I'd never been there before, so this review is all about first impressions. As we approached, the sign caught my attention: "Under New Ownership." Outside, an employee sat scrolling on his phone. It was a quiet Sunday around 3 PM, and we were the only patrons in sight. Checking Yelp beforehand had been a bit of a letdown, as their menu featured items they no longer offer. No links were available either. We ordered half a pound of pulled pork, half a pound of brisket, and four pieces of cornbread--all priced reasonably. Their tap selection turned out to be decent. The Cali Squeeze Blood Orange was a standout, and they also seemed to carry Firestone Walker products, including 805. The staff were friendly and responsive, which was refreshing. While the brisket had cooled by the time we got home, it was still tender and flavorful--just like the pulled pork. The real surprise? The chimichurri that accompanied the brisket--an unexpected and delightful touch. Overall, I'd rate the experience as average. While it's clear they've got potential, a bit more effort could turn Wholly Smokes into a go-to spot. Leaning in on those small details would really elevate the experience.

Came across LA Brisket on social media and decided to try it since it's about 20+ minutes from me…read more I got the brisket bowl, about eight thin slices of brisket, slaw, two scoops of rice, and a green sauce. The rice tasted like Filipino garlic rice, which was a nice touch. Overall, really good. The brisket was tender, flavorful, and didn't need extra sauce, which I always look for in good BBQ. Portion was solid for around $15-$16+. Customer service was great, everyone was friendly and welcoming. It's a bit of a hole-in-the-wall in a plaza, but there's plenty of parking. Inside is dim but clean, and the wooden seating fits the BBQ vibe. I'd definitely come back.

My 13 year old grand daughter and I had lunch there and neither one of us liked our food. I don't think I ever tasted brisket I didn't like.... Until now! 6 hours later I keep burping up smoke. Like I drank a bottle of liquid smoke. My grand daughter had the brisket bowl and she said the rice had no flavor at all but she ate the brisket and she said it was fine. The funny thing is that her brisket wasn't as smoky as mine. It was pretty dry though. I had the sandwich,,, I think it was the 405. Anyway I took most of the meat out because it was very dry and very very smoky. The dressing and greens were good. The brisket was All smoke no flavor, no juicy, no wanting to eat the full sandwich. I also ordered sweet potato fries and they were good but the portion was very small for the price. There was no one in there but one other guy taking photos with a ring light and making it look better than it tasted. All smoke and mirrors if you ask me. The service was good but then again, no one else was there. They could have given us more than one napkin though.
