It was only a dollar on each (5 ) of our bills but they should have told us. Many Mexican restaurants provide them as a complimentary appetizer, so it would have been nice if the server had let us know beforehand. The biggest issue, however, was the service. One person in our party never received his meal. We had to ask about it, and we were simply told, "It's coming," with no explanation or apology. We ended up waiting so we could all eat together, so my soup was cold and I ended up not eating it and had to take it home. When the bill came, I asked what had happened. I was hoping the server would apologize or at least explain the delay. Instead, she didn't really answer my question. Only after I commented that they must have forgotten it, server said his meal had burned and the kitchen had to remake it. It would have been much better if she had communicated that to us from the beginning instead of leaving us wondering what was going on. Throughout the meal, the server rarely checked on our table to see if we needed anything or if everything was okay. Given the long delay and lack of communication, I also think it would have been a nice gesture to either comp the delayed meal or at least remove the charge for the chips and salsa. And normally we would tip less but she added the tip to the bill Unfortunately, what should have been an enjoyable dinner with friends turned into a frustrating experience because of the lack of communication and customer service.

This restaurant has been getting rave reviews by fellow Santa Barbarians, so we decided to make the drive down south to see what all the hype was about. Well I must say this experience was FAR superior than what I had expected! From the creatively crafted presentation of the beers, cocktails, and micheladas, to the surprise complimentary shrimp broth and home made sangria, we were treated like royalty! But aside from the royal treatment, the food was by far the most authentic Mexican seafood experience we've had in a long time. Yes, Santa Barbara has some great Mex food, but let's be honest it caters to a more unauthentic audience, so this was a great treat to feel valued and catered to as a Latino family read more

My husband and I would pass by and always noticed that there was a line of people waiting to be seated. We finally made it in side twice. The food is good and you get a good portion for you money. But the service is what brought us back. Everyone has a smile on their faces. They do not rush you to get your table. Everyone helps each other you just do not have one waitress/ waiters they are all you waitress/waiters. i had dinner for the first time last night on the recommendation of a friend who lives in Santa Paula and makes the drive to Oxnard to eat at El Chilito . I had such a great experience. The food was awesome ( probably the best ceviche I have ever had) Everyone was so nice and welcoming. Part of what made it a great experience was our waitress, Carolina. Food wise we all had botanas including aguachiles & some shrimp tostadas. The aguachiles were not too spicy & very favorable! I just had my lunch there, chicken taquitos. Food was ok, but what I didn't like was that they charged me $1 per extra guacamole and $1 per extra sour cream and didn't tell me they would charge it, besides, those extras were really really small!!! I'm surprise they didn't charge me the lemon I asked for too. Stopped by coming from Vegas tired just for a beer and ended up falling in love with the place! Their micheladas with shrimp on top tamarindo flavor are the most delicious drinks ever! The salsa is pretty good, and has a nice spice to it. The chips seemed typical tortilla chips. The fajita trio was served up warm and looked really fresh, the colors of everything were very appealing. Tasting the fajitas confirmed that they were light and fresh as they looked. There really wasn't much in the seasoning added, so it really was 'au natural' and simple. It worked well on this dish with the fresh vegetables. The tortillas were typical, nothing special to say about these. I did enjoy the beans and cheese, mashed up nicely and tasted great. Overall, a nice place to stop for Mexican food. Not a lot of spices added to the food here, but you can count on the freshness.

The burrito was good. The pork was tender and the chile verde had a good flavor. I wish the ratio of the pork to fillings was a bit more. The pork was cubed and I felt like I would reach a piece of meat every 3 bites. The salsa bar had several choices ranging from mild to hot. I got a red chile and a green salsa. I really like the red one which was a medium heat. The agua fresca was delicious and refreshing. There were a lot of locals eating here for lunch and you could tell by people saying hello to the staff or others to indict they were acquaintances.
