So glad this is where we chose to stop for a late lunch. Order your burrito at the register, grab a basket of complimentary chips from the counter, choose from a variety of salsas from the salsa trolley (missed opportunity for a photo) and find a seat. Oh boy! That's one mighty burrito!!! I got the Wok on the Beach and was NOT disappointed. I am so full I need a nap and not to move for a few hours. The fountain soda was perfectly carbonated and I was definitely greedy with the free refills. The decor is spunky and I loved it! Offering artwork from locals to view and buy. And now I'm fat and happy!!

Ordered the Big Jerk Burrito. Jerk seasoning was above average, burrito was huge. Pineapple Jalapeño salsa from the trolley complimented it well. Complimentary chips and salsa for the table!

We visited Flaming Amy's for a casual dinner one weekday evening while vacationing in Carolina Beach. Their concept is simple - you order at the front counter, get your own chips and salsa, and find a table. We started with the black bean queso. It was one of my favorite dishes of the night! For our entrees, I had a basic shrimp quesadilla, and my husband had a double ground beef burrito. The quesadilla used smaller shrimp, but had a lot of them. The filling was just shrimp and cheese, although I could have easily jazzed it up with any of their number of available fillings. This would be a great meal for kids or picky eaters, as you can customize everything. The quesadilla had a lot of cheese, and I especially loved dipping pieces of my quesadilla into the black bean queso. I also enjoyed the included sour cream. My dish came with rice and beans (I chose pinto), and both were good, although the rice was a bit on the crunchy side. My husband loved his burrito. It was fat and well-filled! Enough said. The salsa bar had a lot of options, and we enjoyed the variety. The atmosphere was spacious and comfortable. And the prices couldn't be beat. Flaming Amy's is a step above Chipotle, Moe's, or similar concepts. We'd likely return if we revisit Carolina Beach.

We decided to stop here on the way out of town. It was super easy to understand how to order. We brought our dogs onto the patio... definitely dog friendly! We ordered the seafood burritos can't remember the names of them. But we loved them. They wrote so tasty in comparison to the previous taco place we had tried. It's similar to a Chipotle but better. There was a salsa bar and we tried all that they offered. Everything was just so good and seasoned to perfection. If we ever end up in Carolina beach again we plan on going here! Can't miss it!!

Good service, okay Tacos and good local beer. Nothing out of the ordinary. But a good place to grab something quick to eat. Easy parking which is a win in Carolina Beach. The chips were grease and a little bit stale. The tacos needed more flavor. Good combinations but the flavors were not there. The restaurant was a little dirty. There were dead flies on the window frame as well. This not a place I would go back.

Everywhere we checked had hour-plus waits, so when El Cazador quoted us 50 minutes on a busy Saturday evening, we gladly took it. We grabbed seats at the bar, cooled off in the AC (which was working overtime in the sweltering heat), and enjoyed a couple of drinks while we waited. A cold Pacifico with lime definitely hit the spot. By the time our party of seven was finally seated, we'd already made a dent in the chips and salsa. Thankfully, the food didn't disappoint. Portions were generous, prices were very reasonable for a beach town, and everything came out fresh and flavorful. The biggest surprise was spotting lengua on the taco menu. That's not something you see everywhere, so of course I had to order it. The tongue was incredibly tender and well-cooked. My only suggestion would be to offer a salsa verde or salsa roja with the tacos--they deserve something with a little extra kick to bring all the flavors together. Overall, great food, fair prices, and a solid option when the rest of Carolina Beach is packed. I'd happily come back, especially for those lengua tacos.

"Delicious dive on Lake Park Blvd in Carolina Beach"…read more Came here for lunch on a Sunday at right around noon. The place is dark and kind-of makes you feel like you're in the bowels of a wooden ship. There's a large bar in the center, and a few tables around it, as well as a few tables outside in the back. We were seated right away. I ordered the hot honey shrimp wrap as well as the pickled veggies appetizer. My dining partner got the quinoa grain and greens bowl with blackened tuna. Our food came out in around 10 minutes. The hot honey shrimp wrap came with french fries, to my surprise (didn't see that mentioned on the menu), which were fine. The wrap itself was DELICIOUS. MAN, that hot honey was SO tasty, and the greens and corn batter on the shrimp really complemented it well. It is a very, very messy dish to eat with your hands, so be prepared, but it's well worth the sacrifice. The pickled veggies were local and very tasty-- also a very good value for $5. My dining partner really liked her bowl and the tuna in it as well. The staff were quite attentive, regularly checking in, filling drinks, and clearing dirty plates. Only caution is that a lot of the batters are corn-based, so be careful if you have that allergy. Overall, would very happily come back-- great in all respects. I recommend highly!

I love spicy food, but it is hard to enjoy when your eyes are tearing up and snot is coming out of your nose. Drinks were okay. The bartender put too much spice around the rim. The condensation was causing it to drip down the glass, making a hell of a mess. Service was terrible. Were were the first people there for lunch. I grabbed a menu and had a seat and a different employee came to get my order. She was very nice and attentive. The inside was bright and lively with music playing. They also have outdoor seating available, but it was pretty windy outside with a storm coming in, so it was empty. The only downside to this restaurant is that there is only about 3 spots for cars to park near the entrance, as their parking lot to the left is completely blocked off with concrete barriers and the parking lot to the right is solely for the restaurant to the right of this one. I ended up having to park across the street in the pay-per-hour parking. That's a bummer.

This was the perfect place to eat when we didn't want seafood AGAIN and we were ready for lunch…read more We parked the car with the intention of eating at a different place, but we looked across the street and hubby and I must have been on the same wavelength because we both suggested a change in plans at the same time and said, "how about Mexican?" It was a good decision. Service was excellent. The chips were perfect - hot, crispy, thin and fresh. Their salsa is exactly how I like it - savory, just a little spicy, tomatoey-fresh, and with just the right texture. We were off to a rip roaringly good start. In a completely out of character move, I skipped my preference for authentic Mexican food like carnitas and instead ordered the taquito combo. Hubby opted for the 1/2 chimichanga and the kids split a kids meal of enchilada and cheese quesadilla. My taquitos were surprisingly crispy and not at all greasy. The shredded lettuce with pico de gallo and guacamole was fresh and tasty. The rice was rice - and my kids couldn't get enough of it. Hubby's chimichanga was voted "really good" by the hubby. His refried beans were tasty, too. My only disappointment was with the kid's meal. It was a bland quesadilla and a small enchelada. There were no sides - I would have liked them to also get a little beans or rice or salad or something. For a drink I ordered their homemade horchata. It was very good and only cost about $2 for a large glass. You could even see the little bits of cinnamon in the bottom of the glass. They also have a homemade jamaica (hibiscus) drink that I assume would be just a good. We liked the place enough that we stopped back on Tuesday night for $2.99 margaritas and to buy the kids a fried ice cream. My daughter was amazed that the ice cream had actually been fried without melting. For about $4 the dessert was HUGE with a fried flour tortilla, a very large ball of fried ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and a cherry on top. It was enough for all four of us to share. Our margaritas were also good. Much more potent than I expected for the special price. Only drawback is that it had to be on the rocks and I like a frozen Margarita. But at $3 for 16 ounces who's to complain. :)

I was so happy to have such a good restaurant at Blakslee Air Force Recreation Center. When I recently read several negative reviews, I was honestly surprised because that hadn't been my experience. Last month, however, my family and I ate here and ordered two seafood platters and a shrimp dinner. Unfortunately, the food was nothing like it had been the previous year. Everything was over-fried, and for the price we paid, it was very disappointing. I chose not to leave a review because the restaurant was extremely busy, the staff seemed overwhelmed, and I assumed they were simply having an off night. I stay here for one week every month during the spring and summer. This trip, my family wasn't with me, and I was looking forward to enjoying dinner here again. I ordered the shrimp dinner, which came with only 10 small shrimp, French fries that had clearly been refried, and a cucumber salad that had no flavor. I don't normally order fries, but I remembered how fresh they used to be, so I made an exception. Sadly, they were not fresh and tasted like they had been cooked twice. It disappoints me to write this because I genuinely enjoyed this restaurant in the past and wanted to see it succeed. Unfortunately, the quality has declined significantly compared to last year. Based on my recent experiences, I won't be dining here again for the rest of the season. I truly hope they can return to the quality they once had.
