I was in search for tacos around Newport, RI and I came across Tuxpan Taqueria. When you enter the establishment you are instantly greeted with a warm welcome. The service was pretty quick and everything was made to order. I ordered a pupusa, and 3 classic tacos (one pollo, asada and carnitas). Requesting cheese was an upcharge I will always pay for. My friend ordered the birria tacos for us to try. Everything was flavorful and fresh !!! You receive two salsas with your order, a verde sauce and a red spicy sauce. They were both AMAZING !!!! Expensive for a little Mexican place in CF. We had a michelada (yummy), a corona, an order of enchiladas, and a torta with lengua (+$0.50). It cost almost $50. There are maybe 3 or 4 tables in the place. The tables and chairs are very dirty and look like they've never been replaced in 30 years (idk how long this place has been around.) The 4 chicken enchiladas in salsa verde were on the smaller side at a hefty $18! Came with a scoop of rice and refried beans. Overall, the flavor was ok. The lengua torta ($12.50) was pretty good. Rating: 4.5 My second time trying this place but decided to leave a review. It's a small Mexican restaurant located in Central falls. I decided to order a head because the place is small and seatings are very limited. They have few parkings spot but street parkings are also available. I got some tacos last time but decided to get a burrito bowl this time with al pastor which I liked on tacos last time. Ordered it online and came at exact time for pick up. The food was ready and the staff made sure to give me some utensils, napkins and some sauces. The burrito bowl was a bit underwhelming than what I expected because I'm used to getting them in other Mexican food locations like Bajas. Portion was small and only consisted of meat, rice, cilantro, lettuce, radish, and cream. The upside was that the al pastor was good as I remembered and was a-lot of meat in the bowl. Sweet and savory flavor was perfect. The down side was that the rice was overcooked and too soft for my liking and the bowl lacked a lot of add on that could have made it better. Food was still tasty but would get something else next time. The service was good and the staff were friendly. Overall I still like the place because I'm a fan of the meats they have here. To say I love Tuxpan would be the understatement of the century. It's the first restaurant that comes to mind any time someone asks be for a restauraunt recommendation in Rhode Island. They haven't achieved my international recommendation just quite yet, but they're getting there, lol. You really can't go wrong with anything you order, but I'll give you my favorites. I usually get either Tacos, Gordita or a Burrito depending on how hungry I am. The tacos are rather small, Gordita much bigger with more protein. The Burrito may look medium size, but it's super filling. The protein I tend to go for is either the chicken (pollo), carinita or my absolute favorite of Al Pastor. Let me double tap on the Al Pastor. The meat is so melt in your mouth tender, sweet and packed full of flavor. You should definitely get an Al Pastor Taco classico and give me your opinion on it. I'll be shocked if you don't love it! The guacamole is also a must and it's made with some real avocados. It sounds silly to have to mention that, but there are many places that have some green puree thing that doesn't hit the spot and isn't recognizable. The refried beans is also another must. I can go on and on about their amazing meals. This restaurant is rather small and may not be the best for a large party. It will accommodate small groups of people and there are several tables inside. The staff are absolutely awesome. They're hard workers, great at what they do and the friendliest bunch. This spot has been one of my favorite taco places since I moved here. They're quick, serve pretty good food at fair prices, and the portions are pretty big. I always get the steak tacos. The chicken is good too, but the steak with a tamarind soda is definitely the best. Plus, the manager is super chill and easy to talk to. read more

I ordered several items, but so far only tried the following four tacos: shrimp, tongue, pork, belly, and steak. All of them are absolutely wonderful, especially the pork belly which was both crispy and tender. Absolutely wonderful. The tortilla were also soft and tasty. The tacos are a little bit on the small side, but they're also not very expensive so it seems fair to me. If I live nearby, I would go here on a regular, a.k.a. very frequent, basis. read more

At $3 each, their tacos are very affordable given how generous their portion sizing is, and their burritos are quite hefty as well. This place right here is the real deal! We are doing the Taco mania month from RI food fights and it was on the list. I never been here and oh man, I think I found my taco spot! It beats out all of the tacos I've ever eaten in RI. Actually all of the northeast! It's amazing! The staff was also super nice. The place was small but clean. I didn't expect much but it blew me away. I ordered the Al pastor taco which was amazing! So tender and flavorful. The chicken chipotle taco was also flavorful and delicious. And tortilla tasted homemade and sooooooo good! Probably the best tortilla texture I've ever eaten. And the birrias was just wow! Perfection! I feel like the yelp reviews are not giving this place justice. I was meeting up with my homegirl for an event in central falls. She asked if I wanted to grab food first and I figured if I'm going to be in Central Falls I should check this place out. I sent my friend the yelp page and yes the reviews are highly rated for the food- I think she wanted a cute girls hang and the reviews weren't giving her the vibe she was looking for. (Ok long story short I send her another place in Lincoln. So we go there instead. It was fine- margarita too sweet...) Anyways after we leave our event we wanted to go out for drinks. I drive past Tuxpan and see ppl hanging out enjoying that early evening golden hour. Sipping margaritas, enjoying the evening outdoors. They have a section of the outdoor area sectioned off from the street and parking by Some greenery... so it had more of a girlfriend cute hang then the internet was giving. We decide to stop in. We had already eatin but ordered some tacos and chips and guacamole. We also ordered margaritas. Food came quick, as did the drinks. The woman serving the drinks was so happy and joyful that it truly made the drink better. Idk I felt appreciated. Talked to a couple of self identified foodies who seemed like they came regularly. Everyone was friendly, I only tried the shrimp taco so can't comment on the meat options. Chips good. Drinks good. A summer evening with quality snack and sips- good. Tacos rule. It's true. Crunchy, sweet, savory, spicy (or not), they have everything a foodie could love. Tuxpan has all of that and more. We stumbled onto this place while heading for the Electronic Pinball Museum in Pawtucket. Starting with really anything on the menu filled with al pastor. We had both tacos and an amazing gordita. The sweetness from the pineapple balanced nicely with the savory pork. The carnitas tacos were melt in the mouth tender and flavorful. For me, the surprise hit was the gordita. A crispy shell filled with crunchy shredded cabbage and cotija cheese paired up with more of that awsome al pastor filling. It was a really nice contrast in textures. The service was great. Everything came quickly and hot. We chatted with the owner. He clearly loves what he does and it shows with the food. Quite the unassuming little mexican restaurant with minimal seating and location lends for one of the best culinary experiences. Stopped in this weekend for a quick bite and despite a fairly limited menu, the line was out the door. Per the recommendation of the cashier I tried the enchiladas and hibiscus tea, my wife the pambazo. The enchiladas were cooked in the most delicious salsa verde, I could have had that alone and been happy. My wifes sandwich was a unique culinary take of mexican cuisine on a portuguese roll, fun and delicious! Service was pleasant, prices fair, overall a great experience. I'm incredibly glad I gave this spot a chance. I've lived in the area for a while so I've seen a lot of turnover of businesses at this location, meaning I was a bit skeptical about trying it until I heard good things about it and these voices were right. Their parking lot was full when I arrived which to me was a good sign. It is small on the inside but luckily it was a nice day out and we were able to eat in their outdoor seating area. Their system is that you order the tacos at the counter, then seat yourself wherever and they bring the food out to you. We knew we wanted tacos but we were torn on which kind of protein we wanted. Ultimately, we tried a collection of them including al pastor, carne asada, lengua, carnitas, and tripa. The staff is very friendly, and were patient with us while we contemplated our options. I was surprised at how affordable the tacos are ($3) especially for how much protein is added. We maybe waited 15-20 minutes for the food to come out so it was being made with love. I was very impressed that the tortillas were actually handmade as a lot of places I've been going to claim to have handmade tortillas but you can tell are really cinco de mayo store bought ones. The tacos were so simple but packed with so much flavor. Surprisingly my favorite was al pastor, which I usually steer far away from cause I'm not a pineapple in my food sort of person. But the meat was really tender and it was sweet but also savory. The carne asada was well seasoned but didn't stand out as much. The carnitas was my second favorite as the meat was flavorful, tender, and tasty. The lengua was my least favorite but it was still good. The tripa was different from what I was expecting since it seemed more like fried chicharron bits but I was a fan. Their red and green sauces are tasty and add more flavor so I would recommend trying them. I didn't realize they offer birria tacos so next time, I will definitely gives those a shot. read more

Just stopped in here for dinner and absolutely loved the food! I am so glad I was finally able to try this place being a James Beard nominee--and boy do they deserve the nomination! I got the carne asada taco, the camaron taco, an horchata, and an al pastor huarache. Everything was so fresh and delicious--you can really tell they pay attention to their ingredients and let each flavor sing! The lady at the counter was very nice, and the interior is pretty cute. There is very little seating, however, so if you have a party larger than 4 people, you may have trouble finding a place to eat in. Many people seem to order takeout, so I might also recommend that (though you might miss out on the fresh and warm tortillas!) Will be back again and again--wow. What a stand out meal! read more

Absolutely this low key spot has taken my #1 spot for favorite tacos not only in Rhode Island but all of New England that I've had so far. Bonus points is that it is at a really good price point ($3/taco) given the quality. I'm getting cravings thinking of this place with its handmade, fluffy tortillas, delicious delicious birria tacos (get the dipping sauce) and tamarindo agua fresca that had actual tamarindo pulp in it. The service was so nice at this family owned home in the wall spot, and is mainly carry out (w only 3 small tables and counter space). I can't wait until they open up their new restaurant in PVD. The food & drinks tasted amazing, especially the al pastor taco, the tree leches cake, and the tamarind beverage. However, there reason why I didn't give them a perfect 5-star rating is because of their service. We ordered a carnitas burrito for here and realized that it was missing guacamole, cilantro, and onions. We brought it up to their attention and were hoping it would be remade. To our surprise, they came back with three bowls of the missing ingredients... Mind you, this restaurant only serves finger food so they do not have utensils.
