    Fajitas Rancheras

Updated review: service was great, chips and salsa (not pictured) very tasty. I ordered the green mussels and enchiladas with shredded beef. Everything was flavorful and food was served in a timely manner. Fajitas rancheras was good but the meat was a little dry but good Flavor overall.

Oscar the server said rheure getting updated menus soon. Since you're no longer allowed to pick 2 sides of your choice.

The restaurant has plenty of parking and seating available. The food is good but their salsa I feel is always a bit too strong on the cumin taste. Food tastes fresh and made to specification, other than you're not actually allowed to pick your sides for dishes without extra charges. You're meal comes with rice and refried beans only. Our server did mention they're getting new menus soon so it'll be nice to see that update. Portions are well served for the prices. Oscar was super attentive which we appreciated. They play regional Mexican music which I enjoy.

Chilaquiles were delicious. Paired it with a champagne mimosa. Both were really good. Chilaquiles were about $16ish dollars and mimosa was about $10ish. The environment here is great. It can get really busy and crowded.

Food has lost flavor quality and their prices have skyrocket. I will stop going to lalos because of their high prices. they went up 5 to 10 dollars on some plates. Drove all the way to woodland hills to oxnard just to have lalos. Now I'd rather go to my local street vendors for cheap food. If u raise food prices u will loose customers. Rather keep customers and keep prices low.

3/5 -- Some Hits, Some Misses Lalo's Mexican Restaurant has a few bright spots, but it's not quite the fireworks show I hoped for. First, the salsa deserves its own standing ovation -- 5/5, flavorful, fresh, and the kind that wakes up your taste buds in the best way. The chips, though... they're still on their character-development journey. A little stale, a little sad -- definitely room for glow-up. My mom ordered the shrimp cocktail, and that dish was the star of the table. 10/10, packed with shrimp, refreshing, and full of that classic coastal flavor she loves. We also tried the chicken and shrimp grilled plate, and it was good -- nothing wrong with it, just not the type of dish that makes you daydream about coming back. One thing that really threw us off: the temperature inside. The dining room was freezing, and the cold air made the food cool down way too fast. Cozy meals deserve, well... a cozy room. Pricing is also on the higher side, especially considering the plating and presentation, which felt a bit basic. Overall, it wasn't bad -- just not especially memorable or magical. Good salsa, great shrimp cocktail, but everything else felt a bit "meh."

I was really surprised to see the average rating for Lalo's here on Yelp, because my family had an amazing experience. We all thought the food was excellent and incredibly delicious. I probably had the best carne asada burrito I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. My wife's chile relleno was perfect, and even my son's chicken nuggets and fries were really tasty. We can't forget the guacamole appetizer--it was so good too. As for the service, they were fantastic: attentive and helpful with everything we needed. The ambiance was exactly what you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant. Will my family be coming back? Absolutely, yes!

    5.95 a taco ... asada

Part of the Oxnard Taco trail. I wanted to check them out as I have not been here in a few years. At 5.95 each taco, I don't think it was crazy expensive but there's tons of meat and it's a large taco. Not a mini street taco. It was a pick up , so I don't get to see the vibe but I do know it's a family owned fam friendly spot. I think burritos are 13 bucks and huge. Maybe I'll try that next. I usually like boiled beans not refried and no rice. I'm picky with my Mexican rice. Not sure if they'd accept modifications to their items. I'll see at a later date but my siblings love this place. Not my first taco place choice but I was full with one taco. I saved the other for lunch tomorrow. Happy I supported local though :)

    Cóctel de camarón ¡grande!

I always order the large shrimp cocktail no cucumber. Excellent! We went early evening on a Thursday, no waiting. I also Oder the homemade horchatas

Although food was decent the service was not. Very unfortunate since this was our first time eating here.

With that being said, I wanted to try it out. This was about 2 years ago prior to this visit I had today at this location. I jotted the note down after overhearing him talking about it while watching Netflix. When arriving, the environment outside is run down, old fashioned and in the scary graffiti, homeless surrounding. Parking is difficult to find, but we got lucky me and a colleague. The place is on a road side where parking it located a few streets between about 100 feet away. The surrounding had graffiti and loitering which was unpleasant and I would imagine it is worse at night, be careful here! Inside, a wonderful aroma excites you as you enter the restaurant. Booths all around and hard uncomfortable seats. A lot of people came here today on Sunday afternoon. Customer service was excellent, the guy at the front was very chill, polite and acted as if I was his homie, buddy or good friend. This is what I like. I ordered the birria of course, a meat drenched in a bunch of flavors for days to keep the meat juicy, tender and moist. The variations ordered were three tacos plate with birria, onions cilantro and a consome that was massive. This meal was $17. The other order was a four piece birria quesadilla that was absolutely delightful, succulent and had a delicious hunger craving aroma and flavor that any starving or hungry person would die for! This plate was $14. The tacos did come with beans and rice. Between the two dishes the birria quesadilla was my favorite however, the tacos tasted better. The tortilla of the tacos was fresh and made with love. The value was regular, something I expected compared to taco trucks and side vendors of Mexican food. This place is extraordinary. I felt guilty after consumption because it was fatty, juicy and everything you would want in a pleasurable meal, but it was heavy on the calories and filling. It was a messy meal, I added salsas, more seasoning from the condiments bar. There were so many different sauces and fillings like lemon etc. to balance the flavors of the birria. The console incuded was an added kick that I loved. Definitely one of the best if not the best birria I ever had and I highly recommend this place if you like Mexican cuisine at its finest. An absolute hidden treasure that you need to try! I'll come back after a month of consistent cardio and strength training to burn enough fat and make room for another appetite that soothes my brain cells.

Place isn't too big inside and it was packed when we went on a Saturday afternoon. I was for sure going to get the nachos and tacos but wanted more. Jesus was kind enough to recommend the grilled cheese and burrito. Both were great recs and delish! I mean I thought about the grilled cheese and burrito days after. The horchata was creamy and you could tell it was made in house. This place is delish, no notes.

I went there for lunch on a weekday, and I was pretty pleased with the service and food. The woman at the counter did speak English so that's always feels more comfortable, especially if you have any special requests. They have an open kitchen where they assemble orders, and the cook was rather friendly. I ordered a roasted pork burrito (I can't remember the name, but it's not carnitas). The meat was tender and tasted like it was slow cooked. The tortilla is not anything special, but all the fillings (rice, beans) were good. There is larger rice than beans ratio, but they give plenty of meat protein. I have been here several times in the past. I remember totally ratchet seating areas, where there were large holes in the floor. There seems to be some updates and the seating area is cleaned up (but I've only done takeout). They now also accept credit cards. For a low cost burrito, this is satisfying. Most burritos are ~ 10.

It was only a dollar on each (5 ) of our bills but they should have told us. Many Mexican restaurants provide them as a complimentary appetizer, so it would have been nice if the server had let us know beforehand. The biggest issue, however, was the service. One person in our party never received his meal. We had to ask about it, and we were simply told, "It's coming," with no explanation or apology. We ended up waiting so we could all eat together, so my soup was cold and I ended up not eating it and had to take it home. When the bill came, I asked what had happened. I was hoping the server would apologize or at least explain the delay. Instead, she didn't really answer my question. Only after I commented that they must have forgotten it, server said his meal had burned and the kitchen had to remake it. It would have been much better if she had communicated that to us from the beginning instead of leaving us wondering what was going on. Throughout the meal, the server rarely checked on our table to see if we needed anything or if everything was okay. Given the long delay and lack of communication, I also think it would have been a nice gesture to either comp the delayed meal or at least remove the charge for the chips and salsa. And normally we would tip less but she added the tip to the bill Unfortunately, what should have been an enjoyable dinner with friends turned into a frustrating experience because of the lack of communication and customer service.
