    "Fish Tacos" for taco Tuesday!
    Erica R.

We had to come back for the corn ribs and fish tacos! Last time we got the "calamari" and that was delicious as well. Highly recommend! So many great natural products to purchase as well.

We have no words to describe how amazing our experience was. The service was top-notch, everyone welcomed us warmly, guided us through the menu, gave us great recommendations, and checked in often to make sure we had everything we needed. But let me tell you the best part... the food! I have never seen such huge vegan Mexican menu in one restaurant. Every single dish looks and tastes absolutely delicious. But the one thing you cannot miss is the oatmeal flan... OMG it's a total Must! My husband and I are already planning our next visit. Plus there's a small amazing store there with so many herbs. Everybody needs to go

    Calamari (coconut meat)

Finally had time to stop in for lunch. Plenty of seating and friendly vibes inside. We sat down and quickly ordered then walked around the front to look at organic/clean items you can also buy there. The calamari quickly came out and wow it reminded me of the real thing. Couldn't believe you can turn coconut meat into that and fry it perfectly. Even the cocktail sauce was spot on! Next came the tacos. Fresh made tortillas with a great verde sauce. Pastor tacos were full of flavor and the mushrooms were great. The jackfruit birria was a game changer. Tasted like the real thing. The nopales also had great texture. Rice and beans were so good and each bite reminded me of a home cooked meal.

Stopped in after flying home as they are fairly close to Midway and on the way home to NW Indiana. Sandra, the owner was so welcoming and she recommended the calamari as an appetizer. I'm so glad I took her advice, it's a very large serving, enough to share and was the closest thing I've had to calamari that I e had since going vegan 7 years ago. I then ordered the mushroom quesadilla and wow, the best vegan quesadilla I've ever had. The cheese had amazing flavor and the mushrooms were seasoned just perfectly. I topped it all off with the cookies and ice cream and had to bring one of the cookies home. Great dense cookies that had the perfect saltiness. Can't wait to be back and try more menu items.

The chilaquiles, and gorditas were delicious! I love everything that this establishment believes in and it shows through how delicious their food is! They cook everything in avocado oil and the ingredients they use in substitution of animal products is on point! Mushrooms, jackfruit, all functional foods! The owners are so sweet and passionate about spreading wellness and making sure your experience in one of a kind. I love coming here, even if it's just to grab a matcha (best matcha I've ever had) or a homemade ice cream! It's so clean and welcoming. They have everything you could possibly think of if you're a wellness junky like me!

After driving by this place so many times we finally got a chance to try it and must say this place is top 3 food places in the area! I will say I was skeptical at first but very very pleasantly surprised! I had the taco dinner and my wife had the Gordita's, both were big portions and weren't skimpy on the fillings. We also had sugar cane water ( one with lime, one without) and they were both delicious. A definite MUST TRY even if you've never had anything fully vegan.

Tamale in red mole, rice & beans. I took it home.

This morning, I had a delicious breakfast experience at Abuelito Coco, a multigenerational, family owned Mexican, vegan restaurant in Oak Lawn. 100% plant based family! I was attracted by the mole tamales on the menu, I LOVE mole! And vegan mole is hard to find. They not only have red mole, they have green mole too. However, I decided to stay and dine in because of the pristine, inviting, and peaceful atmosphere. I broke my fast earlier than normal to enjoy something from their breakfast menu. I started with a "tequila" shot, which is actually a ginger shot with lemon, cayenne pepper, and of course, a slice of key lime, it did the job. The owner, an Oak Lawn native, sold me on the herbal coffee. Not coffee at all, no caffeine, just warm, healthy goodness in a cup. It was so nourishing, I bought the mix to make it at home when I wanted something warm and comforting. I chose their delicious Huevos a la Mexicana - so good! It was fresh, and yummy, and tasted like home, mainly because EVERYTHING is homemade. I will definitely order it again. The mole tamales, which I ordered to go, did not disappoint! I barely got to eat them because I was sooooo full from breakfast and the pozole Executive Chef, Sandra, gave me sample of. It was so tasty y'all, and it's only available on the weekend, along with the tamales and menudo. They have fresh smoothies (I sampled the In the Clouds - yum!)cold pressed juices, traditional desserts, açaí, and more. Please, go see for yourself. And look at the cute homemade tortillas wrapped in the handmade, embroidered cloth. Calvillo, which is embroidered on it, is abuelito's home. It's personal touches like this that let you know the food is authentic and filled with love. Abuelito Coco is a real gem and a welcome addition to the Southside! I can't wait to go back and try their flan.

Tres tacos ... healthy, delicious, yum

Amazing flavors and super cool vibe ... in Chicago from Texas and found this place just south of Chicago Midway .... Great service and among the best combo of healthy and delicious ... nicely done and I'll be back!!!

    Horchata y jamaica

Abuelita Coco is a must try! For drinks, we enjoyed the the jamaica and horchata, both were great!! DEFINITELY order the calamari (even if you don't like coconut, this is a 10/10!). Açai bowl was refreshing and perfectly sweet. The asada burrito was a good portion with homemade chips and verde salsa, yum. Great vibes inside and welcoming staff make this place feel like your second home. Thank you Abuelita Coco!!

    Tacos

My only complain is that I don't live near this restaurant. Excellent service, flavorful food the way it should be with clean fresh ingredients. I had tacos with rice and beans. I also took a burrito to go. Both choices were great. The watermelon juice was refreshing and fresh. I hope to get the chance to visit again.

My dad got the barbocoa burrito and I got the Mar y Tierra-skirt steak and shrimp wrapped in bacon. It's funny bc I ordered well done steak and it looked burnt but it wasn't! It was really tasty as was the shrimp. A little too much salt and they forgot my tortillas. The guacamole and salsa were really really good as were the chips. They have a to go counter so it made picking up the order quick and easy. People seemed to be enjoying themselves while dining. Overall, would reccomend and would come again.

We arrived around 4 pm and there was about a 25 minute wait. It is cozy so there were people waiting outside. The decor is more modern than traditional. They have a bar and TVs. Staff are warm and friendly and our server was Dulce. It was a busy day yet she would periodically check in to see how we were doing. We ordered the table side guacamole. It was made fresh at our table and hubby added a little more salt to it. We were also served a small bowl of salsa. The chips are warm and fresh. Hubby ordered the combo fajitas and a strawberry margarita. I ordered the steak enchiladas rojas and a pina colada. Everything was seasoned well and we enjoyed our meals. Kudos to the bartender for making great drinks!

I understand avocados are pricey, but $12 for guacamole felt excessive. My $15 margarita was also a letdown--it wasn't shaken, and if you're someone who enjoys a good cocktail, you can absolutely taste the difference. For that price, I expected better. Our server was kind and approachable, but the overall energy and the ambiance of the whole place came off a little dull. It just didn't have the lively vibe I was hoping for. I'm glad I gave it a try, but I don't see myself coming back anytime soon. I really wanted to love it, but I can't justify more than 3 stars.

Cochinita Pibil served with plantains & cheese was excellent, which I ordered based on servers recommendation. Beautiful fajitas, great steak, and street tacos were delicious. I always appreciate when you can customize guacamole, as we prefer ours with no onions. There is a lot of local Mexican food competing with this restaurant, but we found their offerings to be unique and made with love. Bottom line, We will return. Room for improvement: * There is an intrusive flashing light that was visible from most angles inside the restaurant. We sat far away and it was reflecting dramatically off the window across the street. Beware, for the sensory overload sensitive. * In contrast to other reviews, we did not love the Margaritas. Very sweet, no freshness or lime flavor in the 'classic' just sweet and sour mix vibes. We continue our search for sublime Margaritas.
