We went for dinner, first time visiting. I had seen the reviews and I liked the write ups and the menu, which included many Mexican dishes like mole, whole fried fish, shrimp entrees, etc. Many of the Mexican restaurants around are just taco places and that is not too dificult to achieve. A good restaurant that makes a large variety of good dishes is a gem. We loved our experience here. My husband got a quesadilla and I had the taco salad both were filling, good size and delicious. What better way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo then getting a delicious Margarita and some amazing Mexican food!! The variety of options here.....might as well order a drink (or two) while reviewing their menu!! Too hard to chose but I went with a lunch special. Everything was so good!! Flavor, tenderness, heat. Perfection. However, the fresh, homemade, chunky guacamole was amazing!! Could have eaten that but the bowl full. The selection of margaritas is crazy too!!! Went with a mango flavor one and it was dangerous! I could have had a dozen, so smooth, light, refreshing! On year two of celebrating Cinco de Mayo here, looking forward to this becoming a tradition. Visited El Charro for a friend's birthday on a weekday and there was definitely a good amount of patrons and seating in the restaurant. Pretty colorful decor. I tried one of their margarita's and the cup was HUGE! I ordered the lengua (tongue) tacos and they were pretty good. Nothing to rave too much about. Portions were good. I like how they have an expansive menu and a vegetarian section as well. Server was really nice, attentive, and our food came out pretty quick. They have a good amount of parking as well. Hands down the BEST queso that I've ever tried! The portions are huge and you can always count k friendly service. Some evenings they have live music. Aside from the delicious margaritas (jalapeño-yum) and the queso my favorite item on the menu is the el gran burrito with extra sauce. read more

Rl Charro is a great place. The ambiance is fun with colorful tables and chairs. The staff is very friendly and attentive. The food comes out very fast. Popped by for a catch up drink with a friend on a Saturday night. The drinks were huge and delicious - we both got medium Sangaritas. We also had the grande nachos. The food is so well prepared and authentically Mexican, boasts my mother-in-law who was raised in Mexico, and cooked everything on your menu. The restaurant is very spacious, unique Mexican decor and food was good, nothing spectacular IMHO, but you'll definitely be able to get your Mexican food fix. I got the Horchata, side of tamale and the Burrito Guerrero. This was definitely a hearty meal, so I wouldn't suggest ordering a large amount of food. I also got the chips and guac with jalapeños for an appetizer and this was spectacular. It had fresh avocados, cilantro, jalapeños and a citrus flavor. I give El Charro 5 stars for the vast variety of regional authentic Mexican dishes you rarely find at other restaurants. Every dish we ordered was delicious and flavorful. My family and I loved the Sopas de Tortilla (tortilla soup), the side of cheese dip for the complimentary chips, Steak and Cheese Burrito plate with rice, and the Chicken Quesadilla plate with rice. The horchata drink was also well made. I've been to Mexico before and as soon as I walked in I felt like I was back in the southwestern part of the continent once more with traditional Banda or Nortena genre music blaring in the background, festive colors and decor including hanging piñatas, and old fashioned Mexican rustic interior design. Definitely a cultural experience. There's conveniently a huge private parking lot in the back. Our server, Marco, was friendly and attentive. They bring our delicious chips and salsa the second you sit down. The staff are attentive and make sure drinks are kept full. The margaritas come in three sizes. Regular. Huge. And monster. I get the regular and that's plenty. If I was looking to party I'd get the Monster. Ore theirs rje size of a fishbowl. The food is sooo good. I usually get a chimichanga. Probably the best Mexican restaurant in the area! It occupies the old Fortuna House Chinese restaurant and Mozzarella's Italian restaurant. I'll be honest the first time I tried them, I wasn't a fan. But after giving them another shot, I really love them! One good thing about El Charro is the food comes out super quick. Even if you order takeout. Tonight I ordered a Burrito Guerrero, which is a burrito loaded with fajita ingredients! It was ready in 15 minutes, and all their dishes to go come with a bag of chips and a cup of house made salsa. The sides are also tasty so whatever you order from here is a really good deal portion wise! They also have Mojarra Frita too, which is a whole tilapia deep fried and served with pico, rice, sour cream, avocado, lettuce and tortillas. Mojarra Frita is one of the most authentic Mexican dishes you can find around here! Also feels like a party whenever you walk in too! If you haven't been here before, I highly recommend it! We had lunch here on 7/10/25. Service was excellent - quick and very attentive. We had the Texas fajitas (steak, chicken, and shrimp) for two people - huge sizzling platter of meat and vegetables, and a plate of additional toppings (pico, sour cream, rice, refried beans, guacamole, etc) for each of us. I don't know why this place only has 3.8 stars. The food was really great and authentic Mexican. You get complimentary chips and salsa when you sit down and the servers were nice and fast. There are a ton of TVs inside so the ambiance is nice. I loved it and will definitely come back when I'm in Providence again. read more

El Charro is a charming spot on Mineral Spring Avenue in North Providence. Stopped here for RI Food Fights Taco Mania. The tacos were standard Street Tacos (meat, cilantro, onions, lime). They were pretty good. Pretty small portions though. The chips and salsa and the cheese and bean dip we got were delicious. Service was reasonable. Food was good. Will definitely return. read more

Salsa was tasty guacamole was chunky which is how i like it, and you can order it mild or spicy. My only complaint was the tortilla chips could be better I don't they were home made I wish they were thinner. Dinner was good I got the steak fajitas very good but we saved the best for last the churros! The churros come with ice cream and drizzled with chocolate and caramel sauce so good. I love this place so much. During shut down I ordered take out. Drinks are delicious, large and inexpensive. The flan and fried ice cream makes my heart sing. Honestly the whole menu and staff just brings me joy. They're so nice and always make sure your drink is full and you need nothing. My favorite is probably the chimichanga if I want something to clog my arteries. I haven't eaten anything I've disliked. Restaurant is clean, parking is free.
