We tried this place a few times when moving here to Wichita Falls and it was ok at first but after 3-4 visits it gradually became so bad we just stopped going. There were roaches crawling behind the counter in the wall and metal shavings in a burrito. When we mentioned this and showed staff they shrugged it and f as normal and "it happens" I would advise you avoid this place. read more

I see why this place gets good reviews. It isn't fast food so you may need to be patient. Good food takes a minutes. And boy oh boy, the food is so good. There was a steady stream of people getting takeout at lunch time on this Sunday. FYI, if you don't want to be the only white guy in the place, this might not be you place. That being said, my wife and I never felt the least bit uncomfortable. What a fantastic staff and such a friendly clientele. Good food. Good prices. Good service. Good company. This is not a fancy place. Just plain, good, scratch made Mexican food. And you know it must be good because not only is Spanish spoken in the kitchen, it's the principal language of all the customers too! You order at a counter then sit or wait for carry out. They prepare food to order, but it comes out quick. They serve everything with a side bottle of house made green tomatillo sauce or blow your lips off red sauce. Lots of options here. All good. Awesome spot for authentic Mexican food. I took advantage of their taco Tuesday special - $5.99 for 2 tacos, beans and rice. I got one Barbacoa on the recommendation of the owner, and one shredded chicken (as an aside, love than I can mix and match). The service was awesome too - I always appreciate being given good ordering recommendations and friendly conversation. There was an extensive menu of other items like enchiladas and sopes (plus a new special each day of the week!!) that I can't wait to come back for. And as one last tip- their red salsa is super spicy (they did warn me!). Like even as a spicy food lover a little bit went a loooong way, I'd recommend just going mild for flavor OR getting one each of spicy & mild to mix it up and dilute some of the spice. I sound weak, but I promise I can handle spice normally and this is good advice, haha. read more

I've been craving a place like this for a long time in Wichita Falls. I'm thrilled that I no longer have to go to Dallas or dream about places in Tucson any longer. Few things on this planet balance simplicity and satisfaction like good Mexican grilled chicken, and Pollos Asados El Chaton has a seemingly unending amount of it. From the moment you walk in, the smell of grilled chicken hits you in the face, and while they have plenty of not-grilled-chicken options like enchiladas and tortas, I cannot fathom coming here and not overdosing on grilled goodness. Service was very friendly. The girl at the counter was very helpful towards the gentleman in front of me who didn't seem to know what he wanted. When my friends and I ordered, she informed us of their amazing Wednesday special -- buy a meal with a whole chicken and get a half chicken for free. That's enough to feed 4-5 sensible people or 3 fatties (we're the latter). The chicken comes wrapped in aluminum foil, piping hot off the grill. The meals come with corn tortillas, a green and a red salsa (green FTW), pickled red onions, beans, and rice. Some people might need extra beans and rice, since they only give you about 8 oz of each for the 8 piece meal, which isn't much when split 3-5 ways, but considering how much chicken we had in front of us, it was enough. The flavor of the chicken? Not complex -- just simply delicious. I don't know what's in the seasoning or marinade, but it's not overpowering; it is just assertive enough to accentuate the natural flavors that occur through grilling. It tastes like the kind of thing your family's self-appointed grill master might cook for a backyard gathering. The opposite of fancy -- just some good ass homestyle grilled chicken. If you work at the hospital, this place is so close by, and the food comes out so quickly if you get chicken. Way better than any fast food option, that's for damn sure. I absolutely love this place. It makes it that much better knowing it's locally family-owned. Although it seems tucked away as this little hole-in-the-wall style restaurant, it's no secret with anyone I know. It's always a must have for friends and family visiting WF, and it's a regular go to for my wife and I when we are craving a delicious breakfast (or lunch) burrito! If I could give this place 10 stars I would! The enchiladas are heaven, the rice has corn in it,and the staff are extremely friendly. The place is a little hard to find, I passed it twice! It's a few blocks off the freeway so if you're passing through this is a great find! The prices are very very affordable! They have $5.99 lunch specials. This is authentic Mexican food. I'm pretty sure these might be the best cheese enchilada I've ever had. Between Texas and California I've had my fair share of Mexican food and this is a top rated on in my books. So I came here because of the name "pollo asado" in the title which is roasted chicken in spanish. Once arrived I found out that they no longer sell what they are named after. I still gave it a shot since I was already here. The food is Tex-Mex and I had the enchiladas. They were alright but that's about it. The place is a hole in the wall, people are nice and genuine. We stopped here as it was near the hospital. We were pleasantly surprised. The barbacoa was delicious and not super greasy. We ordered the street tacos, barbacoa plate, and menudo. They have green and red salsa. The green is milder. The red is made with Chile árbol so it does have a kick to it. I would highly recommend this place if you seek authentic Mexican food. read more
