NEVER been one to leave a review ever for anywhere I've been. We have been coming to this market for over 5 years. Today we went and asked for 3.5 pounds of meat. When we asked for extra juice (like we do at every meat market) they weighed the meat after adding the juice. We were charged almost $60 for 6 pieces of meat. They charged us the weight of the juice which is absolutely ridiculous considering we ask for the same thing everywhere and had here as well and never had this problem before. I am recovering from surgery and sent a family member to buy me asada meat for my girls to cook for dinner. I didn't tell them where to buy I just asked to bring me about 3 pounds which they did. I saw the plate of cooked meat in my kitchen and got a slice. This is the best carne asada meat I have ever had, no lie!! I didn't know it was from El Cortez, they mentioned it when I asked where they bought it. You gained a new customer in me because I will be buying my meats from here from now on. It is delicious, the seasonings and marinade is perfectly balanced. The citrus taste was spot on and there wasn't a lot of onions, jalapeños and cilantro all over the meat which to me takes away from the flavor and quality. Just plain good marinated asada. They have good service and the place gets packed but the guys work fast and get you out quickly. I grill year round and thanks to El Cortez my guests and I are always satisfied. I'm going to start off by stating that the only reason I drove all the way to Downey to try this Carniceria was because of the Gram. That's where the problem lies.. all of these eateries or carnicerias that live on the gram are just overhyped and overpriced establishments. $15.99 lb for what amounts to ranchera is crazy. I bought 3lbs and the meat tasted like basic flap. Nothing crazy just basic. If I went over to Vallarta o can sometimes buy the meat for $7.99 and tastes exactly the same. Again, the gram has served as a breeding ground for businesses to price gouge because of the social exposures on the Gram. Nothing bad to say but I will pass on places like these and stick with cheaper alternatives. read more

Hands down the best carne ranchera in this area! If you are skeptical of trying the meat catch them during one of there meat special months, but they are well worth the usual $9.95 per lb. The meat is marinated perfectly, words don't do it justice. The chicken also has great flavor and at a mere $3.00 per lb is easily a must have if you stop by. My only recommendation is to beat the line and possibly buy the meat a day prior and leave it in the refrigerator to marinate longer. Great quality meat and even better customer service. read more
