Very kind, Polite Staff! Went into there a few times so far and nothing but good experiences

I called before ordering and asked if their chicken tacos were shredded and they said yes. I picked up the tacos and almost every piece of chicken was in a chunk or cube and not shredded. It was also probably the worst chicken I have ever had. Also, their prices online do not match in-store. It was much more expensive when I went to pay in person. They also forgot my sour cream topping that I paid for. Majorly disappointed and never plan on coming back here again. The picture below is the chunks of chicken that are supposed to be "shredded"... just from one taco too. Waste of money. read more

This is the best burritos and tacos I have ever had in my LIFE. The burritos are so huge and filling and DELICIOUS! The service can be slow, but that's because a lot of people come here, which makes sense. The ambiance when I ordered was fine and the place was nice. The only con I have are the tacos. It's not the taste, but the size. Overall, get the burritos and if you want tacos, you will need a LOT. read more

El Chavis is pretty good. Nothing was bad but nothing blew my mind either. The enchiladas were especially good. In fact, they enchiladas alone made this a 4 star and not a 3 star review. Everything else was decent. Chavis Taco was good. Gorditas not so great. I think this place is trying to make too many things. The menu is massive. Maybe if they focused down to a few specialities and really made them awesome, they could take it to the next level. Updating my review: we ordered takeout from here tonight since my spouse is craving tacos. We did a 3 taco dinner (all chorizos), 1 extra chorizo taco, 2 shrimp tacos, 1 fish taco, and 1 flank steak taco. I've learned to accept that not every taqueria can nail the traditional steak taco, and moving forward, I'd just stick with the fish and shrimp tacos from here because they smack. Their chips and salsa is also really good, it made us wish we had more of their fresh chips since there was way more sauce than chips. I love this place. The food is excellent, be sure to try their Carne en su jugo, which is my favorite. The restaurant itself is charming, the staff friendly, and the speed of service is excellent for a kitchen of this size. First off I'm a chef store manager at a restaurant being doing this for over 25 years the girl in there very very rude on her phone the whole time I ordered the taco dinner the bread was do hard I van barely bite it the steak was so brunt couldn't eat so I only ate the fries which was the only fresh so I get up to pay for my food she tried to charge me for a taco I took a bite out of we argued about 10 mins until I said I was calling the police there so instead of her giving me my change in my hand like I gave it to she throws it on the counter wow I advise people check your food before you eat read more

Service is terrible here from the lady that takes orders. She usually works night shifts. I came in one time with my buddy and she took our orders and never asked if we wanted any drinks. She also didn't give us any napkins or anything. We didn't get any chips and was also weird because most times we came and she wasn't there , the chips were free. About a week ago in a dine in I had , I was given chips and salsa for no charge. I told her that last time I came the chips and salsa were free. The service is good the ambience is nice but the steak burrito is awful. I've been to this restaurant over the years in hopes that the food would get better. Needless to say, I was disappointed all but one time. I always get the steak burrito. If I go when they first open, which I did once, the burrito was great. If I go in let's say a few hours after they've opened, I noticed that they mix fresh steak meat with older meat which makes for an awful burrito. I've tested this theory out several different times. I consider this lazy and not thinking much of their customers. This was the final time today. I had to toss out my burrito because it was a mixture of fresh and older steak meat mixed. I've visited the restaurant at least a dozen times, I've never paid attention to my receipt. Today I looked at the receipt and noticed $0.49 extra and I asked why, the cashier said there is an extra charge when you pay with your card. I explained there needs to be a sign if there is a fee to use you card and could I speak with the manager. She said he's not here but you can call him. I called Salvador & explained it to him, he said that's his restaurant & his policy and he can't refund me the service charge. I will be looking into calling an attorney & reporting it to the BBB. Yes it's only $0.49 but it's the principal that there wasn't any sign informing customers. How many people have paid this & didn't know. read more

Just ordered from them today I ordered carne en su jugo and some tostadas the lettuce on the tostadas was blacker than the beans on it and the half gallon of meat was all onion bulbs everything went straight to the garbage what a big waste of 45 bucks I will never eat here again the meat looked under cooked and the expiration on the lettuce is what really turned my stomach I won't eat here again and I would advice no one else to either read more

I have only ordered delivery from here, but the several times I have ordered the food has been delicious! It is always warm to hot when it arrives and the food quality is consistent. I usually get the cheese enchiladas which are so tasty. Taco salad is also delicious and the shell tastes homemade. Picked up lunch from here today. We had steak nachos, steak burrito, steak tacos and rice. The service is very fast and friendly. The red and green sauces are delicious. They also give you a baggie of carrots, cauliflowers and peppers. The steak is very tender and cooked to perfection. What a wonderful addition to the neighborhood. I would give zero stars if that was an option. I ordered veggie tacos with avocado and paid extra for avocado on my 3 tacos. Drove 15 minutes in snowstorm there and 15 minutes back. Got all the way home and my meal was wrong. They forgot my avocado!! I called them and they offered my a refund on the avocado ($1.50). The young lady was incredibly rude and nasty and actually hung up on me when I requested a replacement meal to make up for their mistake as opposed to just a refund on the avocado. They just lost a loyal customer for life. read more

We went for the first time and had dinner. There is a lot of competition for good, quality Mexican food, and I was hoping to have found a winner. The waitress was very nice but not very attentive. The time between checking in was long and had to keep waving her over. She was very attentive when she came. I was extremely disappointed the chips were store bought and out of a bag. They were gross. And we ordered the guacamole which I found to be runny, not impressed. Really disappointed so far. I asked the waitress if the chips were homemade and she was honest and said no. She said sometimes they make their own. I asked if we could have some but that wasn't a possibility. I had a taco dinner, which was good. I liked the beans, the rice was clumpy. What a great addition to the OakLawn restaurant scene. I went to this location looking for the restaurant that used to be here but was pleasantly surprised to find an excellent Mexican restaurant. The restaurant is bright and airy with a really friendly staff great service. But most importantly delicious food the tacos are great definitely going back to explore the menu further. read more

1 star for great service and 1 star for variety. I wanted to like the food but I didn't. I placed a fairly large order and every item was super salty. A few hours later and My extremities feel swollen, I feel puffy and overall very sluggish. I mostly cook at home everyday. Was really looking for a break today. I called my order in, the young lady that took my order was very nice. Definitely great customer service, speedy service and a wide variety of items on the menu. When inside the restaurant I noticed the green salsa containers were on one side of the counter without a lid. The lady on the grill had a mask on but not covering her nose. The horchatas are great but the large is really a small compared to other places and their prices run higher which is why I only gave 4 stars. What a great spot. The food was really good. I had a burrito that was packed full of meat, the steak was cooked perfectly. My wife had steak, chicken and pork tacos, all 3 were excellent. The kids got quesadillas, they devoured them. My only critiques are I thought we should have gotten more chips with an order of salsa and an order of guacamole.
