Great food, especially the empanadas! However, I just found out that their coffee is "instant coffee". No wonder I've never seen them make the coffee, they have no expresso machines and no where to brew coffee. So disappointed. read more

El Cubanito...Everybody raves about the steak sandwich but I wasn't too impressed with that it was good but probably not the best I've had, but the other thing I tried was the Shrimp Empanadas and those were fire. I mean there are only I few places in the world where I've been and said that the taste of that item is so good that I can't wait to come back. I mean it wasn't just shrimp and cheese it was also seasoned to perfection. The only problem was debating on how many to get. They come up as three dollars after tax so three cost me nine dollars. Don't get me wrong three definitely filled me up but I still wanted more. Yummy. read more

Listen Chicago, this is the best Cuban sandwich you'll have in the city. The Cubanito Steak is something that I dream about every night before bed. Perfectly seasoned steak, crisp shoe string fries, lettuce tomato and a garlic aioli come together on freshly toasted bread. You cannot beat the customer service, you cannot beat the prices. The crew here is kind and attentive, and their food is genuinely beyond comprehension (it's seriously that good). Would highly recommend! Yum! Great hole in the wall. Guava paste and cheese sub with hot sauce is my jam. My wife likes the steak sandwich ( a giant sub like with shoestring potatoes on top). My daughter gets the ham & cheese. All are great. The empanadas are excellent. Ham/cheese and guava/cheese are our favorites. They carry bunch of Sodas that are hard to find. Coco Rico and the Yerba mate are good. Service is fast but long lines for lunch, call ahead. Not much room to eat in, just two counter seats. After you go once you'll get a flavor in your head that only El Cubanito can satisfy. read more

El Cubanito caused me to develop a serious cafe con leche problem. It is perfect-- steaming hot (patience, you can't rush into this, you will regret it), sugary (they will go light if you ask), and substantial. My favorite accompaniment is the timba sandwich. If you are feeling adventurous, the guava paste and Swiss is a heavenly combo. My only complaints? The pothole-ridden parking lot and the ridiculous mural on the outside. Seriously-- what does a woman with a curvaceous bottom have to do with good, Cuban food? It was bad enough in the first place, there was NO need to update it. You, unlike Hooters, do not need to exploit women to sell your tasty morsels. read more

Best steak sandwich I've had thus far! The meat was seasoned perfectly and was so tender. I love it! Their fries taste like McDonald's fries and customer service is mediocre, it was my first time there so I was asking a lot of questions. The gentlemen didn't seem too helpful. My sister in law and her husband would talk about how great this place was all the time so my husband and I had to try it especially the coffee. It's a small place if you blink you can miss it. It's nice inside comfy chairs big tables. They serve Cuban sandwiches, empanadas, coffees, and milkshakes. We ordered different kinds of empanadas to share and I ordered a Cuban sandwich with a Hawaiian coffee which is coffee with coconut milk in it. My sis in law ordered a sandwich and coffee with milk, her husband ordered a sandwich and some type of soda, my husband ordered a sandwich and a Cuban coffee. Everything was EXCELLENT. They serve another type of sandwich I can't think of the name it was really good. The coffee is so hot like it could burn your esophagus hot, it's great I love love love hot coffee my coffee stayed hot for hours. The Cuban coffee was great, nice and strong. We live on the far Southside of Chicago so this is a drive but totally worth it, I literally dream of this coffee shop and their delicious coffee.. read more

Background El Cubanito is located in a Hispanic neighborhood in Chicago on Pulaski and Wrightwood. This restaurant is family owned and you always see the same faces. It is the only restaurant on that block surrounded by factory buildings and empty lots. Inside of this restaurant you won't find much but just a kitchen and 4 seats to eat. The cashier is always the same young man and there is an older man inside that sells movies. The outside is covered with a provocative woman. There are rumors that the family is going to open another one; hopefully that one is a little bigger. Food/Menu El Cubanito's menu is rather simple. The menu consists of about 10 meals and Cuban style coffee. The majority of the menu is different types of sandwiches but their empanadas and steak sandwiches are the top selling food items there. The empanadas are stuffed with deliciously seasoned meat and cheesy crust. They toast the best French bread and stuff steak, cheese, onions, and mini potato string chips in-between. Anything this good has to be expensive right?!?!? Nope! The price is just right. Décor This is not a fancy place to take someone on a romantic date, nor is it somewhere you go to sit down. It is a really small hut with a provocative girl spray painted all over the outside. Above the girl "Cubanito" is spray painted in bubble letters with the Cuban flag inside. This is spray painted by a Tagger that is allowed to come and put his art on their restaurant for free, which is pretty cool. Service El Cubanito gives you the opinion of ordering on the spot or calling in advance for a pick-up. They can be rather packed sometimes with people forming a line outside and I for one am impatient so I recommend calling and ordering before to avoid a long wait. On the bright side whether you call or order on the spot the food is always neatly prepared and hot. In addition to the hot food the owner makes you feel welcomed and holds pleasant conversations. The bottom line If you're looking for a real Cuban steak sandwich on-the-go then this is the place to be. It's not a dine-in restaurant but the food is delicious. After taking everything about El Cubanito into consideration El Cubanito is 3.5 out of 5 because the restaurant is so small but the food is just so good! read more

Been driving by for a few months getting to lacrosse in Garfield Park, Made a mental note to stop in. Tried it a month ago and my little dude said it was the best steak sandwich he ever had. Today after a rain soaked game, he hops in the car and says "Cuban sandwich mom?" . Oh heck yes said I! Our sandwiches came with a free empanada today that was seriously the best I have ever had.
