Another excellent meal! Oaxacan totopos are excellent with guacamole, order extras. Mostly à la carte so not cheap but worth it. We both had chicken (whole leg) molé, the sweet and the hot. So good! Just wish they had a good vegetable dish or salad to balance out meal. Had a very good margarita too. The decor could use some greenery to brighten up the sparse but clean interior. 110% Homemade, as in from scratch. Delicious and perfect portions. Super friendly staff. They pour a fabulous fresh margarita even if a bit expensive, worth it! Unassuming little place tucked into a small shopping plaza. Looks to be family-run, and the food is absolutely authentic and prepared with a lot of care. Don't expect tex-mex, this is real food with real flavor. We had enchiladas, tamales, and a veggie taco. They have horchata in addition to an assortment of fruit waters. My husband is exceptionally well-traveled and is extra fond of Mexico and its many cuisines. He confirmed that this *delicious* food was also authentic in the best way. We started with their guacamole, which was an ample, extra-tasty portion with house-made chips. I moved on to their (spicy) molé chicken. The heat level was just right--for me, and I'm from Oklahoma, where spicy food reigns. Again, husband said it was authentic, and that was true of his enchiladas with a smoky, spicy red sauce. The interior is modest and the music was fun (mariachi--a welcome respite from Christmas tunes) and the proprietors are genial. It merits a return trip and we plan to make it. Finally! Real Mexican food in Vermont! This is southern Mexican food so it may be a little different for you, but it's authentic and delicious. It was different and not everyone knew what everything was on the menu but everything we tasted was delicious. The green enchiladas appeared to be red and my cheese enchiladas appeared to be chicken, but they were indeed made with green chilies and my cheese was just extra stringy it looked like shredded chicken. Service was very kind. The place is plain with absolutely no decor or pretension. I'm sorry, but this place blows Casa Grande/Real away. Roommate said it was good so I was curious about the menu and I found it and I'm sharing a picture of the menu. My roommate was very ecstatic he just wish they had had sour cream. Not your regular Mexican restaurant. Food was bland, salsa had huge chunks in it and the tortillas were all an unpleasant grey color. The proportions were small and there was a long wait for the place not being too busy. The restaurant took forever to open and the floor was still unfinished and there was no decoration to be seen. The food is bland, overpriced, and for some reason extremely small proportionally. Had the chicken tamale which was okay but $8 when authentically $3. Then got a chicken quesadilla for another $8 that was literally the size of 2 dorito's stuck together. I'm so sorry but this isn't good authentic Mexican food, it's mediocre at best, and only because it's in vermont. Best meal I've had in a very long time . It an Anthony Bourdain type experience. A hole in the wall where the Oaxaca based cuisine is the star. If you're looking for a Tex Mex melted cheese and nachos experience there are plenty of other places. I ordered Tapas style three smaller apps . Chicken Taco, memolitas, and El Comal Quesadilla, with Prime rib, each with a unique identity . No favorite though don't miss the Memolitas . The food was delicious. The chicken enchiladas had shredded white meat chicken, which was tender. Comes with 3 enchiladas, black beans, and slices of avocado and onion. The guacamole was fresh and a generous portion. The agua de sandia was a refreshing homemade watermelon drink (non-alcoholic). Will definitely come back. Outstanding food in all respects - well spiced, well prepared and excellent quality ingredients. I usually skip beef dishes in Mexican restaurants having encounter mostly tough, dry and/or tasteless beef. Theirs is moist, tender and flavorfull. This is the real (as in "authentic") deal, served in a friendly, invitingly non-pretentious, non-glitzy place. I had the spicier of the two Oaxacaan-style moles, and the rest of the party dove into tacos, enchiladas and other fare. All was wonderful, well beyond the standard fare even among places that advertise otherwise . Plus they now have an alcohol license and offer over a dozen local and Mexican beers and ciders. The food is excellent -- both in presentation & flavor -- the mole entrees and guacamole were excellent). Last time there, we were accidentally served and accidentally accepted) two extra dishes (we mistook them for appetizers we had ordered) and so ended up eating two extra dishes - tasty, but a bit too much for us. We did pay for them, because, after all, we ate the extra dishes (though we were too full to eat one of the appetizers we had ordered). I left a comment in response to an email asking for feedback on their service. I did not expect a reply, nor did I expect that they would refund us for the amount charged for the two extra dishes. But they did. So I have to say that both the food and service were exceptional, more fitting to a 5-star restaurant, than a casual-style restaurant. We will definitely go there again. read more
