My friend had this on her list to try so I made a reservation just in case. It turned out to not be busy. But it was around 7:45pm ish. They have a few parking spots around the building but not many. We found a free public parking lot at the church next door and walked over. A few groups of people were dining in as a guy was singing jazz music. Great vibes! We ordered the paella right away since it was going to take about 30 min to prepare and ordered a few apps: patatas bravas and fried Spanish chistorra (cured sausage). I really liked the patatas bravas. It came out very hot! They added a nice savory sauce on top. They sausage and paella were decent. I've never had paella except one that my aunt likes to make but I thought it was lacking in flavor. I will give them points for presentation though and that they had to scrape it off the pan since it had some crispiness to it which you can choose to have or not. Service was good and fast. What a cozy spot for ladies night or a date night. I tried the white sangria, which was cute. And ordered the mussels and Bomba De Carne. Bomba De Carne was delicious and huge! A lot larger than I expected, inside the fried balls were veal and chorizo in potato. Aioli drizzle on top with sautéed vegetables in the side. The Mussels had red onion, celery, Mediterranean herbs, white wine, whip cream, and parsley. It had a slice of baguette bread on the side. We also had a salad - soo good. The paella was flavorful but needed more shellfish. 4 each shrimp, clams and mussels for a dish for 2-4 was insufficient. We ordered a pitcher of the red sangria and it was very well made. For food we ordered a variety of tapas - chicken, salad, steak, potatoes, olives... everything was incredibly delicious and cooked to perfection. I was seated right away and service was good. Menu is on the QR code. I asked for a hot tea but the server wasn't sure he had any. They came back with this lovely tea pot and selection of tea bags. It was very nice of them. Burrata salad - the burrata cheese was delicious but the salad was missing a dressing. There was pesto sauce on top of the cheese but that's it. Not very good at all. Yellowfin tuna steak - this was not good. Tuna was okay but the mashed potatoes had a weird flavor. It tasted like refrigerator smell. Yuck. Not fresh at all. We still love this place! This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. The service is always fantastic (Mario was our waiter last night). I love that they have updated the menu. It makes it so nice to not use a QR code. I really like to be able to put my phone away and be present when out to dinner. I love how intimate and cozy the atmosphere is and the food is always delicious. Last night we had the sampler, olives and a pitcher of red sangria. Looking around and observing it's small and cozy but large and spacious at the same time bc there is plenty of space around the tables. We started with a few pitchers of Sangaria and some Tapas. I'm just gonna say it .... I am a Sangria connoisseur and they have one of the best Red Sangrias I've ever tasted! SERIOUSLY. For Tapas we ordered the Patatas Bravas, Double Crispy Chicken, Zucchini sticks with Blue Cheese, Spanish Serrano Ham Croquettes (served with fries) and Beef & Chorizo Empanadas. Everything was phenomenal (there were 6 of us & almost everything came with 3 so we were able to cut everything in half and everyone got to try a bite.) For dinner most of us got the Cheese Ravioli with Gorgonzola Sauce (I added the garlic shrimp) and it was sooo good. Like I wish I had some right now good lol two people got the Lasagna Bolognese (which I got to try! I also added some of my Gorgonzola sauce to it and it was a match made in heaven. We had a lovely evening this past Saturday with friends at this gem of a bistro! The atmosphere is charming. The front room houses a nice bar, and the back is a surprisingly roomy dining area with an eclectic mix of tables. Lights are low and it is not too noisy. We started with a bottle of the house red, which was delicious... dry enough for the wine connoisseur but still smooth enough for me. We then ordered food in twos, stopping to share and savor before ordering more. I didn't get pics of everything but trust me, it was all delicious. I'll just mention my favorites. If you think you don't like olives, order the starter to see what they are supposed to taste like. The spicy potatoes are crisp and creamy. The crepe was a delicious blend of meats and cheese that was unexpectedly delectable. And the beignets we ordered to finish the meal, with ice cream and candied pecans, left us on the perfect sweet note. The staff is attentive and quick, answering questions and bringing smiles. Excellent paella and margaritas. The burrata salad is quite nice. We have been numerous times under past and current ownership; there is no discernible difference in taste and quality. I would strongly recommend. I read one review which did not prefer the paella. We have had the paella about a dozen times and it has been consistently excellent. The food is good. But it's still not worth it. The noise level was so loud (no live music) that our table could not even attempt to speak to each other. The waiter could barely take our orders. The server spilled grease on my hand and brand new linen pants when serving a crepe (the stain isn't coming out - I know accidents happen but maybe an "I'm sorry"). I have been craving paella. I checked Yelp and Barcelona Bistro popped up and it seemed awesome. The interior of the restaurant is quaint. This is actually the second time I came here because the first night I came to town, the restaurant was closing early. I decided to go back the next day. The waitress was friendly. I ordered the empanadas and it was odd they had toasted peanuts on top. The dipping sauce tasted odd. The paella was overcooked and tasteless. Met a gal pal here for some appetizers and drinks. We considered each ordering an entree instead but as neither had dined here before, decided to just sample and share several items. We ordered the patatas bravas (?)which came out hot, crispy on the outside, and soft in the inside with a smoked paprika cream sauce. Flavor explosion! We enjoyed our fruity rum drink while catching up and sampling great appetizers here. The salads and entrees we saw being brought out all looked amazing too! Definitely going to return to try the salmon dish and one of the salads! We ended our catch up time with the delicious churros with chocolate sauce. 3 of them was just enough for us though we definitely could've also each ordered our own happily too! Our waitress was so sweet, very attentive, and the others who brought our appetizers out were great too. We noted that the parking situation is a bit odd, you drive down an inclined small parking area with just a few parking spots in back. Noted one handicap parking spot in front. I'm guessing business is heavily from Jeffersontown locals in walking distance. The restaurant didn't appear to have air conditioning on as the dining area was pretty warm but we were fine with it. Overall a very unique dining spot, nice menu variety, fast and friendly service, and a great first dining experience here. Note that the Yelp menu that pops up while writing a review is missing most of the actual items on the menu and has many items we didn't see on the menu. We've been trying to eat at Barcelona for a very long time, but every time we decided to try it...well, in order to try it you need to be able to get to it. After finally driving through the 3rd Level Difficulty parking lot we managed to find a parking space. For all the waiting and anticipation, we found it amazingly average and, to be honest, slightly disappointing. Ok, first thing's first. That parking lot. It's small. It's awkward. It's not easy to navigate. Once seated it took a few minutes for our server to greet us. She never told us her name. When we asked for menus she pointed to a QR code. QR codes for menus were great during the Lockdown and nobody wanted to touch anything. We're past that now. No One wants to scroll on their phone to look at a menu any more, especially dining in a restaurant for the first time. I want to be able to see the entire menu, not about 14 lines of text at a time. When asked what we wanted to drink we asked for iced tea. They don't have iced tea. They have cold water in very nice bottles (a plus), but...no iced tea? Not having been to Barcelona before we asked our server (whom, you may recall, did not provide us her name) what was good. Of course, she answered "everything", but didn't really put across what made the restaurant great. I settled for the crepe and my wife got the cheese ravioli. Nothing else looked remotely appetizing to me (then again, I was viewing the menu on my phone with pictures about as large as a my thumbnail). We had the fried zucchini sticks for an appetizer. The appetizer was server VERY hot and they were very good. The bleu cheese dip that came with it was a bit watery for our taste. Our entrees followed a few minutes later. Temperature-wise, the food was hot. I mean H.O.T. After my food cooled down I could start to enjoy it. Being 100% honest, it was....average. While the menu said it was broiled chicken, pork and beef over a tomato sauce, it was largely flavorless. No flavor came though. No defining characteristic. I expected something awesome. I got mediocre. This restaurant is very nicely furnished. There's not an abundance of décor, but what is there is subtle and well executed. The open rafter ceiling gives it a homey feel and, I don't recall if there was background music playing or not. I was hoping to be WOWed by our first visit to Barcelona. That didn't happen. Quaint Spanish restaurant in the heart of Jeffersontown. Their website says they don't take reservations, first come first served. We arrived @7PM on a Friday. A 6-top arrived just before us and the hostess asked if they had called ahead. Regardless, they were seated. We were seated too. Right after that, people kept coming in and soon the place was packed. I have to say they handled the rush fairly well, but we had to wait just a little bit for service. We were glad we had looked up the menu online first, so we were ready to order food & drinks all in the first shot with our server. We wanted to get our food order in before the kitchen got too bogged down with all of orders coming their way. There's not much of a wine selection. We ordered a bottle of the only red Cabernet on the menu. We might have tried the sangria instead. They offer sangria by the glass or pitcher - white or red. Ordering food was a little challenging. The menu online is exactly what's used at the tables - use your smart phone to scan their QR code for the menu. The menu doesn't go into much detail for many of the dishes. We ordered burrata salads ($8 and delicious!), the beef & chorizo empanadas (meh for $14.90 - you get 3, basically $5 each) and the Garlic Shrimps ($16 - arrived boiling in a butter & garlic ceramic dish). Didn't really resemble the dish pictured on the menu. Tasted okay on the fresh bread, but was expecting more seasoning and spicy flavor. The burrata salads were the stand out of the meal and very satisfying for $8 each. Would we go again, sure. It's a nice place to try especially when you decide to go out and don't have reservations lined up somewhere. There are some other things on the menu to try. There's a nice bar with stools, so if you do have to wait for a table, it's accommodating, but it is a small place. Some people were just eating at the bar as well. The restrooms were clean, which is always appreciated. Bring a wrap for the dining room though because the air conditioning was blasting during our meal. We shifted our table slightly to get out from a direct vent. The people next to us put jackets on as well. Better too chilly than hot, but just be prepared. read more

Really nice place. Nicely decorated and lit. I think there was only one server but it wasn't "busy" but a good smattering of tables and service was pleasant but slow. Food is delicious and beautifully presented and a runner from the kitchen makes sure it comes to the table when it's HOT! We enjoyed the zucchini sticks to start. I had a nice glass of Bodegas Breca (really smooth moderate to full bodied red wine) Big Pour, too! The food that came out looked great! At our table I saw the beef and chorizo empanadas, the chicken empanadas, mushroom soup and pear salads, red Pepper hummus, and I had the crepe stuffed with broiled meats and it had amazing mushrooms on the side. The crepe was hot and tasted great! Would love to come Back and try something different! Parking is terrible here though! Like mayyyybbbeeeee 12 spaces!?!?! And it a VERY bumpy awkward road to move about their lot. I believe there is a back parking lot behind the building next to them for extra parking but please verify before going.
