Went here for some salsa lessons in the back area they have. The area is very large and long more than wide. They have very delicious tacos and i really enjoyed the shrimp and chicken one except they could have had more shrimp on it. The margaritas were good and the beets come in two sizes. It was alright. The food ranged from average to above average. The server was kind and sweet. The kids got free Jell-o with their meal. I had avocado enchiladas, they were good, no complaints. My husband liked his fajitas and it came with huge pieces of soft beef. The salsa was spicy and the chips were warm. The best bite of the meal was the apple pie a la mode. It was swimming in melted butter and brandy. Two adult entrees, a kids meal and two desserts ran about $72 before tip. read more

Decent food. Adequate service not slow and the order was correct. Good The problem .. they let an older man (cannot say gentlemen as a Gentleman would never do this) come in with his DOG!! On a leash!! Obviously NOT a service animal And to make matters worse they let him up on the booth where he helped share the food!!! I am not sorry for saying this. I love and have 4 dogs in my home, but they do not belong in a restaurant! And I am all for service animals. Not "emotional support " animals! Especially in a restaurant!! What makes it worse is the restaurant knew it and allowed it to happen! How many health code violations did that break?? What an awesome visit we had to El Chicos. My group, around 22 of us gathered for our monthly Toastmasters meeting. Our server handled all the orders with military precision. We requested that we be served our entrees before our monthly meeting started. The staff complied and brought an "army" of servers to deliver each and every entree to the proper individual hot and perfectly prepared. Our server and El Chico's staff didn't fail us. Everyone enjoyed the food. My wife had a taco plate, and I ordered a plate with 2 enchiladas. We ended our meal with chocolate nachos. Wow, everything was SO good. Howdy, Y'all! Woo hoo! Fall at long last. 100° is gone, and you better get outside before winter hits. Enough Youtube. Wife needs nachos. Haven't been here in decades. This place is still awesome, so it isn't their fault. To dang many options in the DFW. Can't eat at all of them and still get a chance to cook at home. The raod construction at this exit made it a huge hassle to get here and back home. Now the exit is open, and I'm here for nachooooos (Say it like on Nacho Libre, and it's way better.) Greeted through the door, so that was quite pleasant. The restaurant is super nice and has the right feel. I need to come back to sit here. For nachos, though, they carry out. Took my order in minutes, so the wait for to-go is easy peasy. Fully stocked bar for those who indulge. I wish I could drink, but I gave up trying at 19. 40 years and just can't start now. Well, I got the food home, unpacked, enough for two adults in the order. Nachos packed with ground beef, cheese, on top of crispy chips. Not slopped together, individual nachos chips each made with care. Side of Rice and beans. Rice was fluffy and light. Airy, seasoned. Beans were nice refried beans that complimented the rice. Ordered Queso with chips for dipping. This is the light queso I try to make at home, but just miss, so Youtubing their recipe. Don't judge me. Food was a nice temp to say I had to drive home. Didn't have to nuke it. Just a nice amount of spicy heat to make the nose run a bit, but not such that it will be hot the "second time." Cannot do hot out. Let's keep it real. All in all, I'm already planning a sit-down experience here. I love my small adjoining town of Richland Hills. This spot is a great little hometown spot that deserves growth. I would love it if they had a patio to match the food. I can imagine sipping tea, enjoying their grub outdoors on a night like this. We've driven by this place for years. My husband has been on the search for the best cheese & onion enchiladas around. They have to have the onions cooked in with the cheese. Not just a few sprinkled on top. He found them here! Great cheese pull! Steak fajita meat on top seasoned well & tender. I've been eating at El Chico's (different locations) since I was a young girl, and it holds a place in my heart. This location is almost always a good bet for tasty food at a good price. Their 2 can eat for $19.99 deal is especially great! We went and had some delicious enchiladas with churros for dessert, and had enough leftovers to take home an entire meal! Don't miss out on Enchilada Wednesdays, either, where you get 2 cheese enchiladas with rice and beans for about $6! They lose out on the five stars because our service is often a bit lacking, but we don't mind too much and just know that we don't expect to get in and out super quick here, and you often have to waive down someone to get a refill. read more

Sure, they don't have "multi million dollar aesthetics" but who gives a hoot when the food, service and company is this great! Henry always takes care of his guests at the bar, not to mention the staff is always smiling much less happy to help you. Don't shy away from this place because it isn't in some immaculate shopping center. I tried the burrito bowl with pork and a wine sauce for the first time at the recommendation of the waitress. Unfortunately, I didn't like it. Next time, I will try the beef version with queso. My husband enjoyed his cheese and onion enchiladas though, so that was good. We used to visit El Chico's back when we lived in Tulsa, OK. The food was good, not great but I had higher hopes for this meal and was disappointed. We really miss the Tulsa El Chico's and since my husband liked his meal, we will probably be back. We stopped in last night for a last minute dinner since we had been out running errands. The inside was your typical restaurant. If we hadn't seen the outside or known we were walking into a Mexican restaurant you wouldn't have known until you saw the menus. The complimentary chips and salsa were great. I love a place that gives me free chips and salsa. My spouse got the shrimp tacos which had three large shrimp in each. That was a pleasant surprise from the normal small shrimp you get in other places. Since he wanted an enchilada and I wanted a taco but didn't want to get a second order of tacos he got the three taco combo. I got the Wednesday special which was cheese enchiladas. The food came out fairly quickly. The tacos looked good but the enchiladas didn't look insta worthy. On the plus side they weren't the oily greasy enchiladas that you'd expect at that price point. They tasted good too. The rice was a bit bland but ok as were the black beans. While the food was just ok the service was great. Our waiter was polite and helpful. He kept our drinks full and checked on us just the right amount. The price since I got the special was also good. Overall we might try it again if some friends asked us but there are far better Mexican restaurants around. read more

I haven't eaten at an El Chico's since 2005 .. We were immediately greeted and immediately seated .. It was a party of three with my coworkers. We told our waitress we were short on time and she said no problem. We ordered our drinks and food. The drinks came quickly and the food did as well. I was shocked that it came out that quick. We sat down, ordered, ate and left within a twenty-five minute period. The place looked clean, old, but clean. The staff was very nice and very friendly. The chips n salsa were pretty good. I had the ground beef burrito with queso and double rice instead of beans and rice. It was pretty good, a little salty (probably the queso), -1 star. The rice had a good flavor but it was very dry, -1 star. My coworkers said their food was pretty good as well. I will more than likely not return as I love authentic Mexican food such as chicharrones, lingua, menudo, tripas and barbacoa. But to each their own.
