Went on a Sunday afternoon at 2 pm and it was packed (not hard to do in this tiny space). And I quickly found out why: their sandwiches flat-out rocked. The Cuban was wonderful - crisp and melty and tangy. The star of the show, however, was the steak sandwich. One of the better sammy's around, period. Nicely seasoned chopped steak, lettuce, tomatoes, mayo, cheese, shoestring fries all piled high on the aforementioned crisp bread. Cortadito was awesome! The place is soooo clean. The kitchen looked like an operating room it is so clean. I only had a coffee after my morning run, but I will be going back to try out the menu. So glad they are here, and I wish they would be open late for salsa club! read more

This place is awesome. They offer tasty Cuban sandwiches in an unassuming little building on the east side of Pulaski just south of Wrightwood. The food is excellent and the staff is friendly and courteous. After my 3rd visit they were greeting me like a regular customer. About the only possible complaint I can level at them is their hours! A lot of times they don't seem to stay open in the afternoon between lunch and dinner, and then they close just after the dinner rush, which can make it harder to find the time to enjoy their awesome sandwiches. read more

Did not like...1st time and last. The only authentic thing about it is the overhead music. Ordered cuban steak sandwich and it was like eating a cuban Italian beef. Neat was super shredded...same meat used for beefs...coffee just there hubby had the cuban sandwich overloaded with cheese. You can not miss this tiny shack of a store front with customers constantly in and out the door. The only reason I write this review is because the *Eatery that my group and I had in mind was closed. Considering our starting point we wanted to make the most of our gathering. When people ask me if I want Cuban, I do not falter. I am all over Cuban food, but the place is not suited for groups to sit and while away the time talking. This place is a order your food, watch some movies that play up on the wall mounted TV, and carry out the goods. El Cubanito perfects the Cuban sandwich and offers 3 other sandwiches, and breakfast options. Cafe con leche @ $2. We came, we ordered (pretty much one of each sandwich), and we drank the cafe con leche. We even purchased movies with titles that list on the 'Soon to be on DVD/Bluray' ads for a steal. The steak, chicken, Cuban and timba sandwich are all very yummy and oh so good. I would make my way to a place like this often if not for the mileage that keeps us apart. But the sweet goodness of the Guava jam, and the savory tastings of Cuban are hard to stay away from. If you are around the area, order for take out. You wait for each sandwich to be made, but you get to feel of the vibe of the hard working customers who come and eat good food at a not so expensive price. Gave it two chances. My Girl Loves it. I think it's overrated! I'd Rather go 3 blocks west and have a Steak Sandwhich from Señor Pan. Now thats real Cuban. Anyway, At Cubanito. the steak / egg sambwhich is the best sambwhich i have ever had in my life!!! and alot of beef and very affordable. This is a must see place. and the people are very nice and make you feel at home and welcome, and it is cheap. the only negative is getting there with the traffic can be a pain in the butt. however better than any other cuban place in chicago. read more

It is shameful that I have not patronized El Cubanito after working nearby for 2 years. This is the best Cuban I have ever had as well are the empanadas. I had the beef and guava empanadas. I thought the price was fair and the sandwich size was good. I would of given this 4 stars, but the sandwich was very DIFFICULT to EAT. They cut the meat in Rat size tiny pieces that made the sandwich fall apart when holding it. Excellent! I had the regular Cuban sandwich and it was delicious. The young woman at the counter was friendly and engaging. She asked if I had been in the restaurant before and I told her I hadn't. She then told me that I get a free empanada on my first visit! What a way to earn loyalty. The empanada was delicious of course, flaky on the outside and juicy and flavorful inside (I had the pork). The sandwich was tasty, with a nice blend of meats and condiments. You can't beat the prices either. read more

The sandwich is out of control. I ordered the Steak Sandwich and a Latte. First time to Cuban food and it was worth the walk. Thinly sliced steak was properly seasoned, though I found it bit overcooked. Again this is how they do in Cuba, fully cook the steak. The bread was toasted and crusty on the outside and chewy inside, just the way I like any sandwich breads. Warning, the sandwich is messy to eat, but the deliciousness trumps. I was stopped at the traffic light heading north on pulaski just south of wrightwood, and that's when it happened. These amazing aromas filled my car. I looked around frantically and saw this little cuban sandwich shack, pulled over and stepped in. I asked "what's fresh?" and they recommended the steak. Another customer inside was going off about how he takes orders from people on the west side of illinois and brings back boxes full of this stuff. He said people drive in from Wisconsin. I tried the steak and was very happy that my car windows were open that day. I've been back several times and finally tried the cuban sandwich which is also awesome. Even better than the steak if you don't want something quite as heavy. The staff is always super friendly. SO much flavor packed into such a small little shack. This place rules! read more
