they once had.
