I had a very disappointing experience at Bar Louise. I visited with a group of 12, and while we…read morewere all looking forward to a nice evening, things quickly went downhill. When ordering, we clearly stated that we do not eat bacon due to religious reasons. Despite this, one of the girls salad's arrived with bacon. The server apologized and said it would be corrected, but while the rest of the group received their food and began eating, my friend and I were left waiting. After about 15 more minutes, he replacement salad arrived -- only for us to unfortunately find a bacon bit in it again. At that point, we asked to speak with a manager. Sara came over and apologized, then asked if we had been drinking and offered shots or desserts for the table. We appreciated the gesture and opted for desserts. However, her response was shocking -- she told us not to "take advantage of the business." That comment completely changed the tone of the evening. We were taken aback, declined everything, and just wanted to finish up and leave. When we later asked her why she felt we were taking advantage, she responded rudely, saying she had already apologized and didn't know what else to say. The situation was mishandled from start to finish -- from ignoring a clearly stated dietary restriction (which is not just a preference, but a religious requirement), to poor service recovery, and finally, unprofessional and dismissive behavior from management. Unfortunately, this experience left us feeling uncomfortable and disrespected. I would not recommend this place based on how this situation was handled.

This little bar is on the Old Conway Highway between Crystal Hill Rd and Morgan. You will see it…read moreset back off the road on your left (as you head towards Morgan). There are two buried motorcycles out front (that is the motorcycle parking). Over the years, this place has been various other clubs with less than stellar reputations (rough joints) but the place is fine now and the owner, Vanessa, does not put up with any crap. Thursday night is THE NIGHT to hit the beach. Port Arthur Band is the house band that hosts the BLUES jam on Thursday nights. The band, founded by Wayne Caldwell, features Gil Franklin (a fantastic guitarist/singer who can throw some damn good blues on you). This jam attracts all sorts of musicians and, while it is a blues jam, you hear all types of music. I have been going to the blues jam here for about 3 years and always have a great time. The place is dark inside, there is a bar you can sit at or tables/pub tables. There are two pool tables in the back. There is a semi-full bar (enough of the basics to keep most everyone happy). Rarely has my Patron though. There is a bar menu with some of the typical fare but we always order a thick crust veggie pizza with jalapenos. It is a great pizza. Friendly people, a good crowd of regulars and lots of new folks showing up. Everyone is welcome here and the crowd just has fun. The only drawback is the smoking. It gets pretty damn smoky in there some nights. If you cannot handle smoky bars, then you will not like coming here. While I do not like the smoke, the music is so good I tolerate it. Just recently, they added in a regular Saturday night gig with Gil Franklin, Jim Harlow & John Roach. Gil is phenomenal and this is a great Saturday night stop for some awesome music.
