I downloaded and created an account on Yelp just to make this review. Food was great, however the service and environment was actually awful. Told seating inside was 30 mins wait. Came back in and told 15 more minutes. Came back and another 15.. finally seated "inside". It was actually their outside patio that was hotter than the actual outside seating. Proceeded to give us 1 small self service water bottle for our table of 7. Rationed water, flies everywhere, minimum 20% tip and had the audacity to ask for more. Unfortunately, just the tip of the iceberg for complaints. In conclusion, great food (and pricey) but terrible, terrible service. read more

This is a nice restaurant with a chef and a bar area, outside seating. The staff is super professional and accommodating. The menu is exquisite. We will be back again. We had to use an app/ barcode to park on the City streets. We split the Seafood plate, side salad and Cauliflower appetizer. They give you some hush puppies to enjoy. My family and I went there two nights ago and I ordered the Shrimp platter. I was just so surprised to see all that was on the plate were very little small shrimp and the whole plate was covered with French fries. No cold slaw. I was very disappointed. I think Havanas has potential. Atmosphere is inviting and fun. Food left a lot to be desired. $25 for a handful of pre cheesed chips and two mahi tacos didn't seem worth it when the tortilla was straight out of the bag and wasn't even warm. We all purchased the same thing but some tacos had shredded cheese and others didn't. Margherita was small, sweet (jalapeño), and very expensive for its size. We mentioned we were celebrating a 40th birthday and nothing was done. Won't be a place we would try again when at the beach. Came to Carolina Beach with our best friends and decided to have dinner at Havana's! With a party of 8 on a Saturday night we were surprised that we got seated quickly. Our waitress was awesome and very attentive! Friendly and kept the drinks coming! We had the shrimp appetizer either the chicken nachos. I personally thought the shrimp was phenomenal, the nachos average. Our main dishes came out timely and were hot and delicious! So disappointed! We have gone to Carolina Beach and dinner at Havana's three years in a row for our December Anniversary. This year we sent back our shrimp cocktail appetizer ( the color lacked pink and the texture was slimy- it's pretty hard to mess up boiling shrimp.... But they did. I ordered a filet with oscar topping, medium rare. It came out with no pink ( way overcooked) and the oscar looked like snot. I could not tell you the last time I sent anything back, anywhere so two items in one meal was unheard of for us. So for our anniversary I got nothing....and then my man fully lost his appetite. Our server was great and the manager was apologetic and gave us a free dessert, which tasted fine but seriously lacked presentation- unless you like banana sugar soup.... Never again. read more

Beautiful restaurant right on the main road. We were able to sit outside on their patio. Beautiful weather made this a perfect setting The waiter was very nice and the hostess was incredibly helpful. Even having to return a dish the hostess and chef were accommodating and respectful. The seafood lasagna was delicious. Balanced and light didn't feel overly stuffed with cheese and had plenty of seafood. The grouper was cooked perfectly light and flaky great flavor. The nachos were good could've been assembled better with melted cheese instead of the unmelted cheese tossed on the chips. Love this place ! Our go-to for more creative dishes and not the usual fried seafood found all over Carolina Beach. Ambience is top notch. On our last visit, a busy March weekend, Havana's was packed but the service was not affected. Our waitress was super accommodating, even bringing a complimentary dessert when I was asked if we were visiting for a special occasion, which was my wife's birthday. I will say our meal was underwhelming for the first time, as the usual standout shrimp and grits was not as flavorful as I remember and the consistency of the sauce was too thin. Better than most here in CB but not up their standards. Wife's pecan encrusted grouper lacked the encrusted part and was likely cooked too quickly at a high temp also causing the fish to not been as flaky as we expected. Every once in a while, even the best restaurants have an off night, so I'll be back. read more

Most of our meals were good - one of my boys ordered a ribeye and at the initial look, we all were not overly impressed, it was very fatty, he said it was the worst ribeye he's ever had. My husband recognized the beer glass he was drinking from literally had a crack down the glass. He mentioned it to the server who kindly brought it inside came out with a new beer, but then we recognized they charged him for another beer. Oh my gah. I was in a few weeks ago but couldn't find my receipt so I could shout out our waitress, Finny. She was so kind. We were there for all of it. She never batted an eyelash when we immediately ordered a round of drinks and about every appetizer on the menu. While we didn't need more food, we did. Oh, did we. Second, the 12 oz New York strip. Beautiful grill marks across a lifeless grey steak. It was edible, at best, but absolutely no "quality" whatsoever. The steak seemed to have been cooked from frozen, as ZERO of the fat had rendered, and was extremely undercooked. The meat was ordered at medium, and it was a grey purple, meaning high heat over cooked the outer, and the purple, COLD, center made me feel even more confident that this was a poor prep, and cooked from frozen steak. So good!! We were seated quickly and ate inside. Mahi Mahi tacos were delicious. I want to try just the fresh Mahi next time! My husband ordered nachos and loved them. My kids ordered chicken tenders and shrimp. I tasted the fries on their plate and they were so good - hand cut! Yum! One of my kids got onion rings - also delicious! We went for Easter Brunch, the food was terrible. First, all of our orders were cold and had to be reheated. My wife ordered a Belgium Waffle, which came with a very small amt of butter and no syrup. We started with crab dip which was actually pretty good so we had high hopes! This was short lived, however. The food is incredibly poor quality for the price. Sad looking steak with microwaved bacon on half head of iceberg lettuce makes for a disappointing wedge salad. This was the case with the shrimp as well. Scallops were off and the flavor was seriously lacking. My husband asked the waitress if the butter sauce they had paired with the scallops was sweet, to which she hesitantly said no. It was very sweet indeed. Bleh. Service was also quite poor. I guess our waitress decided we didn't need refills, nor did she need to check on us after our food was delivered. Once we finished, we sat around for 20+ minutes waiting for the check. We ended up having to go ask the hostess to go find her. This was also the case for the table next to us, except their wait was at least twice as long. Overall, the food is mediocre at best, the service is poor, and it is very, very overpriced for what you're getting. Would not recommend. read more

Very expensive menu options which included the mahi I ordered for $38. The mahi was so over cooked and tough I asked for a remake. They handled it with great care but the re-fire missed my blackened seasoning. I also thought the steamed broccoli and red mashed potato's were too simple and boring. Over MDW, my mom, aunt, cousin and I came to Havanas 2x! I had been years ago but it was just as good as I remembered. We sat outside at the high top bars. Chad Aaron and was our server both nights and he was a big reason we came back a second time! Food was delicious. I had the Mahi tacos night one and the shrimp & grits night two. Absolutely delish!! First time at Havana's today for lunch. We were welcomed right away by the hostess and were seated on the front porch. Server was very hospitable. Nice outdoor 'beachy' vibe with a more sophisticated menus. Mahi tacos were seasoned nice and fresh tortillas chips with queso sauce were warm and tasty. Hamburger was very large and cooked just right. The seasoned fries were amazing. The burger bun was soggy when served however the server brought out a new toasted brioche bun. Great service. We had a lovely night celebrating our anniversary on the porch at Havana's. The oysters Rockefeller were some of the best we've had - nice sized oysters that were not overwhelmed by other things..just enough sauce, spinach and seasonings. I had tuna and my husband had a flounder dish. Both nice portions and beautifully presented. Dessert was bananas foster which was a huge portion! Best of all was our waitress who helped us choose. She accommodated several special requests and was just lovely. I don't remember her name but she also taught preschool and I hope Havana's gives her some kudos because she made our time there special! read more
