I was looking forward to trying this restaurant, and we finally found time to make our way out to Oak Lawn. We started with the Corn Ribs ($12). They were fine, but pretty unremarkable. I got the Fish Dinner Tacos ($25), and my husband got Flautas de Papa ($18). I was eyeballing their Pozole or Menudo but didn't really want to pay $22 for a bowl of soup. Everything on the menu just felt too expensive, especially for being in a casual atmosphere outside the city. Quesadilla La Reina del Sur has a plethora of vegan tacos you can get for like $4 each. I was in the mood for dessert, but even something as simple as 2 cookies with milk would be $24, so we went elsewhere. The service was top-notch, everyone welcomed us warmly, guided us through the menu, gave us great recommendations, and checked in often to make sure we had everything we needed. This place has been on my radar since the first opened. This place has two entrances, it has a very well upscale theme to The restaurant with a fair amount of seats to dine in it. There were plenty of grab and go options too. Food here was ultimately pricey though it is one of the very few places in the area to have all vegan Mexican options. Staff here was mostly friendly. The food does take some time to be made which is pretty normal when ordering vegan items since everything here is made from scratch. Plenty of items I've never seen or heard of before. The burrito we had was incredible. Smoothie size was really small for the price that I paid portion wise. I'll just be generous and give four stars since this place has a great reputation. read more

Stopped in after flying home as they are fairly close to Midway and on the way home to NW Indiana. Sandra, the owner was so welcoming and she recommended the calamari as an appetizer. I'm so glad I took her advice, it's a very large serving, enough to share and was the closest thing I've had to calamari that I e had since going vegan 7 years ago. I then ordered the mushroom quesadilla and wow, the best vegan quesadilla I've ever had. The cheese had amazing flavor and the mushrooms were seasoned just perfectly. I topped it all off with the cookies and ice cream and had to bring one of the cookies home. Great dense cookies that had the perfect saltiness. This morning, I had a delicious breakfast experience at Abuelito Coco, a multigenerational, family owned Mexican, vegan restaurant in Oak Lawn. 100% plant based family! I was attracted by the mole tamales on the menu, I LOVE mole! And vegan mole is hard to find. They not only have red mole, they have green mole too. However, I decided to stay and dine in because of the pristine, inviting, and peaceful atmosphere. I broke my fast earlier than normal to enjoy something from their breakfast menu. I started with a "tequila" shot, which is actually a ginger shot with lemon, cayenne pepper, and of course, a slice of key lime, it did the job. The owner, an Oak Lawn native, sold me on the herbal coffee. Not coffee at all, no caffeine, just warm, healthy goodness in a cup. It was so nourishing, I bought the mix to make it at home when I wanted something warm and comforting. I chose their delicious Huevos a la Mexicana - so good! It was fresh, and yummy, and tasted like home, mainly because EVERYTHING is homemade. I will definitely order it again. The mole tamales, which I ordered to go, did not disappoint! I barely got to eat them because I was sooooo full from breakfast and the pozole Executive Chef, Sandra, gave me sample of. It was so tasty y'all, and it's only available on the weekend, along with the tamales and menudo. They have fresh smoothies (I sampled the In the Clouds - yum!)cold pressed juices, traditional desserts, açaí, and more. Please, go see for yourself. And look at the cute homemade tortillas wrapped in the handmade, embroidered cloth. Calvillo, which is embroidered on it, is abuelito's home. Usually concha's come up short for me, but not at this place. I took a bite :) They just don't miss. It was delicious. It was finally time to waddle out of there. In closing..... The owner is always amazing and there all the time, super friendly. Actually remembered us and what we ordered last time! Food is always consistent, the quality is top notch, portions are big, food is beautifully presented and you can tell they care about it. Just look at all the photos on yelp, the meals are always presented the same. You can see what your gonna get and actually get it! You need to realize you're at a real special place, you are NOT going to get this food anywhere else. So treat yourself, splurge a little, you're not gonna regret it. This place is nothing special just overpriced cheap junk food, mostly corn made products. Tamales are nasty and overpriced, they claim they use quality product, ok I've had better. Portions are small and they charge as if they were serving you an organic meal. Also they delete the bad comments on Facebook so instead of them trying to be better they hide the bad from you. Honestly, the dishes we tried are as close to home cooked Mexican meals you can get. The enchiladas were excellent, nice tasty flavor and not oily. The flautas stole the show however, crunchy yet not greasy, topped with fresh lettuce and vegan sour cream that tasted like regular sour cream. The tamales with pipian (pumpkin seed sauce) were also nice and tasty. We honestly weren't let down by anything. The vegan ice cream was also great. Im not vegan but I've tried good vegan places downtown and this place topped them. The wide variety of teas and cold pressed juices were also great. My wife has food sensitivities and yet none of the dishes caused her any reactions or indigestion. The atmosphere is chill and comfortable and the service was excellent. We got the tres tacos, corn ribs, corn in a cup, enchiladas, and chips & salsa. Everything was very fresh and clean. You can tell the ingredients are very high quality. They do not use fake meats instead mushrooms and jackfruit are used for many dishes which I enjoy since I'm not a fan of fake meats.
