We don't go out for Mexican very often. We ended up staying in Dunn longer than planned, so decided to give this place a try. We're so glad we did! Both times we were seated right away. We ordered margaritas. They were huge and had a good flavor. Our server brought chips and salsa. The chips may be the only negative of the meal. They weren't bad, but they weren't great. The salsa was good. The menu is huge. It was hard to decide. We ended up ordering a Steak with Shrimp, a Steak Burrito, and Fried Shrimp Chimichangas. The Fried Shrimp Chimichangas came with an enchilada cheese sauce on top and rice and beans. The chimi with the sauce was memorable. I would go back just for that. Delicious! We finished with deep fried ice cream for dessert. The service was very good. Each server we had was attentive. The food came out quickly and hot. My only regret is that we didn't order the Burrito California. Both servers recommended it. It sounds good! Maybe another time. Relaxing atmosphere! Great food! Good service! Yummy margaritas!

This was an amazing find. We had been driving all day and stopped at a local hotel. We saw the restaurant sign and thought we'd give the restaurant a try. We are so glad we did. They have fantastic service and amazingly delicious food. The enchilada verdes was the best I've ever eaten. The sauce was amazing. It had just the right amount of spiciness and great blend of flavor. The seating is typical, but we were comfortable.

Definitely a hole in the wall, the restaurant is attached to a hotel off of the interstate but the food is delectable!! Definitely a great place to stop by for authentic Mexican food if you're in the area!

Ok place off the highway. Attached to chain hotel. If you need a quick stop off highway this is a unique option. Very friendly service, 4 to 5 star level. The enchiladas and taco salad were ok. Blah guacamole...first time ever not finishing a bowl of guacamole. Probably store bought? If you are in the neighborhood and no other options grab you, this is an OK choice.

Return visit one year later....we were excited to return to El Charro Grande. Actually stopped in Dunn just to eat here. It was a quiet Monday evening around 6:30 and greatly warmly by staff. They brought over warm chips and salsa and took our drink order. We both ordered entrees I decided on a house salad and a small tortilla soup and my husband ordered a combination. I rethought my choice and changed it to a large soup. The salad was lovely, even had a small scoop of guacamole. The large soup was HUGE , I wish she would have said something, I ate half and I still had a quart to go home with. It was delicious but way too much for one person, I would say enough for 3! My husband's combination, quesadilla and burrito was disappointing, they looked almost identical. A burrito in NY is like a wrap filled with meat , rice and beans. Oh well, we ended on a huge slice of flan, took half home. Would I be anxious to come off 95 just to stop here? Not as much. But still a nice place to eat if your staying in the area.

I kind of feel like I don't need to say much. This place never disappoints. They allow you to order smaller portion sizes all day long & they always make sure you get your money's worth. I ordered two meal trays and a side of queso for less than $21! Customer service is A+ & it's always fresh. If you're passing through this is your sign to stop! Best choice in the city for the cuisine, it's my promise. SN: I included the most up to date menu but let it be noted there is signage about increases. Doesn't look like the entire menu was effected but some items for sure.

I always try and stop here on my drive down to Hilton Head Island. They have some of the best Mexican food on the East Coast. They start you off with complimentary chips and salsa as all traditional places should. This past time I had the streak fajitas and they did not disappoint. I'd highly recommend stopping if you are in Dunn or hungry driving down I-95, it's conveniently located right off the highways and right across from a gas station so you can fuel up your car after.

The food is very good, but the staff is the reason to make this your regular hang out.

Tucked away in a strip mall, this spot is the definition of a hidden gem. Honestly, if I hadn't specifically searched for Puerto Rican restaurants, I probably would've driven right past it without ever knowing the flavor explosion hiding inside. The restaurant itself is quaint, simple, and unassuming... but then the food arrives and suddenly you understand why people keep coming back. EVERYTHING we ordered was absolutely outstanding. We were a party of 9, which can sometimes be a challenge, but our waiter handled it like a pro. He was attentive, friendly, patient, and never missed a beat. I ordered the mofongo with carne frita and whew... that first bite almost made me emotional. The mofongo was packed with flavor and the carne frita was perfectly seasoned and crispy. You can tell the food is made with love. I also ordered a jugo de parcha. At first it was pretty tart since they use the actual pulp, but they immediately offered to remake it and added a little liquid sugar for balance. After that? Absolute perfection. Great food, amazing service, and authentic flavors that hit the soul. Don't let the location fool you -- this place is worth finding.

The staff weee awesome and even brought us the homemade hot sauce (delicious by the way). Their chips for the chips and salsa are obviously homemade. Had to resist not gorging on those. This was just a delicious meal. The place has a wide variety of seating options for almost any size group. We also noticed they seem to do a brisk takeout business as well. El Carbonero is quite casual, this is not a fancy spot. There were families and workers enjoying their freshly made pupusas. They only take cash, so be prepared. I am compelled to remind every resident and every visitor to make this a "must go to and enjoy" place for either brunch on Saturday or Sunday, or for dinner any night of the week. Go for the amazing cuisine, vast wine list, and stay for the outstanding service! Recently, we have found ourselves trying not to enjoy just our go-to favorites that are mainstays on the ever-evolving menu. We have been blown away by the flavors of the large plate option called Chicken Pimientos. Don't let the name throw you, because it's not super spicy, it just has a nice kick to it with delicious potatoes accompanying the very moist and flavorful chicken. The way the kitchen team at Barcelona handles the preparation of the eggplant caponata is impressive and very unique. Other favorites on the tapas section of the menu recently are stuffed piquillos, corn zucchini bunuelos (think fair food turned healthy!), Wagyu carpaccio, lamb kofta, and pulpo gallego. Remember that their tapas offerings rotate in and out, oftentimes based on the season and availability of fresh products. The wine offerings are unparalleled in the city of Raleigh, and when you visit for dinner on a Monday evening, every bottle is half-priced. Can't beat that for a way to jump-start your work week! We tend to sit at the bar on most visits as bartenders Kira and Cameron truly handle their bar with a welcoming vibe and impressive ease. General manager Jed is a visible leader of this great team and makes every guest feel appreciated. Awesome job all the way around!
