I wandered in here after going to a job interview on the other side of this building. Service was friendly. I sat at the bar and had a coconut margarita and 4 tacos with beans. The happy hour on margaritas is a great deal! I got mine for $5.50! I just wish I looked at their little cocktail menu rather than just ask what flavored margaritas they could do because before leaving I used the restroom and out of curiosity stopped by a table that had a drink menu to look and they had 2 drinks I really wanna try: a Hypnotiq margarita and a black cherry mojito ! Oh well.. there's always next time..which could be tomorrow anyways because I plan to be in the area again lol The margarita i had was tasty and so was pretty much everything I had. My biggest issue was with the Pollo asado tacos I had and it was just that I felt the chicken was too bland. That could easily be fixed if you add some extras though which I didn't because I didn't feel like paying extra for avocado, jalepenos and sour cream. We had just eaten supper and wanted some dessert. When we asked if we could just have dessert, the staff was very kind and seated us. We got chips with guacamole and salsa and churros. The churros were warm with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. We would come back and try the real food. The entrees looked pretty generous. To start, parking near here can be hard since its downtown Tacoma and its street parking. So be prepared to do a little walking depending on when you park. A group of us came to celebrate a birthday. When you walk, there is a bar to the left and the remaining seating on the right. The service was good, our server was really chill and kind. The food was also decent. Oh man.... came in after a show at Steel Creek. Very slow service, but what's worse is we asked for vegetarian nachos and drinks. Both more than 20 minutes to arrive. When the nachos arrived, they were dropped off quickly and the beans seemed a little "authentic"... when we saw the waitress again we asked if the beans in the nachos were vegetarian and 10 minutes later came back to say they were NOT vegetarian... when we asked for vegetarian nachos....ugh. Okay.. read me out for a few minutes. Many things could be complained about, such as the flies at the bar or at first entry no one to greet you, but I'm not here to rate that. I'm interested in the tacos, specifically the quesabirria tacos(Quesabirria is a Mexican dish that combines birria, a traditional beef stew, with queso (cheese). The dish is made with red-stained tortillas, shredded meat, melted cheese, and a dark broth for dipping. It's also known as a quesataco or birria quesadilla).. I've spent a few years trying to find all the restaurants/food trucks in Washington that serve this style. I must confess I was hesitant to stay my first time here. Red flags but whatever, I'll sacrifice myself to try the tacos. It seems family owned and operated(not sure). Staff is polite and friendly, even though they seem to be a little overwhelmed with tasks. Let's get to the tacos.. wow Wasn't expecting to be blown away by them, but I am. Not a fan of this place - too many excellent alternatives. We came in during happy hour to meet friends for drinks & dinner. When we arrived at 5:30PM is was fairly empty, so we were seated right away and our friends joined us soon after. The ambience is standard for Mexican food, with bright colors and picture. The friendly server promptly brought us menus and we started off ordering some queso (excellent) and margaritas. The service went downhill from there. Again, very friendly, but not very attentive and slow to bring our orders. We requested water and more chips & salsa to go with our drinks while waiting to order food. We waited. And waited. And waited. She brought our friends' margaritas and we said we still had not received the water and chips we ordered after we were seated. She replied, "no worries". What?! Yes, we had worries because we were still thirsty and tired of waiting for our chips to finish the queso dip, which was cooling down and solidifying. We finally got the chips and the four of us ordered food (2 chicken enchiladas and some street tacos from HH menu, and a chile verde burrito and chile relleno from the regular menu). The food was all OK, nothing special. Standard Mexican fare of rice & beans were good. The Chile relleno was kind of small and skimpy on cheese, but it tasted good. Our friends ordered a side of rice & beans when they realized they didn't come with HH items. They were finished with their food by the time the rice & beans were brought to us - along with the long-awaited ice water. Our friends ordered another round of margaritas. She asked the server if they had one with jalapeños, she suggested a flavor that arrived tasting f more like fruit punch. I looked over the menu and ordered the one that actually has jalapeño in it. Prices were average, $11-15 for margaritas not on HH. We split the bill with our friends but paid for the queso. It came to $83 before tip. This is not a Mexican restaurant I will return to, but if you're on Broadway you can count on getting average Mexican food at average prices and perhaps some substandard service. read more

Friend and I stopped in today for lunch on a whim. We were quickly seated and asked what we wanted to drink. Their green salsa was not too spicy, and it complimented the red salsa very well. Can't beat the combination of freshly made chips and salsa. I had ordered the spinach mushroom quesadilla and my friend ordered 3 street tacos. My quesadilla was excellent! Lots of spinach and lotsss of mushrooms. Not to mention their guac was fresh, green and not brown. My friend had ordered the spicy pineapple margarita and she said it was great. I think I know what happened here today, but that is still no excuse for such a poor experience. Today was a holiday and surprisingly, the streets in general were empty. When we showed up, we were the only ones inside, another couple showed up before we left. In order to tell my story, I need to share a previous experience. There is a spot near me that has amazing Carnitas. One day I came in and they were no longer on the menu, when I asked why. The owner told me Carnitas have to be fresh, when they are not it's clear, so he always made less to ensure there were no left over. That said, it meant by the end of the day, someone would want Carnitas, but they were sold out, so he decided to pull it from the menu completely. I ordered the carnitas here and they were not fresh. They were clearly reheated and it's an item you can't reheat. They were tough, dry and overcooked into of tender, juicy and cooked perfectly. The beans and rice also were not fresh as they were dry and flavorless. My favorite was the half full basket of chips and when we asked for a salsa refill, it was $2. Who charges for salsa? Had everything been fresh and tasty, it would have been forgiven, but this was a huge disappointment. I had to stop eating and wasn't going to take my food home, but I figured it was worthy of the dog dish. I'm pretty sure I've been here before, but it was a different place then. My recommendation to anyone reading is Tonala up the street or Casa Moreno south of the mall, both have better food, but both also charge a premium, but if you don't pay extra for salsa or a chip refill, it's probably worth it. read more

Four street tacos and rice and beans, my meat of choice was Pulled Pork. It was so flavorful and fresh! Love this place. The fiancée always orders them on Uber Eats and we stopped in for a bite. He ordered 6 tacos with Al Pastor. I'm only assuming it was good, because he wolfed them down and didn't talk lol. Great place, stop by for a bite to eat! Located in downtown Tacoma, you'll need to search for street parking or a lot. Doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's decently decorated inside. There's a large bar to the left when you walk in with some TVs, and then the dining area straight ahead with booths and tables. The restrooms were clean and bright. I do have to say the service was really good and the folks came by to check in on us often. The chips and salsa were good. Warm chips accompanied with red and green salsa. They do offer happy hour menu items on the weekend. I ordered the queso dip and an order of shrimp tacos. The queso was good. More like a white queso. My friends and I all ordered at the same time, but my food came out almost 10 minutes later. When my food came out, the tacos were on a nice taco holder (3 tacos in the order). I was disappointed that the shrimp in the tacos were mini shrimps. Like the shrimp you'd see in bags of bulk, the size of dimes or smaller. I don't know if they were out of shrimp that were bigger or if this was served on the regular. It was super bland... no spice or any kind of flavor to it. The only flavor to the tacos was the sauce they put on top of the cabbage. I legit had to add the salsa verde that was for the chips to my tacos. I'm not one to return food back unless absolutely necessary. I normally suspect that's the way its intended to be served as each restaurant/chef is different and trying to express their individuality. Just across the street, one of my favorite restaurants did not allow people to dine in (!?), which prompted me to try Mexico Magico. The restaurant is spacious and they were able to seat me at a booth. I spotted my favorite dish on the menu and washed it down with a margarita on the rocks. Let me start by informing you that I lived in San Diego for 17 years and frequented the boarder for authentic Mexican food. Not that the local chains did not satisfy my Latin culinary cravings, but because "why not". In that time my pallet development drew me to those with real, in-house, and home made qualities. Mexican Magico does not disappoint! First- machaca con huevos is not on the menu... but they gladly produced a delicious plate when I inquired. Next- chile relleno is huge and delicious! I've read through a lot of the reviews on here, and I honestly can't believe that some of these people ate at the same restaurant that I did. The chips were OK, and so was the salsa. That was the "high" point of the meal. I got a Negra Modelo and my date got a margarita. The drinks were fine too. The food was below average. The meats we had in our tacos were criminally under seasoned, it was borderline insulting to the animal that was slaughtered so we could consume it. One reviewer thinks he's special cause he lived in San Diego for 17 years--I was born in southern California and lived there till I was 30 years old before moving to Seattle, my significantly better half IS Mexican PLUS I have a fully functioning palate inside my mouth, so I'm gonna go ahead and pull rank here. This is not authentic Mexican food. This is not even decent tasting food. The meats was DRY which would be forgivable if they were seasoned, which they were not. I guess if you're just looking for a beer and a shot on America's favorite día de Cultural Appropriation (Cinco de Mayo), then this is the place for you! If you want authentic, great Mexican food, head to El Sabor near Tacoma Community College or even El Matador in the down town area. read more

Truly one of my favorite restaurants ever! I always leave happy. The owner is one of the nicest people in the world! The food is always, well will knock your socks off! Even when I'm not hungry and take my girlfriend there before she has to work I cannot resist getting something and it's always so good! I even went here on my birthday last year it's that good!
