I am probably being partial because this place is directly behind my house, but I love this place. Always perfect for a quick bite. My favorite sandwich is the tripleta. Its extremely messy, but delicious. Contains steak, chicken, and pork. The cheese empanadas are giant crab ragoons. The Cubans is great, fries are delicious. The Hawaiian coffee is outstanding, and other Cuban style coffees are a great change to the normal caffeinated beverages. read more

I'll make this review bite sized. There is nothing on the menu that misses. I get the Cafe con Leche whenever I can, best two bucks you can spend in the morning. Empanadas are amazing! The Tripleta satisfies the Meat tooth while the Guayaba y Queso satisfies the sweet tooth. Only negatives are the cramped ordering floor and they do run out of hot sauce once in a while. The food is decent, but the guy that took our order had a cold, garbage, jerk-like attitude. We ordered sandwiches and coffee and he gave us the large coffees w/o asking what size we wanted, that's a dirtbag move and he was a dirtbag for doing it. If it wasn't for the guy that took our order with that garbage attitude, I would've rated this place higher, at a 4 or even 5. By the way, my wife also felt the exact same way about the guy. This place is just flat out AMAZING! From their steak and eggs to the empanadas to the coffee.. everything is perfect and one sandwich can defiantly be shared between two people if you aren't that hungry. I always get the steak and eggs with a Hawaiian coffee (has coconut milk) and it is the perfect way to start out your day. All their coffee is so creamy and nothing like what you could get anywhere else. Now the empanadas... they're only $2! There are ones with meat, without meat, and even sweet dessert type ones! They are all amazing, but my favorite are the shrimp empanadas. I would give this place more than 5 stars if I could. The food is ALWAYS amazing and the employees always welcome you and are kind, personal, and patient. I couldn't even say a way that anything could be changed. Best Sandwich I've had for some time now! I got the steak sandwich about a week ago, it was huge and tasty! The meat was just slightly over cooked for me... but I came in the middle of the afternoon, so perhaps I just got them between batches. However the flavor in it tasted great and I loved every bite. And whoever the lady behind the counter is, has a lovely personality... as I was waiting for my sandwich, another guy turned to me and said, "she makes you feel at home, eh?" And I would have to agree! It's just a small shack, but everyone in there was happy to be there getting these marvelous sandwiches! Also... I was a little worried since I started dieting, but I decided to splurge on the sandwich... in eating it, I noticed it wasn't greasy at all, it was juicy enough, but not greasy, and the cheese was melty good, but not overwhelming! I was worried about the shoe string fries, but they weren't greasy either! Just yummy! I'm not sure if they used dressing of any sort, i didn't see any, but it was super flavorful and it didn't make me feel like i was being a glutton the way a lot of Chicago food does! What a gem. We went early on a Sunday. Or order was taken and brought to us fresh and hot. Ordered the Cubanito and steak empanadas. They were both excellent. The empanadas are really filling-8 ordered two , when I could've easily been full eating one. I just wished I had ordered cheese inside to balance the amount of meat. Before we left I grabbed a cafe con leche to go. I would drive 45 minutes every day to get one of these if I had the time. Everyone was really nice- especially the guy taking the orders. The cost of it was not all enticing for me. The other reviewers said that the steak sandwich price is $4.00 and that is not so. It cost $5.00 for a steak sandwich with that price you would expect it to be a whole lot bigger. But it turns out, that it is small sandwich and not at all filling. The steak sandwiches are good but the adding the small crispy shoelace fries to it made the sandwhich a bit too salty. not to mention a hella crunchy. This place was my number one spot when they were in the litle small place they always have customers they were always so nice and always smiling, and now that they have expanded they are still my favorite spot. Everyone here is always in a good mood they are very hard workers and I love being around the atmosphere. Love there sandwiches can almost eat them all day every day but then I would be with no money (joke). So when I read the other reviews I knew this place was going to be small, but I didn't know it would be no tables small! That doesn't matter! We grabbed our grub and chowed in the car, in our free parking around the corner. I love a place that only has a handful of items on the menu. Means they do it well. And this they do. I had the steak sandwich, which was really weird, as it had potato sticks on top. Weird but good. My husband had the cuban sandwich, it was piled high with meat and had just the right bread. We got some of the soup, which was a tomato type base with chicken and corn. I also got some of the empanadas. This was the standout to me. Large and tasty. The beef is good. Chicken and potato, I think, my husband had and he liked it. The owner so graciously showed us his project in the works-- a dining room directly next door! He is incredibly nice and the young lady who worked there as well. Rumor has it that this is the best cuban coffee- latte in town. They open at 6:30 or 7:00 am and the customers keep a-flowing in for the brew! read more
