This is our first time at this establishment. It is located along the busy corridor of 95th street and we decided to come here for dinner. We arrived around 4 pm and there was about a 25 minute wait. It is cozy so there were people waiting outside. The decor is more modern than traditional. They have a bar and TVs. Staff are warm and friendly and our server was Dulce. It was a busy day yet she would periodically check in to see how we were doing. We ordered the table side guacamole. It was made fresh at our table and hubby added a little more salt to it. We were also served a small bowl of salsa.The chips are warm and fresh. Hubby ordered the combo fajitas and a strawberry margarita. I ordered the steak enchiladas rojas and a pina colada. The ambiance was killer but the heat was death. Hard to enjoy the vibe unless you are sweating. Server with glasses was not a attentive to her tables as much. Forgot multiple items and just never brought it out. (Rice&beans). They need double doors for the kitchen to prevent the heat from coming out. My whole family was sweating from their heads, food was good but my enchiladas were not mild or spicy at all. Would be awesome to have more space to walk and a ton of A/C. I had a taco crave and so I allowed my brother to convince me to try this place. I did a take out order of 3 chicken tacos, barilla dipping juice, refried beans and rice. The tacos and sides were just ok! All taste pretty flavorless, too bland. I didnt get to taste the dipping juice because I relaized it had shredded beef in it. I do not eat beef. So that was upsetting, especially since I purchased two ala carte. The price of $ 21.64 was reasonable to be ala carte but I didnt feel it was worth the quanity of rice and beans. The dipping juice cup was smaller than I am used to. So, I had to purchase an extra one. The cashier was pleasant but spoke a little to fast for me. The ambiance was kind of date night like. Each table had lit candles on them. Kind of different for a taco place for sure. I am really big on decor but there wasn't anything Instagram worthy here. Based on reviews we stopped in for a quick lunch. The decor was so cute, great ambiance! I love that you can see what's going on in the kitchen, and the staff was so friendly. Loved La Cocina de Mama until the family added "managers". Appreciated being seated even though we were waiting for another person. We wanted cocktails. After 15 minutes we waved down one of the managers because NO SERVER came to our table. He pointed to our server at another table just starting table side guacamole stating she'll be with you soon. Really!?!? After another 10 minutes with NO SERVICE we left! Mind you multiple others patrons were seated after us and received service and their beverages while we had NOTHING. Soo the food was good, but the service and AC of the place was at a very low, I understand the servers have to deal with the same environment but the amount of forgetfulness and unattended we were felt almost as if the waiter knew she was getting a mandatory tip and stopped caring. I will give the benefit of the doubt and say with a mix of the blistering heat and MAD swamp ass in every seat there and the little hit yall took when a party's came in it can be stress full. No water was offered in the beginning and only while I felt as if the workers felt our frustration only for the MANAGER(it seemed) to come serve us water as we were leaving. I would suggest the installation or purchase of floor fans just to combat the heat. I accidentally spilled my drink on my food by accident and the waiter charged me for another drink and to remake to remake my meal. I asked to speak to the manager and the manager wouldn't come see me he said he was in the back and to busy and before you no it they called the police on me and told police I was disturbing the peace. The strawberry margaritas ($11.99) were INSANE, and made with fresh strawberry puree - my boyfriend said it was the best strawberry margarita he had ever had. And don't even get me started on the guacamole ($5.99 for a side, $11.99 for tableside made) - they hook you UP with a massive portion that's super fresh. The Burrito Cocina de Mama (steak burrito with chili relleno) ($13.99) is a total game-changer. This thing was HUGE and cooked perfectly - crispy on the outside, packed with cheese, beans, steak, and chili poblano. The staff was super polite, and the restaurant has this cute vibe with real candles that make it feel way more special than just another spot in a strip mall. My partner's friend actually recommended that we try La Cocina De Mama on a day we were craving Mexican food so we did and we really enjoyed ourselves. We started off with their camarones la cocina de mama which was shrimped wrapped with bacon and I loveeeed it! So delicious. I've never tried bacon and shrimp that way before so it was life changing for me. We also shared a fajita with the steak, shrimp, and chicken breast combination and I'm glad we did because it was HUGE (we ended up taking some of it home). The fajitas were very flavorful and filling. Service was amazing. Our server was super accommodating with us. We didn't mind the wobbly table but he had someone fix it for us when he noticed and I thought that was very sweet. I stumbled upon this restaurant while searching on Google "restaurants in Oak Lawn". As many times as I've visited the area, I've totally missed this restaurant. I asked one of the owners how long had they've been there. He said it had been 1 1/2 years. Well I'm definitely going to visit again. The food and service were both really good. They have a bar that has a daily happy hour from 10:30am - 4pm. There's also two all-gender restrooms too. Back to the food, the husband and I enjoyed everything on our lunch date. We had chips and salsa, which were fresh and hot with a homemade salsa. I got a pineapple mojito. This wasn't on the happy hour, but that's okay, the drink prices weren't bad at all. For the appetizer, we tried the shrimp which were stuffed with chihuahua cheese and wrapped in bacon with a chipotle aioli. My husband also got a steak gordita which he enjoyed. For the entree I got the steak, chicken and shrimp fajitas with rice and beans. The hubby got the chicken enchiladas. For dessert we enjoyed some fried ice cream. I have I've been to this restaurant six times, and the food is consistently top tier--but the customer service is a different story. On two separate occasions, there was steak in the shrimp tacos. Instead of simply addressing the mistake, we were questioned and scrutinized. They insisted it must have come from someone else's dish at our table, even though none of us had ordered beef. At one point, a Black couple sitting next to us was asked to leave. The owner claimed they were being disruptive and cursing, when in reality they were just asking about their food. Another visit, one of our water glasses had something floating in it. We politely asked for a replacement, but instead of just bringing a new glass, the owner demanded we point out the issue and began inspecting it, turning a simple request into something unnecessarily uncomfortable. We were even accused of bringing in outside alcohol--despite not having anything on the table at the time. It turned out they had mistaken us for another table, but by then, the damage was done. That was the last straw. I love the food, but when half of my visits have involved being treated poorly, it's hard to continue supporting the business. read more

We parked in front of the door and were greeted with a friendly welcome and generous seating. The place has a contemporary look with old school Mexican flair. We absolutely love Cocina de Mama! My favorites are their steak and chicken tacos (they do grilled chicken which is my fave). They also have my favorite rice and beans. They make their margaritas fresh with lime juice (no premade mixes) and they are excellent. Their staff is always super friendly too. We recently catered a party with them where the package was a per head cost, and they were incredibly generous with how much food they gave us. Everyone at the party commented on how delicious everything was. This is by far the best Mexican restaurant in the area. read more

We ordered a nachos and cheese plain and she bought out a nachos and cheese with chicken. The manager tried to tell us that he was gonna give us 25% off because it was a family owned business. I told him I refuse to pay because it was not what I ordered.
